Buffet Etiquette

I was referring to unnocuped clean tables, but why would both people leave for ther buffet line at the same time. What about arriving in the buffet, finding a table for 4, leaving a book on it, and then going for the food. Do you really expect the table to be free when you come back

In my example there was a untouched plate of soup on the table plus a salad, napkin and appropriate cutlery apart from the soup spoon. Of course i would expect the chair to still be there when I arrived back 90 seconds after leaving. do you think THAT is reasonable.

I am sorry but I am not going to be bullied over this thread :mad::mad:

You would leave the table together so that you could eat together when you had got your food without it getting cold.

I have not seen anything on here that you could call bullying, only people who do not agree with your personal opinions on how we should use the buffet.

Room service for breakfast is the answer! Or the main dining room which is far more civilized. Mind you I am yet to experience a P&O buffet. I assume it will be run on a similar basis to the RCI ones.

This will be my second trip on Azura and to be honest we didn't have any issues on our last cruise. As I say be polite don't push and treat people as you would like to be treated. If it's very busy go for a walk and come back later.... It is your holiday after all.... "Simples"[emoji3]

I do agree. Well said.

I really don't get this thread --- if you find the buffet a nightmare then why not try out one of the other venues?

Have to add that we have never seen bad manners at a buffet on P&O or Celebrity -------- RCI on the IOS was another story! It was complete chaos!

I remember asking politely if there was a queue and if I was joining the right end of it and the comments I received (directly and those overheard) tested my patience (for want of a better term!)

The only time I ever use the "Snatch and Grab" is on boarding. Can't wait to reach Caribbean Tier to get lunch somewhere else. (One more cruise I think).

Not sure what you mean. You can use the MDR on any tier.

I agree. I've never had any issues and why people go and get themselves this wound up is beyond me.

People keep mentioning rules at the buffet but I've absolutely no idea what the rules are. I've got manners and I've found most people to be same but guessing that's not the same as these 'rules' that keep getting mentioned.

What making me laugh is everyone thinks their rules are the correct one's and what they are saying on their posts whilst trying to defend or justify their way is the correct way is just so laughable.

Go or don't go. Simple.

Not on the day you board! I always use the MDR or the Glass House or similar for lunch, and breakfast either Room Service or the MDR. But on boarding day there's only the Snatch and Grab unless you are Caribbean Tier or Suite or both.

Find a table leave your things go and choose your food , simples !!!

You'd think so wouldn't you? On Oceana we gave up on the buffet after a day or two. 1st time I kept a table whilst hubby got his food, then he came back and I went to get food. By the time I got back he had finished. 2nd day, we got fresh drinks, found a table where we left our jackets on the chairs, and both went to get food together. When we got back, there was another couple sitting leaning on our jackets, and they had moved our drinks to the edge of the table. We then had to wander round the crowded restaurant looking for another table. That was us done with the buffet. For the rest of the cruise we used MDR for all meals.

Far more civilised! AND they have tablecloths. :)

Yes we liked the fact that we were shown to a table in the buffet on Fred Olsen and the table-covers .... but nothing else!

The easy answer on P&O is stick to the MDR. We used to hate the buffet for all the reasons given here, so now we just don't use it. If you have a table for 2, you can be in and out fairly quickly.

Not sure which line, think it was HAL, back in the day there were waiters at the end of the buffet line who would take your tray and escort you to your table. Kind of like they used to escort you to your cabin.

They do that on Oceania - very civilised and far far better than Cunard - IMO of course! ;)

I have never had any problem with the buffets except on Azura, where they had a funny arrangement of you went in either end and came out through the middle. Problem was that nobody stuck to it, so it didn't work. Also, heavy handled knives dropping off every tray! LOL

Oh I remeber the falling knives. On Azura and Ventura you effectively have 4 buffet serving areas. Its hit and miss how busy the one you are in is.

Same on Ventura, people kept going in the 'entrance' ;) It was OK as long as they did not start going the 'other' way along the servery. Britannia had a good buffet layout with the use of partitions to divide it into smaller spaces. For early breakfasters i discovered Aurora had continential breakfast available on the Pennant bar terrace, hardly used and only lacking a tea urn :)

Jeez - have used the buffet on RCCL so many times without issue, first trip coming up on P&O and I'm now thinking of avoiding the buffet for breakfast if it's full of some of the passenger types who've revealed themselves on this thread. Can anyone tell me what the MDR arrangements for breakfast are on Ventura? Is there a semi-formal option like on RCCL eg wait for a table but then it's buffet?

Don't worry, I just don't recognise most of what is posted here. I've been on RCI many times and found P&O to be just the same.

Enjoy your cruise

Truth is the Brits just love to queue. You don't see it in other countries. I like the story about a bloke that joined a queue during the war. Asked the lady in front what they were queuing for. She said brassieres. "Oh that's fine, I'll smoke anything these days".
