I believe you are wrong and post #46 would seem to show that excursions can work on this.

 

Anyway - one should know almost instantly if a purchase makes the offer - as an email (and mobile app notification, if you have it) come right after. If you don't see your statement credit online within a week (I've never had one take more than 3 days), you can cancel and have the charge credited.

 

For the record, I use these offers all the time. I have never not had one gone through and for most of the store and restaurant offers, I simply buy a gift card. Now this offer specifically says it excludes gift cards, so I probably wouldn't try that, but I bet it would work anyway.

The offer DOES say that it's not applicable to shore excursions

BUT - if you book your shore excursion with Celebrity and then use an Amex to pay for it, won't it just show up as a payment to Celebrity?

How would Amex be able to distinguish exactly what the charge is for?

I have to go thru my TA but I give my CC number to her and she gives it to the cruise line. Never had a TA that charged the payment to their agency and I wouldn't use one that did. So my final payment is always charged to Celebrity. Seems like it would be the same with the warehouse. The warehouse TA should call it in without it going thru the warehouse point of sale that does not take AMEX.

We booked our cruise thru a big warehouse that does not accept Amex any more. Do we have to go thru them to make a pmt on our cruise?? If I could pay X directly, then I could us our Amex card and take advantage of this offer.

Does anyone know if the TA has to do anything to validate this offer? Or can the TA just submit the payment online or on the phone (it goes to Celebrity directly either way) and the offer will automatically be applied since the customer activated it online with Amex?

The TA doesn't need to do anything...just submit the payment and as long as you have selected the offer on your card it will work.

Checked with TA, and we definitely have to make pmts thru them. Hadn't thought of an OBC, but was wondering if we could use it for shore excursions booked thru X before we leave for the cruise--perhaps, a combo of OBC and shore excursions.

In other words, they are the middle man. I have also had a TA just email me after successfully making the payment to Celebrity rather than having me wait on hold. In both cases, the payment goes to the credit card as a Celebrity Cruises transaction. This should work for you. (We're sad that our AmEx card doesn't have this offer.)

I think this is the third time (all three times in the fall, btw) that this has been offered and it's the first time we (finally) got it.

OK. I have a few Amex cards, Delta being one of those. It only showed up on one of my cards.

These offers are always offered via Twitter as well, so I tried tweeting the standard requirement a couple different ways just in case, but nothing. I talked to the online chat person who is "looking into it," which means nothing will happen. Really bummed not to be able to take advantage of this as we have three cruises booked in the next 2 years. Oh, well, congrats to those who were able to get the deal. Maybe next time??

I just recently took advantage of this on an RCCL offer. My upcoming cruise with them was paid in full but purchased $350 in OBC directly through them and got the credit on my statement. I was told I could use it in the casino or for excursions, shopping, spa, drinks, specialty dinners, photos, etc ... so I thought, why not? Whatever I didn't use would be refundable but I know I will use it all ... not even an issue on that.

It worked with Royal so thought I would pass my success story along. If nothing else, it is worth a try so why not? It is always refundable if not used.

While I cannot say it will work for sure, for me, it would be at least worth a try. I don't see anything specific to OBC in the terms ... even though someone might interpret it as such. What do you have to lose by trying it. It all depends on how Celebrity actually sends in the charge to Amex.

 

I was even successful in the past of having the offer code added to my Amex card when a specific cruise offer wasn't showing for my card. Others here stated they were unsuccessful but I got $200 on it from paying down my balance on a Princess cruise.

My DH & I have a joint account but separate card #'s and log ins with American Express. The offer showed on my card but not his. I don't know if that's because I already loaded it to my card but there was another offer that I loaded yesterday that did show up on his log in.

This may be a targeted offer based on location. I'm in California and checked several of our cards and no dice on the Celebrity offer. Only see the $80 off of a $500 purchase if booking through Amex's own travel site. I did see a spend $1000 on Virgin Atlantic and get $200 back so it may take that offer up =) Thanks for the heads up and I'll keep checking before the expiration date.
