I have watch children running around running between the tables, playing hide and sneak and the parents did not even look their way. Guess them have a quiet drink without their children meant more to them the the other quest in the lounge.

I do believe that parents drink in front of their children and hopefully act accordingly, but you are not alone and don't know the behavior of others. A large group of adults drinking just isn't a place for children. Now as far as adult conversation...well, if your talking about portfolio's, wife swapping, sex...hell, you could be talking about the great massage you got at 11am, its not a conversation that children would find entertaining or interesting. I like children and I have no problem with them, but there are places that are for adults only. Its just my POV. I have grown children now too...and they enjoy going into the connoisseur lounge with me and their dad. But they had to be an adult to go. We have traveled with children...we made time for their activities and made time for our activities. They can't do the same stuff all the time.

 

I highlighted a portion of your post in red above - you've just described the pool area. So, by that reasoning, kids shouldn't go there either. I've seen, much, much worse at the pool than in the DL.

 

I'm glad they currently allow kids in the DL. Mine are young teenagers now and sometimes they join us for a non-alcoholic drink or two and some appetizers while we discuss the day and any plans for the next and then we either head off to dinner together or they go do their own thing. They are polite, well mannered and they tip the wait staff.

 

When they were younger and not allowed in during cocktail hour we didn't use the lounge as much because it was a hassle to put them in Adventure Ocean for 30 to 45 minutes (if it was even open at that time) or get a sitter for that short a time. It just didn't make sense so we would just skip going. There also weren't any drink vouchers on your card back then so we essentially lost the Diamond Lounge cocktail hour benefit and, as many of you will agree, that is one of the big benefits of reaching Diamond. Yes, this was our choice to skip it but we felt it was our only sensible choice to make.

 

Thankfully, now we have other options.:D

If a couple is in the DL or CL/SL with a small child, and then that child starts screaming, what should the parents do? Many parents will just let the child scream and do nothing. And some Concierges will also do nothing. How rude.

Parents should take child out. It's happened to me with a toddler; they don't come with remote controls. I don't wait 10 minutes, 5 minutes, or even 2 minutes. When problems arise I take my kid out. It's pretty rare; he's usually well behaved but every kid hits a wall sometimes. From first obnoxious yell to outside in 30 seconds and I let him calm down before going back in. I don't tell; I talk to my kid like an adult and it works fine. People have thanked me for my actions. One bad kid or one set of lazy parents are not a proxy for all of us; some of us have functioning brains and are aware of surroundings. Unfortunately some grandparents/empty nesters can not even control themselves let alone kids

The only time I overhear conversations I'm not involved in is when people get drunk in public and can't control their volume and that's happened in all the dining rooms and public lounge I've been in over the years. People conversing at normal levels can't be overheard and so I still don't get what sort of conversations people are having that are not suitable for someone else to overhear. If people we meet on a cruise try to discuss politics or religion I politely cut them off and put a stop to that immediately because I'm not interested, not because it has anything to do with age appropriateness

We are sailing on the Freedom Trans Atlantic this October in the Royal Family Suite so we'll have access to both lounges. There is typically a lot of high C & A members on those sailings so the CL will probably be busy - Should be an interesting experience.

I didn't smoke around the love muffins...those love muffins are now hard rock cookies...in there own homes, with their own jobs...(I could do a praise dance just typing that)....they are all grown now. I think I'll have a drink on that.

The pool and a lounge are different places. I'm sorry. I simply don't agree with children being in a lounge...others do, and more power to them. To each their own. Mine wouldn't be in a lounge.

The non smoking section of a casino isn't a bad area either...but its not for children. What you can do and what you should do are different things. I think the bottom line is that there are people that don't want to share their DL time with children...whether you like it, whether you have the best children in the world, etc. Royal Caribbean may see differently and if they go a different route...then so be it. I personally don't care, but I understand some wanting time without children.

I have also seen misbehaving children, teens AND adults in the CL,SL and DL. It has come down to the concierge to make sure everyone that uses the lounge is not intruding on other guests.

 

Coming from a father of a 11 year old that goes to the dl/sl with us. He knows how to behave and will get a few fruit punch drinks and apps. Then he usually leaves to meet a friend somewhere.

The problem is not with the children but with the parents & grandparents who have no consideration for others. When my children were young they would not have lasted long in a lounge until they would have been bored. Parents do not disciple their children then expect others to tolerate their poor behavior and have no concern if EVERYONE in the lounge is giving them the stink eye because they are disrupting the environment. Also, a passive lounge attendant does not make the situation any better. Our situation with a poorly behaved family and child last year was so bad the ship officers had to be called to the lounge to asses the situation.

I was in the grocery store today and it was awful! All I heard was screaming, screeching, crying children. It reminded me of this thread, with the exception of no wine. Stopped on the way home a bought a bottle!:eek:

We have no problem with well behaved children, but when you encounter a cruise where parents aren't parenting and the staff does nothing...........becomes a problem.
