casofilia Posted May 17, 2016 #3 Share Posted May 17, 2016 It isn't surprising that they don't when the cards they provide for the bridge players only last a couple of days before there are none!! Mike
IsanTom Posted May 17, 2016 #4 Share Posted May 17, 2016 NCL is really cutting back. If your flying international, most airlines still give out free cards!

johnql Posted May 17, 2016 #7 Share Posted May 17, 2016 Does anyone know if they still give out free playing cards at customer service? Was this ever the case? If so, it was a well-hidden fact. Or it was many, many years ago.

I don't know about NCL but on our first cruise with RCL back in 2013 we got a deck of playing cards from guest services to play with. Yes, I still have my sealed deck of NCL playing cards WITH the fish pattern on the backs..... then they were just giving out old decks from the casino....now they aren't giving any out for free. It wasn't all that long ago since they stopped. I got them on my trans-Atlantic crossing back about 5 years ago.

Gershep Posted May 18, 2016 #11 Share Posted May 18, 2016 If you earn enough signatures for playing trivia you can cash them in for a deck of cards, it's one of the prizes. If you get picked to be in one of their game shows sometimes they give you a goody bag and cards may be included.

Yes, I've gotten decks of cards for playing trivia, along with other small gift items. But I was never aware of free decks through the casino. xriva Posted May 18, 2016 #14 Share Posted May 18, 2016 If you have cards from another line, I would use them and see if the crew notices and does anything. Sent from my iPad using Forums mobile app

Into Cruising Posted May 18, 2016 #17 Share Posted May 18, 2016 On my last two cruises on the Epic, there were new s sealed decks of cards in the card/game room.....they were there the first day, and never were replenished. There was a sign also that said Please do not take the cards from the card room, not that that helped. Must admit that the cards were extremely cheap and began rippings and splitting with the first shuffle
Gershep Posted May 19, 2016 #18 Share Posted May 19, 2016 I didn't know you could get signatures for playing trivia. What do they sign? They usually hand out a piece of paper that has boxes on it. The crew signs it and at the end of the cruise you can redeem for little prizes, ie cards, coffee cup.

The new Gem coffee cups were selling in the gift shop for $16 each. The most expensive gift at 35 signatures was the NCL athlete at sea t-shirt . I settled for a 30 signature NCL water bottle Edited May 19, 2016 by mugtech Spelling

az-cruiser Posted May 19, 2016 Author #21 Share Posted May 19, 2016 Not hard to pack 99 cent playing cards ..... Hi tallnthensome, we will be playing a game that requires 1 deck per person, we have 8 people, so it adds a little weight when your flying in, plus they take up space. I'm also from Macomb, MI!! I can afford cards, just prefer not to pack them unless I have to. Do you happen to know how much they charge for them on the ship? Thanks! az-cruiser Posted May 19, 2016 Author #23 Share Posted May 19, 2016 Was this ever the case? If so, it was a well-hidden fact. Or it was many, many years ago. johlql, I have been on NCL, Carnival, HAL and Princess. Every ship has provided free playing cards, not the nice ones you find in the gift shop, but regular plain playing cards. I was on NCL about a year ago and packed our own cards, we only needed two decks, so I never asked for cards. With all the changes, i figure I would rather be safe than sorry, I dont really feel like paying $35 plus for 8 decks of playing cards on the ship. I was specifically asking about NCL because I don't ever recall them giving out free decks (not counting the cards available in the game room). However, someone has already replied that NCL did indeed give them out as of a few years ago but apparently no longer. If you need 8 decks (1 per person in your party), why doesn't each person simply bring a single deck? That would add very little weight or space to their packing. don't-use-real-name Posted May 19, 2016 #25 Share Posted May 19, 2016 Improvise - have a Wal*Mart store or other large concession at the port of origin - price should be fair and better than the ship's gift shop.
