How may skip all or most of the organized activities

Skip, skip, skip. We enjoy being at sea and watching the ocean on our balcony together. We always say, we can see a movie or show anytime, but the view is something we cannot get at home. We enjoy being together in the middle of the ocean. No phones, no internet, just us. PRICELESS.

I will be on only my fifth Princess cruise in November and I still haven't got over how many activities I can join in with each sea day!!! I'll be there every evening checking out the Patter and marking what I want to do the next day. In fact on my first cruise I actually lost weight as I was so active!!

Some days I'm slightly participative and may do a craft project or line dancing but most days I'm not. And never trivia. Those people are too intense!!

LOL. Isn't that the truth? I've seen some nearly come to blows. I read on cruises. I load up the kindle and enjoy the sea while I catch up on authors I like.

I wonder how many people skip the all or most of the organized activities in the daytime or the evening or both.

Nothing listed in the Patter would ever really be a strong selling point for us. We are happy enough just to enjoy being on the sea. Sometimes we do go to a show at night. Nothing in the daytime. If we happen to be at the IC when something is going on, we might stay.

For a while I've wondered if cruising would be even better if the organized activities/entertainment were different or somehow more appealing. On the other hand, I don't like having a schedule when on vacation, so maybe it is for the best that nothing is really a must-see or a must-do. I have read horror stories about people trying to schedule show tickets on Royal Caribbean months in advance.

Sometimes it's just fun to people watch. We'll watch the dance lessons from the stairs on the Piazza or lounge with a drink in Crooners & watch the pax as they stroll by(Regal Princess was our ship). As they say you can do as little or as much. It's up to you. Another poster did comment about the lectures on Cunard. I agree that they made for very interesting travel on the Queens.

I board the ship, go thru all of the formalities that are required unpack grab a drink then the vacation is on!!!! I just let everything unfold and play out day by day, I spend most of the day hanging out around the pool and the bar, especially when I have the sip&sail!!! you know you have to enjoy it more when it's (free) ;) anyway I hang out read play Farkle on my i-pad meet and talk with folks and enjoy the day. At night if there is something good going on somewhere on the ship I will try to make it there, but it's not a must because i'm on the cruise to relax and enjoy the time away from the day to day things at home.

I'm one of those people who loves it all. I love trivia, bingo, dancing, shows, pool movies, cooking shows, tours, and booze games. Love Love Love it all.

Shame we're not on the same cruise, I'm with you on all (well perhaps not trivia!!):D

In all my many Princess cruises, I have done very few daytime activities, only 3 lectures (panama canal cruise) and at night 1 magician (gaitano) and 1 comedy/ventriloquist) act (willie tyler and lester).

Thats it!

I am so glad that you responded to this post. I have been trying to remember that ventriloquist act. We caught the first act on a whim and ended up going to the second show. At any rate, I forget who was who but the little guy sitting on the bigger guy's lap was great.

I remember on my first couple of cruises getting so excited about getting the Patter each evening. I would take it to read in bed. Now I hardly even look at it. It's funny how we cruise changes over the years.

I agree. I used to read & highlight activites listed in the Patter nightly. Now the only "must dos" are reservations for specility dining.

Depends on if I am cruising solo or cruising with someone. Cruising solo I tend to be more involved but depends on itinerary. Loved the Hawaii cruise and ukulele lessons and final show. Also will do knitters and natters group on most cruises.

Other than that - I bring my books, visit the library, and bring my knitting.

Like another poster mentioned, I rarely care who the cruise director is and no longer go to shows.

We never miss afternoon trivia or the specialist enrichment lecturers like they have on Alaskan and Sth American cruises. We like to watch the ice carvers and all the happy people on formal night at the Champagne Tower. We are yet to attend a production show and have seen just a handful of guest performers in the theatre, but we like listening to the wonderful musicians in Crooners while enjoying an early evening drink. Don't do gym, dance or shopping but like to drop into the Art Lectures sometimes and really enjoy the repeat, repeat episodes of the Love Boat!

Your query reminded me of research i saw when I was on the Orlando Convention and Visitors Board. Destinations were ranked by various attributes. Cruising excelled in the "something for everybody to do" attribute. I love that my days are my own. No decisions other that what kind of fun to have.

We read the Patter every night, circle a bunch of things. And end up doing a few of them. On sea days, we are Sanctuary aficionados. I put on the headphones, sob to Adele and read read read. Always try the comedians. Love the new shows on Princess. And try to get in a trivia game or two. The only MUST is the casino every night for me.

We've looked at most of the activities sometime or another during our cruise lifetime, except gambling/bingo.

Our routine is usually to look at the Patter the night before, circle the stuff we would be interested in, and then miss most of it ;) because we are relaxing or having a nice lunch overlooking the ocean. We go to dance lessons but mostly refresh & practice our own steps using their music, and partake if there is something new. We enjoy artistic things, like ice sculpture or demos of making fruit animals,, and always take some time to browse the art for sale offerings, critique-ing as we go. Last Caribbean cruise had a session on playing the steel drums that was fun. Otherwise we like to read and relax, especially on our balcony. We occasionally go swimming. DW will usually try to catch the kitchen tour and demo. I've really come to enjoy the atrium shows and music during the day.

Night time is whatever looks best to us, but always taking some time to dance. Will take in a couple of shows, but not comedians (DW doesn't like their humor). MUTS if a good sci-fi or adventure film is showing.

What makes cruises great is that there is something for everyone, and we don't have to do anything if we don't feel like it.

That's why we normally just do it ourselves for fun to see what we can get right. We do surprisingly well. :) We did join up with a nice couple - Andrew and Stephan from Canada - on one cruise. We did trivia with them a couple of times. Another time in the evening a lady even older than us (! :)) got us to join her and a couple of others for a "theme" trivia. The CD staff had a kind of skit and you had to identify the music at a number of points with just a few notes. We did quite well but not well enough to win. I got singled out by the staff to "play" one of the parts. I just had to read lines in a certain part but I gave it my all and got great response from the CD staff and the audience. :) Afterward they gave me a bottle of champagne for participating and - HUGE surprise - it wasn't horrible!!! I have won champagne in the Champagne Hoopla ring toss in the atrium that was truly horrid but this wasn't bad at all! There must have been some kind of mistake. :D

I'm on the cruise to relax so I do whatever my wife tells me :D :D

Tony

Oh... So you know the "Yes, Dear" line well? :D

I used to work for a female supervisor. One time someone asked her, "Did he just say Yes Dear to you?" Yep. Worked for the boss as well.

I do whatever my wife wants me to... as long as it's not something I don't want to do. I find that most of the time what my wife wants works for me quite well. Married 44 years and counting so I must be doing something right - at least part of the time.

DW and I have some joint activities we like to do, but also some solo activities.

Me

- Speed Sudoku

- Lectures, but not shopping talks

DW

- Bingo

- Zumba (she's an instructor on land)

Joint

- Trivia

- MUTS (if there is a good move on)

Otherwise, I'll lay out with a good book while she spends time in the casino.
