Heading out on January 4th for a ten day cruise on the Emerald to the Eastern Caribbean...Wondering if my husband should pack his tuxedo for formal nights...Are guys still wearing tuxes on cruises these days?? Appreciate any feedback that you could provide!

I do (as you can see). And I know many others do too. While a small group here resists the idea, others do not. Also, most cruisers never post here.

It's been my experience that most men dress well-suits mostly, tuxes less so, but they are there.

I say go for it!

We do tuxes on Cunard & suits on other lines.

Most don't wear one.

I go the kilted route, but it's still the highland equivalent of a tux.

We were on the Emerald Princess just about 1 year ago in the Caribbean. I don't believe I saw one man wearing a tuxedo at dinner on formal night.

If your husband wants to wear the tuxedo, I'm sure he'll look great--but he may feel a little out-of-place.

Since he owns one and if it still looks good and is in style, if you guys want to bring it and have space and he's happy to wear it, why not?

But there aren't many tuxes on display in the Caribbean, especially when you take away the weddings.

I do not own a tux, but, if I did, I would definitely take it for cruise formal nights.

Somebody up above wrote that he would fell out of place. To the contrary I would think that he would feel very confident and proud to be escorting his (I am sure) beautiful wife. ;)

I take my tux & white dinner jacket all the time. I like to dress up as you can see in my picture. Go for it you will look GOOD and Moki's Smommy will think you look HOT!!!

A few do but most do not. You will see a lot of suits, sport coats and a few just shirts and pants. The trend now seems to be no tie.

I have taken my tux on every cruise except one of the Alaska ones we have been on (I took and wore a dark sport coat, dress shirt and tie for formal nights on that one). I will take the tux and/or white dinner jacket on our upcoming Caribbean 17 night cruises. I like to dress up, as does my wife.

Last November on the Emerald, I wore my tux. As I surveyed the room, I saw every manner of dress and I was in the minority. Princess MDR is definitely trending towards collared shirts and dark pants for men.

I'm making the change to polo shirts and pants from now on. One big consideration is the limited luggage size allowed by the airlines. We normally cruise 20 plus days, and I need the luggage space for the routine stuff.

True, that exists, but still mostly jackets at least last month. Thing is, we have effectively had "formal optional" in place for a while now and it seems to work okay. Only problem is for new Princess cruisers who don't research or join CC, they may arrive on board and wish they knew it's a little more relaxed than the written recommendations imply.

Same time, I do realize that the formal wear supporters feel things will degrade if "formal optional" is formally written into the Cruise Answer Book and into the "What to Bring" page on the website. They don't have to as long as Princess is clear about enforcement and continues to deny very casual wear that they already state is not allowed, while also being encouraging about dressing up a notch.
