At 3pm we made our way to the Diamond Party at Piano Bar 88 on Deck 4…..

CS03361.JPG

Here are some of the snacks we were served……

CS03381.JPG

For the next hour or so we met and talked with Captain Catalani, his Senior Staff, and CD Emma Nixon. Due to the malfunctioning camera most of the shots were not usable, except for this one with me and Emma, who had just come in from hosting Seuss-a-Palooza…..

CS03391.JPG

Here is the group shot. It was a great party!

CS0340.jpg

Afterwards Patti and I hit the casino again and had better luck. Patti won $80 on the slots, and I won $200 playing blackjack.

Back to the room to get ready for dinner where we found that our Platinum/Diamond chocolate covered strawberries had arrived. They looked like the rejects from the Java Café!

Tonight was Elegant Night featuring the American Feast menus…..

CS03421.JPG

CS03431.JPG

We brought one of our bottles of wine to dinner tonight, and it was opened and served to us and we were not charged a corkage fee.

I started with a shrimp cocktail and the Italian wedding soup…..

CS03441.JPG

Patti started with a Caesar salad and the spaghetti carbonara…..

CS0345.JPG

We both had the lobster. I confess, I had three!

CS0346.JPG

After dinner we walked around for a while, then decided to call it a night and head back to the cabin where we found tonight’s turndown service. Patti was given a $50 gift card to the spa for her Milestone cruise…….

It was a very fun day. Good Night!

I'm anxiously awaiting your pics and review of Portland! I'm not a Mainer but a transplant to Maine and love fall when the ships come in. We actually went to the old port with my daughters when you were in port to see the Carnival ship- though we can see the whale's tail from our house. I was getting them excited for their Vista cruise in March! Thanks for the great review!

I'm very interested in where you went in Maine as I spend a bit of time there each summer. My sister lives in Ellsworth, the last town before Bar Harbor, and my parents retired to Jonesport (way up on the coast, close to Canada). Each August, my sister and I spend a weekend near Portland so that we can attend an extended family reunion. We're always looking for ideas for where to go in the Portland, southern coast areas. Unfortunately, the place we LOVE in Cape Porpoise (just north of Kennebunkport) doesn't open until 5 pm so when the DBF & I finally manage to take a New England cruise, we'll have to find a different location.

I absolutely LOVED your throwback pictures. I've only been cruising since 2008 so I enjoy seeing pictures of how things were years ago. Not to mention how beautiful your sons are.

Since I will be on the Sunshine next June I am also enjoying the pictures of the ship along with your interesting review. Thanks for writing it.

Thanks for reading! Actually, the Atlantis was being built when we were there in 1998.

full?d=0

Do you mean they were building it bigger? My dh was deployed for the Marines to Nassau in 1996 and Atlantis was there, it was just much smaller than it is now. Back then you could actually go into the aquarium for free and when I went over to visit we walked all over the property and didn't spend a dime. Dh actually met Jamie Lee Curtis on the beach there.

I loved reading your review so far, looking forward to more!

You are right. Construction on the Atlantis began in 1994 and lasted for four years. The picture shows how it looked as it neared completion. Of course, they have added much more since then

We live in Portland just a few blocks from the cruise terminal. Looking forward to your Portland report.

Hey Jimmy! Didn't realize you were from there. Loved your town!! :)

Well here we are. I managed to finish up my Fascination report and I have found you have returned now and started your review. As we have talked about before, I'm not sure if this is "my" type of cruise, but I'm always willing to look and see if it might interest me.

However, I want to sail on the Sunshine some day and I always love your reviews...so, here I am anyhow. :D

Love the flash back photos. Awesome! Loving the review so far. :)

Hey Kim! Thanks for dropping in. Still catching up on your review, which is awesome by the way! Have to say that we liked the Sunshine more than we thought we would, and I have plenty of ship pictures to show you.

It was chaos in there wasn't it? They weren't ready to handle the large amount of VIP's that were on this cruise. Took them over a half an hour to find our Sail & Sign cards.

Mitsugirly and I actually did cruise together in April of 2015 on the Pride though we never did meet up. A collaborative review would be an awesome thing to do. :)

There can be interesting snorkeling on this cruise, but you would likely need a wetsuit as the water would be quite cold for your daughter.

Day 3 – Portland, Maine - (7:00am – 5:00pm)

CS03501.jpg

CS03511.jpg

CS03521.jpg

We were up a little after 6am. Looking at the bow camera view we could see that we were sailing in the Casco Bay and were almost in Portland. The seas were calm and there was very little wind. The temperature outside was 57 degrees and it was supposed to be in the low 70’s later today. After the hot weather in New Jersey this past August, this was like free air conditioning!

We made our way up to the Lido Deck for breakfast, and went back by the Havana Bar, where you could always find a table and seats during breakfast and lunch. There are two omelet lines on the JiJi’s side…..

CS03531.JPG

There is one more omelet line on the Cucina del Capitano side, but they also had the breakfast meats and potatoes, etc. there…..

At the Havana Bar itself, they had the breakfast Havana bites…..

CS03551.JPG

There are two beverage stations back there, one on each side…..

CS03561.JPG

Patti and I both had omelets. Here’s my breakfast plate. Sorry that I had eaten part of my omelet before I remembered to take a picture! Lol.

The Carnival Sunshine docked right on time in Portland. After breakfast we went up to Deck 10 to have a look around. That building with the white roof at the end of the pier is the terminal building. Looks like a pretty long walk to get there. You can also see the tour buses waiting in the parking lot…..

CS0358.JPG

Here are a couple of views of the Portland Harbor area…..
