Rare Jamman54 Posted September 24, 2016 Author #226 Share Posted September 24, 2016 Jeff, thanks for the pictures of sailing out of Manhattan, Portland, and Kennebunkport. I could never get tired of seeing pictures of the NY skyline. :D TC aka Barb. Will be waiting on the next installment. Hey Barb! It didn't click that it was you the first time you posted! :o I forgot that you have a different user name here. Always glad to have you along! Enjoy your cruise to the A,B,C islands. We've been to A & C, but we have to wait until March to go to B! :D
SeaHunt Posted September 24, 2016 #227 Share Posted September 24, 2016 You are right. Construction on the Atlantis began in 1994 and lasted for four years. The picture shows how it looked as it neared completion. Of course, they have added much more since then Fantastic review! You and Mitsugirly are my favorite trip reporters because you both have the talent and ability to make readers feel like we are right there onboard with you! :D Kind of hard though when you're drooling over the lobster roll and blueberry crisp pictures while drinking a weight loss shake LOL. Re the Atlantis - I wonder how many "old timers" here remember way, way back, when a Carnival cruise that stopped in Nassau meant taking a cab ride over to Carnival's "Crystal Palace"? What a place! I guess they were just a little too ahead of their time with that concept - bet it wouldn't be a money loser nowadays ;) http://articles.sun-sentinel.com/1992-01-23/business/9201040643_1_carnival-air-carnival-cruise-lines-carnival-spokesman
Rare Jamman54 Posted September 24, 2016 Author #228 Share Posted September 24, 2016 Tonight we are having dinner at Cucina del Capitano. The rocking of the ship has made a few people cancel their reservations, but we just ordered a bottle of Pinot Grigio and prepared to dig in! Cucina is not crowded at all….. The Chef poses for a picture….. To be continued…..

I went to the Crystal Palace quite a few times when it was open. It was a beautiful place. Flew to Nassau one time on Carnival Air. Bet a lot of people don't remember that they owned an airline from 1988 to 1998. Edited September 24, 2016 by Jamman54
Rare Jamman54 Posted September 24, 2016 Author #230 Share Posted September 24, 2016 Patti and I at our table in Cucina del Capitano….. Our bread selection….. Patti had the Caprese salad and the spaghetti carbonara….. I had Nonna’s meatballs and the chicken parm….. All of our food was delicious. Patti and I shared an order of cannolis for dessert. This meal was well worth the $15/pp upcharge. To be continued…….
Rare Jamman54 Posted September 24, 2016 Author #231 Share Posted September 24, 2016 Leaving Cucina we passed the Pour Your Own Beer station. I never used it the whole cruise. I guess with Guiste bringing me a Thirsty Frog Red whenever I needed one, I didn’t have to! Lol. We made our way down to Limelight Lounge for the next scheduled comedy show. It’s been mentioned countless times that this venue is much too small and we agree. We were able to stand by the bar and the comedian, Sheila Kay, wasn’t bad. Afterwards, we were tired from the day, so we made our way back to the cabin where we found tonight’s turndown service…… We had a very nice day in Portland and Kennebunkport, and a great meal in Cucina del Capitano. Good Night! Coming up:Our day in Boston, quack quack!!!

Flew to Nassau one time on Carnival Air. Bet a lot of people don't remember that they owned an airline from 1988 to 1998. Crystal Palace was on the mainland and had a casino, right? I think dh and I went to some kind of show there when I was in Nassau.

VASOXFANN Posted September 25, 2016 #235 Share Posted September 25, 2016 (edited) Are there a lot of very elderly people on this cruise? I did a Canada & NE cruise in '08 on RC, and I was the youngest on the ship by decades (in my 30s at the time). The average age on that cruise had to have been 80  I'm wondering if that is usual for this route, or the one I was on had a special group or something. I'd like to take DH on this cruise someday, as we met in Halifax. There's nothing wrong with the aged, but we'd like to be among some folks in our age group. Crusin Karen Posted September 25, 2016 #236 Share Posted September 25, 2016 OT: debating for a few days whether to mention this but here goes: Patti looks so contented and calm and the longer hair makes her look many years younger. Said it before and I'll say it again: wish we could do a cruise together and Patti and I could order a Caribbean Colada together! ;)
skrufy Posted September 25, 2016 #237 Share Posted September 25, 2016 Jamman, you have brought back more memories with your Portland, Kennebunkport photos. Spent 4 years in the mid 60s in the Air Force in New Hampshire and Maine. Traveled the coast many times, its is truely beautiful. I like lighthouses but never saw the Portland one. Reminds me of a larger Montauk Point, Long Island lighthouse.
Krazy Kruizers Posted September 25, 2016 #238 Share Posted September 25, 2016 Wonderful review. Love the trip down memory lane. Kennebunkport -- loved that port. My mouth is watering for a lobster role. Pictures are great.

The nightlife still runs late on Carnival. OT: debating for a few days whether to mention this but here goes: Patti looks so contented and calm and the longer hair makes her look many years younger. Rare Jamman54 Posted September 25, 2016 Author #242 Share Posted September 25, 2016 Day 4 – Boston, Massachusetts – (7:00am – 4:00pm) We were up at 6am. The rocking has stopped and the seas are calm. We docked right at 7am. It was going to be a cloudy, rainy, and cool kind of day. The temperature was now 63 degrees, and it was going to be in the low 70’s later on in the day. Here’s the view from the bow cam. The Celebrity Summit is docked in front of us….. Patti and I went up to Lido for breakfast and again we went back by the Havana Bar and easily found seats. We both had omelets. Here is mine and this time before I dug in! Lol. To be continued…..

Rare Jamman54 Posted September 25, 2016 Author #244 Share Posted September 25, 2016 (edited) We were sitting by the back windows, and while we ate, watched the jets land at nearby Logan International Airport….. After breakfast we walked around and when we got to the beach pool this is what we saw. Can you say chilly and wet! We got off the ship at 9am for 9:30 tour. We have arrived in Boston! This is what we are going to be doing today. Boston Highlights by Duck EXCURSION DETAILS Enjoy the highlights of Boston by both land and sea on this unique panoramic tour of the city's most important and scenic sites via a World War II amphibious vehicle called the Boston Duck. Beginning on land, the Duck takes you past all the places that make Boston the birthplace of freedom and a city of firsts. Pass through the heart of Boston and along a portion of the Freedom Trail to catch a glimpse of the Old State House, the site of the Boston Massacre, the King's Chapel, Granary Burying Ground, the Park Street Church, Boston Common, the historic North End, fashionable Newbury Street, Quincy Market, and the Prudential Tower among others. Then "splash" into the Charles River for a breathtaking view of the Boston and Cambridge skylines, Longfellow Bridge linking Boston and Cambridge, and Fenway Park and the Esplanade in the distance. Once back on dry land, proceed to Faneuil Hall/Quincy Market, where you may opt to be dropped off, or continue directly back to the pier. Guests who wish to remain at Quincy Market will make their own way back to the ship at their own expense. Price = Adults $79.99, Children $59.99. NOTES •Tour may operate in alternate order. •Guests must be able to climb 8 steps to get on/off the Duck vehicle. •Children 5 and under are free. One of the three duck boats leaving from the pier today….. This is our driver / tour guide….. To be continued….. Rare Jamman54 Posted September 25, 2016 Author #245 Share Posted September 25, 2016 (edited) Jeff- Freud would have another opinion to offer ;) Now that's funny!! :D:D I've never been to Cucina del Capitano, but have it reserved for our Vista sailing in November. The meatballs were offered at the Taste Bar on the Miracle, which doesn't have a Cucina del Capitano, and they were divine! I'm now REALLY looking forward to that dinner in a few months. Thanks for reminding me! It really is a GREAT meal well worth the $15 up-charge. For lunch it becomes a free pasta bar! Please don't take this the wrong way but this would help me/us out, and make viewing the pages much easier. If in your signature you put a space between each of your countdown clocks, it would space them top to bottom instead of side to side which pushes the right border all the way over to the right, and everything would fall into place. If the way you have it is the way you want it that's ok too, just a suggestion. Edited September 25, 2016 by Jamman54

Rare Jamman54 Posted September 25, 2016 Author #248 Share Posted September 25, 2016 Because of the rain, the plastic sides were pulled down to keep us from getting wet. That, plus the weather outside and the speed of the duck, made it very hard to get good pictures. So we’ll share the decent ones Patti was able to get. Patti got this one as we slowly went by the Cheers Tavern….. Here’s a few of the Public Garden….. To be continued…..
