Canadian cruisers!!

As I'm travelling with a friend and we both purchased OBC. Has anyone encountered any issues with making sure that each of our purchased OBC is on our account only (eg. not split)? I mentioned this when I purchased mine and the person said no problem, but I'm wondering if that is how it will be when I get on the ship? I plan and told my friend as well to double-check with guest services to make sure that each of our purchased OBC is on our accounts only. However I was wondering what others have experienced.

We have occasionally had the OBC split up wrong, but Guest Services fixed it for us.

From our cruise in April, we had no problems receiving our $500 US OBC, however they split it between my DW and I equally in our folios.

When we purchased our OBC in April, we asked that it be split. Each time we called, we specified the name it should go under and according to our email confirmation it was split evenly. When we got on board, ALL of the pre-purchased OBC was in my name! :D This was likely due to the fact that it was MY name on the credit card. I'm sure we could have gone to Guest Services to split it up but it was no big deal.. I just ended up paying for everything!:p

That's strange. They have always put it against mine, but DW charges go to my folio so at the end of the day it doesn't matter.

For our cruise last March it all appeared under my name for one cabin and DE's name in the other cabin and I don't think they asked me if I wanted it split. For our Allure cruise they asked me if I wanted it split between the 2 people in the cabin. Like you said "at the end of the day it doesn't matter"

I have always taken out email receipt of the OBC purchase, just in case of a moment like this.

Same here. Believe me I had every bit of correspondence printed and with me. Ship's staff basically said sorry we have no record and that really doesn't tell us anything. That's why I called for help before we sailed. A resolutions specialist had to contact the ship on our behalf to get it taken care of.

That being said, I don't think anyone else has reported any issues and I had called them in for 2 other cabins and they were fine so I think ours was a one off problem and it was rectified fairly quickly.

I just checked my cc and the $499 u.s. I purchased was debited to my cc as $499.40 cnd. the agent said there was a .40 cent service fee, which showed but it looks like I received the funds at par.

the agent wasn't very bright imo. she said she could not do $500 but she could do 2 X $250. I told her 499 was fine. then she mentioned the .40 fee. I asked her the total in Canadian and she gave me the $499.40. I repeated to her that I wanted $499 u.s. and she said yup, that's what she booked.

very odd indeed.

I bought some today at 10 percent. So the deal is still good in case anyone's wondering.

I just bought $500 at the super rate - no mention of having a $499 limit. Nice to have no bill at the end!

I honestly suspect if you call back and ask a different agent how much US obc you've purchased they'll tell you $454. I hope I'm wrong:D but the reason I say this is I called down 5 different times for us and our friends to do this and some of the agents don't understand the process at all. On one occasion I told the girl I wanted to buy $500 U.S. obc. She gave me a price of $500.50. I asked if she was sure that bought me $500 US. She said yes. I called back next day because having already done it previously I was all but positive she was wrong. I asked the next agent how much obc we had showing in US funds and he said $450, which as we know converts to $500.50. Maybe you got the same girl lol.

I just called and they told me I have $499.40 u.s. credit. so far it looks right but I guess the final word will come when I sail.

if the .40 was a service fee, as she said, I wonder why it shows as an obc.

I have not found the company very competent as yet.

Just called and purchased 2 OBCs of $499 US each and they cost $548.90 CDN each.

I can 't believe this amazing rate is still on with our dollar tanking more every day. It's awesome!:D

Just got the exact same deal! love it!

I'm sorry if this has been asked already, but if my cruise booking is being handled by a TA, do they have to call, or can I call to get OBC?

Thanks in advance!

You can do it yourself, I did a few days ago. Just call gifts and gear.

That's awesome then! Definitely a one off it seems. Not sure when you're cruising but come back and let us know if it does indeed work out that way.

With the Canadian dollar plunging a bit more this week, I was glad I found this thread about the current rate of 1.10 CND for one US dollar. I called C&A last night and bought $200 OBC for our next cruise in January ! Got an email confirming $220 billed

Just called. Same 10% Rate. Purchased $800 U.S. for $880 Can. They had to do 2 transactions at $440 each as the limit is $499.99. Called Gift & Gear at 1-800-722-5443.

Woo hoo! Called G&G at that number myself just now. USD$499 in OBC for only CAD$548.90. At today's exchange rate, that would have been CAD$644.88 from the bank!

I wish I could fund our whole trip at this exchange rate!

Has anyone cashed any of this out at the end of the cruise ? Just wondering if you do not put a credit card on file if they will give you US cash ?

You can get US cash on the last evening of the cruise, for any remaining refundable OBC.

We had a card on file and we were able to get US cash on the last day. I went down at 8am well before any lines formed. Any final charges, which was diner at Sabor, went onto my CC.

Like Bob said it was only refundable OBC.

There was also a recent post where someone had secured their account with a CDN credit card. The remaining balance was posted to their credit card in US$ and then the bank did the exchange at over $1.26.
