Rock_Dr Posted January 10, 2016 #1 Share Posted January 10, 2016 (edited) Should be Port of Call, Sorry. I just checked to see that the for the itinerary I am planning this summer, my ship will be the only one in port at each of the three stops. I was curious if others check how crowded their ports will be. Do you check the port schedules to see how many ships will be in port to judge how crowded things may be? I check port schedules, but not for that reason. Pretty rare to have more than one ship in most ports down here.
whataboutport Posted January 10, 2016 #3 Share Posted January 10, 2016 I always check. How many ships and pax in port helps me make my decision of what excursions to plan. Many have complained they did not enjoy Tulum bc they feel like herded cattle. When we went, there were only 3 ships total, when usually there are 5 or maybe even 6, so it was very comfortable and not crowded at all that day. Karysa Posted January 10, 2016 #5 Share Posted January 10, 2016 I always check to see how many ships are in whether I'm on a cruise or land or combo vacation.
maryann ns Posted January 10, 2016 #6 Share Posted January 10, 2016 I found it handy while on a land tour in the Adriatic. I avoided Venice and Dubrovnik on the days with the most ships. For a cruise checking the ports is interesting, but I always go on private tours or DIY and get avoid some of the crowds.
bakersdozen12 Posted January 10, 2016 #7 Share Posted January 10, 2016 I check port schedules, just out of curiosity. But I don't have enough flexibility in my schedule to be able to book my cruises around whether the ports are packed or not.

Cruise_Christy Posted January 11, 2016 #14 Share Posted January 11, 2016 I didn't even know you could, but now I'm curious :) Does anyone know what the best website to check on is, is there one website that does all ports (in Europe?)
jocap Posted January 12, 2016 #15 Share Posted January 12, 2016 Try cruisett.com. ;)
h-sar Posted January 12, 2016 #16 Share Posted January 12, 2016 I always do as the number of ships might determine what time I decide to leave my ship on a port day. The busier the port, the earlier I'll get off.
Irishman45 Posted January 13, 2016 #17 Share Posted January 13, 2016 Mostly for ports that have two or more dock locations such as St Thomas to know which one we might be at. Does help to know roughly how many tourists will be in any given port, so we know how long the taxi lines might be. Also about how long it might take to get back to the ship if multiple are leaving from the same dock somewhat at the same time. CruiseTT com helps a lot but I find it's always good to check with the actual Cruise company websites as well to verify the ships shown on the site will actually be there. SadieN Posted January 13, 2016 #18 Share Posted January 13, 2016 I check port schedules, but not for that reason. Pretty rare to have more than one ship in most ports down here. Same on the West Coast doing Mexican Riviera, California Coastals and Hawaii itins.
zqvol Posted January 13, 2016 #19 Share Posted January 13, 2016 It would be nice if OP would open up the results, or maybe a mod can just close this thread.
Rock_Dr Posted January 14, 2016 Author #20 Share Posted January 14, 2016 When I set up the poll I must have accidentally set it so the results are not visible. I apologize. I do not think I can change it now. Also you could ask nicely instead of being rude.
