Any Tips or Tricks for the Cruise Card?

Aloha from Hawaii again!

Sorry if I'm starting a ton of new threads, but I do honestly search for my topic first, and if I don't find a satisfactory answer in the search, I ask it again :D

So. I know we all get a cruise card when we board. But does everyone like having it on a lanyard or do you keep it in your wallet? I'm debating if maybe a card-holding cell phone case for the week would be worth it- just keep the cruise card and my ID with the phone. It is vacation after all.

If the lanyard way is the better way, do you get a lanyard with the card upon boarding? I'm a little weary of being 'one of those' cruise ship passengers that wears it out in the open on shore excursions.. haha. :D But if you more seasoned cruiser say there's a very good reason for that, then I'll take the advice to hart.

Anyway, yeah, so what is your Tip on the Cruise Card?

Mahalo!

No they do not give you a lanyard with your cruise card on Princess. But you might get one in the Casino, never tried asking but I know people do ask.

Crazy to wear cruise card out on excursions in plain sight, passengers look like vulnerable tourists enough already even without the card round their neck. I keep mine on the lanyard but tuck it all inside my shirt out of sight. And no I don't carry the blue Princess bag they give you.

Just keep your cruise card away from anything magnetic. Some people have told me they think their cellphone killed their card, don't know if that's so, there are magnets in the speakers on phones so that might be why. And many cellphone cases and purses have magnetic clasps. They will kill a card in a second.

My best tip on the cruise card is to keep it for when you get home to scrape ice off your windshield - possibly not a problem where you live.

I usually keep it in my pocket. I strongly advise against keeping it with your cell phone as for some reason, it will demagnetize it. I agree on the no go for the lanyard while out on shore.

Mrs Gut uses a lanyard with a plastic sleeve, puts her card her coffee card, her patter all in it.

I have a little notebook with a slot for a card that then goes in my pocket, but I'm lost without a bit of paper so it's great for me.

We always bring a lanyard, go to the purser's desk and get the card hole punched when we get on board. you can always take it off the lanyard for dinner if you don't want to wear it with dressy clothes on. We tie it to the loop on our back pack and tuck it inside when on excursions, that way it's easily accessed and won't get lost.

On the ship I use a lanyard. I place the card in the shirt pocket, just let it hang, or place it under the tee shirt. It is just so easy and I don't have to carry anything else around.

I never carry my normal wallet on the ship or on shore. I have a small zipper wallet that attaches to another lanyard which gets attached to my belt then into the pocket. In the small wallet I have photo ID, Cruise card, credit card and some cash as required.

On our first cruise, (ex)wife's cruise card kept stopping working. After several trips to the PS desk, we figured out the magnetic clasp on her clutch purse was deactivating it.

Keep you cruise card away from all magnets.

iPad ( magnetic strip on one side for the cover) iPhone purse/ wallet with magnetic clasp and smart phone cover - these will demagnetize the stateroom pass. The only consoling part is that if the card does not work, you can always go to Guest Service and ask for a new card. You won't be locked out.

It happened to me so many times in several Princess ships now that I make sure the card and my IPad and iPhone are miles apart.

I travel for work and I always keep my hotel card next to my cell phone. When I cruise I keep my card next to my cell phone. I have never had my card ruined by said cell phones.

Modern cell phones will not demagnetize a card. These speakers with magnets people blame couldn't demagnetize a card if you ripped it out of the phone and rubbed it directly on the card. Maybe if you have an ancient flip phone but it would take some effort.

Most likely there is a different magnetic source, magnets on purses or even magnets on iPad and cell phone cases, heck even some people can create magnetic fields and huge amounts of static charge but it's not your phone.

I got a bunch of credit card RDIF sleeves from Amazon and keep my cruise card in one, even when using a lanyard. I have a Kindle with an origami magnetic cover that has accidentally demagnetized my cruise card quite a few times. The RFID sleeve has made a huge difference.

Princess lanyard was purchased first Princess cruise in the gift shop and is worn everyday while on board. After they take my picture when I leave the ship in port, I put it in my purse still on lanyard and then put it back on. I also have a small plastic sleeve for the coffee card.

Enjoy your cruise!

On the ship, its hanging from a lanyard around my neck. Its convenient for me and that's all that matters. Dinner time, husband carries it for me. :D

I like being hands free but now that I have a tablet to read from, I worry I will forget it somewhere

Off the ship its either tucked in under a shirt or in my front pocket. I try not advertise that I'm on vacation. :)

Not keen on the lanyards and up till a few years ago just used to keep it in my pocket until I fell asleep a few times with my iPad on my lap and kept demagnetising the card!!!!! So now I use a small pass case which is like a small wallet with just two see through slots for cruise cards/passes etc. If you like the idea of a lanyard you can buy Princess ones in the onboard shop and they will punch a hole in the card for you there also.

You can buy lanyards almost anywhere. Target and Walmart carry them. Amazon has them. When we cruised on Royal, there was a place in the terminal selling them. You can get them to match your favorite school or sports team. You can also buy them on board.

I don't use a lanyard. I usually have more stuff to carry around. I have a small zipper-closed clutch with a wrist strap. I keep the cruise card, patter, daily suduko, pen, tissue, chapstick, sometimes the camera depending where we are. I've just picked up an ID card holder that you hang around your neck - the type you get at conventions - which has a velcro closure and zippered compartment. I'm going to give that a try this upcoming cruise.

DH just sticks his card in his pocket.

I love the juxtaposition of this sentence right up there near your "profile picture". Made me grin!
