using two credit cards to pay for cruise

My daughter and her husband are close to final payment and told their ta that they wanted to pay half with one card and half with the other but the ta said they couldn't do that.

Thought I'd ask here. I'm sure someone has tried to do this.

Can you? Or does the ta have to redo the booking and have two instead of one?

thanks

Sounds like a poor TA. We've used several cards over the course of paying off a cruise for all sorts of reasons - the last time was due to the card I had designated to pay it off with being compromised. So, next installment was on a different card. As we make payments along the way, its often on various cards, with final payment being a smaller amount, so it goes on one card. There shouldn't be any issue with paying a portion on one card and the balance on the other.... unless the TA is being inconvenienced in some way and doesn't want to do it... in which case, that would be time for a new TA! Good luck...

Just tell them to have the TA authorize XXX amount of $$ without paying it all off. Then wait a day or 2 and pay some more. Hopefully, there is enough time before final payment that they have time to do that.

Can't imagine the TA would refuse a partial payment, there is not rule that you have to pay it all off at one time.

And tell them for their next cruise to use a different TA.:D

Need a new TA. Just did the same thing last week. Made a final payment with part on my wife's cc and the rest on mine. Have done this a few times.

I pay with any card, whenever and for what amount I need to pay. Last year before final, I had to use 2 cards because I had cash rewards I wanted to redeem on one. It shouldn't be that hard. I suggest they stand up to their TA.

Did the TA say you couldn't split the bill or did she say that you couldn't use two specific cards? All the cards charge the TA for using their cards. Some have different rates they charge the TA. It's possible the TA just didn't want to charge a specific card.

I just talked to my dd and when she first talked to her ta (months ago) she thinks the issue was because they were using their AMEX-plat card and that gives certain dollar obc's and other perks from Princess for certain cabin categories. So, I'm wondering if the AMEX card is the reason and not because she is using two cards. I told she should ask to pay one with the AMEX and the other with their other card but now I am wondering if both have to pay with AMEX.

Anyone use AMEX and try to use another card?

She said she needs to start taking notes - I can't live without my notes!

thanks for any help with this.

The TA is not the merchant; Princess is the merchant. If the TA is the one charging the card, then that's an even more compelling reason to find a new TA.

DH and I each have credit cards that give us airline miles so we always divide the final payment based on how equal we are in our mileage accounts. Sometimes the payments are equal amounts, but most of the time they're not. Our ta has never had a problem with it, and our payments do show up as Princess charges.

You need a new ta.

Yes - if they are getting benefits on their cruise from AMEX Platinum card, then my guess is you have to pay for the cruise in its entirety with that card.

That is correct and one reason they may not take 2 cards.

We have purchased cruises using two credit cards for years..., ever since cruise lines started to accept credit cards, believe me the cruise company does not care... maybe the TA does not want to do so, becuase of credit card fees to a merchant????

A friend and I traveled together for years and always used two cards. You have a lazy TA and it's time to replace him/her.:) BTW, we always used two credit cards on the ship without problems.

I'm making fortnightly cash payments to pay off my cruise fare. When I had to change to an almost 7 months later cruise, I did reduce the payments but have been regularly paying a set amount towards my cruise fare. This is the 1st time I've dealt with Princess Cruises, so I want to establish I am a reliable passenger who pays regularly. Am going to do Gift Services using the original card I used for the original booking and International Travel Insurance. Even my TA didn't know that I needed International Travel Insurance for a Coastal Cruise between 2 Australian State Capitals-I showed her where I'd read the information from Princess Cruises myself. Prefer to use cash but fully understand I will need to use my Cruise Card, so gifting myself On Board, Casino, Photography, and Internet Credit to cover my On Board spending as far as I have costed, thanks to Cruise Critic's generous members who post much useful information which is a tremendous help to this newbie cruiser. I'm cruising in Australia so planned to allow an additional 20% over all costings to cover currency exchange and price fluctuations. fortnightly payments also establish a regular routine-every Payday, I make another deposit so the routine is maintained!

It's about an hour and 68 weeks to Embarkation Day. Waking up on Fridays, now means I'm a whole week closer to SAILING! :D

As pointed out above, the OP's daughter used a credit card that brought with it certain benefits for the cruise.

If the daughter wishes to give up those benefits, I am sure the TA will be willing to put some of the charges on a different credit card.

My husband and I travel with a friend of ours from time to time. We split the cruise bill 3 ways. She pays her part with a credit card and we pay our bill with another credit card. We've never had a problem and we make monthly payments until final payment. So I agree, find another TA
