Just returned to Port Everglades on Holland America. Saw the Global Entry sign and asked if that was ok, went to a special line with nobody in it and was thru customs in seconds. Even though I had my GE card, nobody ever looked at it!

This was my experience too in Port Everglades after disembarking from Oasis. I was escorted to the Pinnacle/Suite queue after flashing the GE card.

Were you on a suite? We have GE cards but will sail on a suite in January. Just wondering if is the same line.

To the OP, thanks for the info.

Global Entry accessibility has only been reported at Pt. Everglades, the FLL cruise port (so far) :)

There is one mention on their website FAQ about "sea ports" but when you try to find where the kiosks are located, only airports come up. Worth continuing to check, though.

Yes it is. I think it will be great if they continue to expand the program in cruise ports!:)

I'm sailing on Monday out of Port Everglades and plan to use my Nexus card which is also GE. I'm interested to see how this works at a cruise port...

Are you going to try to do a live report? If wifi sucks like it did for us, get a refund ether from GS or the concereige if you are in a suite.

I am definitely doing a LIVE report. The wifi better not suck or I will be really mad !

On a more serious note, the answer is yes, and I will post as often as I can! Hope you will follow along :)

Just got my passport renewal (took 21 days) and the flyer enclosed doesn't show GE or Nexus or Sentri for cruise ports. They all only state, "airports and land borders."

Knowing that CC members are on the cutting edge of travel I am inclined to believe cruise ports are getting rolled out.

I will have to consider that when my TSA Pre-Check is up for renewal. I would have done GE when I applied if I had known seaports were getting included.

Just got off the Escape in Port Miami. They do not have a GE card line there. The officer I spoke with at length, said they are looking into it.

I came into Terminal B and was happy to see the luggage pick up was warehouse style like Port Everglades. All the bags sitting out already. My few times off the Majesty and Celebrity, we had the old airport belt system. The officer also told me they prefer the warehouse dump system better as well, so hopefully that too may change in all terminals in Port Miami.

Since I fly in/out of MIA 3 or 4 times a month, I can say regarding TSA precheck, there are three security lines, TSA pre-check; the priority for first/business and the regular line. American also has a special flagship checkin with a lead into TSA priority line for First class on their international flights. The first class/business priority lines only jumps the regular line and you still need to remove your computers, belts, shoes, jackets and liquids into the bins. Only the TSA precheck allows you to leave all of that on or in your carryon. They will sometimes, allow regular line pax into those lines. Not sure why, maybe to temp them to join their program.

Last week I also flew out of Terminal E and was running late, so asked the driver to drop me at Terminal E, even though I knew there isn't a TSA Precheck there. I was surprized there was no line at all, and b/c they saw TSA precheck on my boarding card, they even gave me a green laminated card that allowed me to keep my shoes and jacket on.

Thanks for the info. From what I learned from you is every terminal in FLL should have a Global Entry line as the port is CBP.

:)

When you say FLL, you do mean we are talking cruise ports as in Port Everglades.

Because the two times I flew out of Fort Lauderdale Airport EARLY, while the security line near my gate was open,, the TSA pre check wasn't open "yet" and I had to walk over to the next terminal (which was all attached planeside) to use the TSA precheck. Many of my flights are very early and I've noticed this in many airports. Not all TSA prechecks open early. ugh.

Global Entry was not available at the Port of Galveston when disembarking Liberty on Friday.

As there was no line when I left the ship I was able to talk with agents about this and they stated that they had not heard anything about this and did not expect it to be implemented in the near future at Galveston.

On a side note, I have found that GE only really works to 'speed' up customs clearance where the automated kiosks are present. The separate lines with a card system could even create confusion.

While Galveston was a breeze on Friday, I have had some horrible disembarkations at Port Everglades and I sure hope they do get kiosks in the future.

Sorry, I should have said PE not FLL. I sometimes cheat and uses them as though they are the same. However, in this thread it does not work.;)

We fly business and always Delta out of T2 at FLL. Whenever we fly out of FLL the TSA precheck is open, but that is around 9:30am at the security check. We also use the suite departure line at the port, with luggage valet. We are really starting to considering doing the 10:30 am flight and forgo luggage valet. Espically as we have been sitting at our gate prior to them calling the earlier flight to Detroit. We could be home by 4pm if not a bit earlier compared to 5pm or later.

I have not read all the posts, so forgive me but I will tell you what happened with us at Port Everglades two days ago. We disembarked at Pier 18, and saw the signs in the terminal stating "Global Entry" and the arrow pointing "this way".... when we asked an employee, his face scrunched up and he had no idea what we were talking about. As the line for C&I was not that long and they had a lot of agents on, we couldn't really do anything but wait. When we got up to the agent, my husband showed our Nexus cards asked about it; the agent said there are no kiosks/machines at this time but "if you tell the ship, they are supposed to send you to the front of the line.". Hmm.

I think we would have felt bad for cutting in line in front of others, so whatever. We also weren't in a rush as we had an afternoon flight.

  • 2 weeks later...

I'm probably being dense, but could someone clear up my question ...

I'm deciding between getting a NEXUS card or Global Entry. Everything I read indicates that the NEXUS card has all the benefits of GE at half the price. Nexus is harder to get (fewer interview stations - we live in Seattle so no problem for us). My question ... coming off a HAL ship, I've seen the GE line at Port Everglades and they are much shorter than the "normal" line! I believe a NEXUS card entitles us to accessing the GE line ... true?

Thanks.

"All NEXUS members can enjoy the benefits of Global Entry at no additional cost through using the automated kiosks for entry at participating airports. NEXUS members will need to check their status in their Global Online Enrollment System account, as they may need to submit their 10-fingerprints or any other necessary documentation in order to receive Global Entry benefits. (GOES)"

The above quote is from the CBP website. I'm not positive, but I think it is primarily border states and Canada that have NEXUS available.

It is not available in California, so we have Global Entry. :) Since the cruise port thing is such a new program, I don't know how it would work there either.
