Why do we cruise on Princess

We just returned from a terrific transatlantic cruise on Caribbean Princess. We had a great time. The crew and staff support was terrific. There were a few glitches, weather caused missing a port and the immigration process for the UK was pretty screwed up.

However, on our roll call after cruise postings list it as the cruise from hell and several posters stated they would never cruise on Princess again. That certainly may be their view and their choice.

We know why we cruise and why we choose Princess. But the criticisms raised by the posters make us wonder why they cruise and why they chose Princess.

Perhaps, we are in a very small minority who care less who the CD is and what they do. We do not play trivia or bingo or cruise to be entertained, we entertain ourselves.

We cruise to go and to explore new areas, see new things, meet new people.

We choose Princess because to us they deliver the most bang for the buck. We enjoy the perks they provide in their loyalty program. We enjoy interaction with the staff and learning about their lives in their home countries.

Question: Why do you cruise and why on Princess?

We cruise on Princess because it gives us what we want from a vacation... Time to relax, seamless transfers to and from the airport, personal service when needed, entertainment if we choose to go, a place to play cards and people watch and a way to see places for a short time.

We don't need to be on a first name basis with the captain, cruise director, or shopping specialists... We were on a first name basis with the lovely young lady at the shore excursion desk where she went out of her way to help us!!!

There have been glitches, but none we could BLAME on princess... So we cruise on Princess because it is our favorite!

The home my senior mother lived in had regular bridge games, bingo and other fun events. They never had a problem with embarkation or weather. The food wasn't too spicy and you could bring in all the liquor you want! Maybe that's a better deal for the complainers than Princess!

We cruise Princess because it provides the level of cruising we like. Good food, good music, comfortable cabins (OK, the showers are tiny), good entertainment. We enjoy morning trivia and love spending our days in the Sanctuary.

We think Celebrity is equally as good but they are only in the Australian region for our summer season. Princess is based here all year found, and there is nothing nicer than cruising up to the tropical regions in winter. That's why Princess is our favourite.

We loved and laughed at your thread. The only thing I can add, is we don't care to see the menus or patters, of any upcoming cruises. We will enjoy the cruise no matter who the Captain, CD, or even the chief are.

It's hard to explain that "It's where we belong" feeling we have on Princess. :)

Sure, we still cruise on other lines from time to time for cruises of 10 days or less because you never know unless you cruise on them yourself.

We cruise with Princess because we do enjoy feeling at home! Also, we love sailing out of San Francisco. That being said, our next two long cruises will be on HAL. It's all about itinerary. Princess doesn't have anything close to these two cruise experiences.

We will be doing a seven week cruise RT San Diego to the South Pacific this fall. In 2017, it will be a extensive seven week Mediterranean and more cruise. RT Ft Lauderdale. If princess had anything close we would be cruising with Princess.

Cheers, Denise

For us, it just fits.

Celebrity is our 2nd choice and if they adopted Aus$ and tips in fares and based a ship or two here year round they may even overtake Princess. There are certainly a couple of things we think they do better.

What you have both expressed is exactly why we cruise Princess.

We cruise because we think cruising is the best bang for your bucks, meeting new people, and talking with the crew members and learning about their home countries ect... Why do we cruise Princess because......well.....I'm not sure December will be our first Princess cruise. So we will be definitely coming back NEW. We just hope that Princess gives us the WoW factor.

Part of it for us may be that it was our first.

Took a long time to get Mrs Gut on one so the itinerary was all important.

By the time we got home, and it was only a week, we were hooked.

Having said that we both have busy lives and we love "us time" and don't need to be entertained around the clock.

Funny thing is 12 years later we are still among the young ones on Princess (only mid 50s) and are often called kids by people we get to know.

I know people my age who took their first (and last!) cruise on a different line. They sailed Carnival in the Caribbean during Spring Break. GAH! They will never cruise again.

My wife (finally!) convinced me to take a cruise. I absolutely knew I would hate everything about it. The snooty people, the fact that I get carsick - let alone seasick - etc. When I finally said I would cruise she booked us on Princess. Either she did me a great favor or cost me a great deal of money... I loved it.

Princess seemed to "fit" us from the first day. It isn't full of garish colors, drunk "young adults", etc. We felt "at home" from the first day onboard. On every subsequent cruise we have had that same feeling as soon as we boarded. Whatever it is that Princess "has" or "does" it totally works for us.

We cruise Princess because it feels right and they treat us right. Princess makes us happy. We like feeling happy. :)

We love Princess because it's like putting on your favorite pair of slippers......you feel comfortable, relaxed and you know what to expect. We have never been disappointed with the ship because it takes us where we want to go and without a care. With Princess it's all about taking you to places as opposed to the ship being the destination.

That is a good question. We made it to Platinum. Food is good but not great. Some of the Asian food was horrendous (sp?) but improving. I do like the self serve laundry, free internet minutes, ships and usually the staff. The ports visited are also a hit.

Our first cruise was aboard Princess. We noticed that the crowd seemed more, uh, mature. That didn't bother us. The majority of our subsequent cruises somehow ended up on Princess.

We have cruised other lines occasionally. Loved the service and food aboard Holland America, but thought the Princess ships were nicer. Enjoyed the Disney cruise concept - no casino and free soft drinks at dinner. Cruised NCL America once. Cruise from hell. Never cruising NCL again. Celebrity does rate highly.

Overall, it appears that Princess is our line of choice, but not exclusively. For the most part - have really enjoyed meeting other Princess passengers. Closing thought - yes - I do play and occasionally win trivia.

Great itineraries for a reasonable price. I also like the fact I've never had to deal with drunks in the hallway trying to find their cabins at 3 am or really immature and idiotic contests like "hairiest chest" or "reddest belly flop belly".

Like Thrak, had we done a Carnival cruise first it would have been our only cruise ever.

like many of you, we enjoy the perks - we feel welcome and at home on Princess ships - we like the ports on the itineraries - the food is good to great -ambiance on ship is wonderful. Sure there are more things but can't think of them right now.

As for the caribbean princess negative comments, sorry but I took that ship a year ago and feel it is awful. We found no seating available for coffee or at The Vines for wine daily. almost too small a ship for number of passengers.

We travelled extensively years ago on HAL and loved it until carnival took it over and we felt so many minor changes we decided to not travel them again. Now we strictly do Princess.

Princess feels like our second home. We enjoy the itineraries and meeting fellow cruisers as well as the crew and staff members. Our 16th Princess and most recent cruise was the best we've experienced. It was a combination of things: the ship (Regal), the Captain and staff, room steward, the food, the itinerary, non-ship excursions, etc. It's all about enjoying the cruise experience and adventure. Hubby and I are looking forward to our next two cruises on the Caribbean Princess.

After 2 cruises years apart on different lines, we wanted to cruise the Panama Canal and had two itineraries in mind, one on Holland and one on Princess. We preferred the one on Princess and our travel agent told us Princess would be a "good fit" for us. :D It was!

Our bucket list of itineraries continued to be offered by Princess each time we researched another cruise and as someone else stated in a previous post, we felt at home on the ships. So we have continued to sail with them ever since.

We will eventually try another line because we are over indulgent grandparents to a lovable little 2 year old who must visit Minnie Mouse at sea.:D ;). We also will try some others out of curiosity. But Princess will remain our "good fit".

We are long term Disney Cruise Line guests, having started in 1998 on the maiden voyage of the Magic.

We did a "try out" on the Caribbean Princess before booking the TA/British Isles cruise--we had a similar cruise booked on DCL, but when I learned that I could get a balcony on Princess for half the cost of an inside on Disney...it was rather a "no brainer."

Bottom line, on the first night my daughter commented that she hadn't expected to like this ship, but there was "Nothing wrong with it." That rather says it all. We've cruised 4 lines and found things that each of them does better than any other. We certainly missed our favorite crew members from Disney (it's nice to board and be welcomed back or to get special perks for those many cruises). But Princess has a good product for a good price. And we have 2 more cruises booked with them at this point.

Sure, some day we might have cruised enough to know the "right" people and have earned the same perks that we have on DCL....and some day Princess might improve their internet and internet billing...but right now, they are a good product for us.

We were P&O/Princess cruisers for 30+ years, but the 2015 World Cruise was our last. Since Princess was purchased by Carnival we have noted a steady decline in standards.

Princess ships had better passenger/space ratios so never felt crowded and the meals were exceptional. We also enjoyed the laid back atmosphere, no rowdy parties or hundreds of screaming kids. The crews are always exceptional.

Lately they are cramming more pax on the ships - super grands with extra deck of cabins and Island with 150+ extra cabins. The quality of the meals have declined significantly, it might not be so obvious on short cruises, but for 100+ nights it was painfully obvious.

While aboard Sea Princess we experienced numerous issues with maintenance and the hull resembled a tramp ship rather than a gleaming pax liner.
