Diamond Lounge

I am more than willing to change with the times, accept shorts in MDR, even though I belong to the tux generation of thirty years of cruising, but I also believe in dressing correctly. To me correctly would mean dress shorts, if there is such a thing, such as Bermuda or twill shorts and a polo shirt. Unfortunately, many people equate gym clothes with casual. NFL or NBA shorts, tank tops, etc., along with Nike, etc. belong in the gym. I think that type of dress is what is spoiling true business or country club casual for everyone. I have also seen concierges request people to change, especially on formal night. Many concierges mention specific dress requests in their welcome aboard letter left in the cabin. I have always understood that the diamond or concierge lounge follows the MDR dress suggestions.

Oh my, another friend... SHOCKING...

We pay for our cruise in a Suite.... we wear nice clothes... How does that affect others? Some seem to have a problem with our dress??

Of course others may have a problem with your dress when it goes against the requested dress code! Why would they not? They comply, and you don't. It's noticed, and not in a good way. But I find it's actually pretty easy to deal with people who are inappropriately dressed for the venue, be it MDR, CL/Suite Lounge, DL, or specialty restaurant. We can either leave the venue for one with a better view, or try to change our seats so we don't have to see the hairy legs, stubby toenails in sandals, or (God forbid!) the view up the shorts when the guy spreads his legs or puts one foot up on the opposite knee.

I get it that you have issues with dress codes, your shorts are 'nice', you've googled for proof of proper Caribbean attire, and you feel you are special because you pay for a suite; thus you don't need to observe dress codes. And I know you think you look good in your 'nice' shorts and your nice T shirt. You've offered up Google as proof that these duds are appropriate Caribbean attire. (You actually deserve a lot of credit for trying very hard to make your case here.) And I'm sure you would look just fine in the Schooner Bar, the Pub, Bolero's, the Solarium Bar, the Pool Bar, etc. You'd look just fine in lots of bars. But your dress is not in keeping with the requested evening attire in the CL/Suite Lounge. And many of us who also pay for suites (but don't necessarily talk about it in every other post here on CC) DO observe the requested dress code in the lounge. It's not a big deal.

It seems that you have no tolerance for anyone who disagrees with you about your shorts and you seem to be trying to collect votes approving your anti-lounge standards attire??? You're 'googling' to make your case for Caribbean Casual??? Oh my, that's serious! Just be aware that while you may THINK you look wonderful in your shorts in the lounge, your fellow cruisers' mileage may vary, you may become the butt of many jokes behind your back, and the number of votes you collect here is immaterial.:p (This kind of humor happens more often in the CL/Suite Lounge than in the DL in my experience, and some of the stuff I've heard over the years is pretty darn funny!)

Some of us think of these opportunities as additional free entertainment. (And on some cruises it's VERY entertaining indeed!) But, hey! I also get that your objective is to get attention, and wearing shorts inappropriately to venues that ask folks not to wear shorts onboard will definitely get you some attention, so you achieve your objective. And many of us in the lounge get to have fun at your expense, so we get entertainment. Everybody wins.

Case in point - in 2012 on Navigator's Mardi Gras cruise out of NOLA there was a guy in the CL who wore shorts the first 4 or 5 evenings. (SMALL old interior CL on Nav at that time - hard to change seats!) He happened to be in the OS next to ours, so we saw him frequently in the corridor as well as in the CL. The shorts were mostly well pressed linen shorts, so I guess you could say they were 'nice' shorts. One night they were way way way too short. He was very hairy. In the CL, there was often quite a VIEW since he habitually sat with one foot on the opposite knee with his thighs spread apart. I can testify to the fact that he wore boxers, not tidy whities.:o I could have given him a DIY colonoscopy without much trouble.:o A number of the ladies in the lounge that week agreed that based on our views, what he had under the hood, so to speak, was not at all worth showing off. We are still in touch with 4 people we met in the CL on that cruise, and we all stilll laugh about that guy and how incredibly silly he looked. That guy and his shorts made that particular cruise an indelible memory for all of us and has bonded us together. So it was all good! (Although I have to report that the Concierge finally spoke to the guy on the 4th or 5th day, after several comments from other guests, and he was kind enough to wear long pants the last 2 nights.)

Thus you should wear whatever you want to the Suite Lounge - you get to flaunt the rules and feel suite-ably entitled as you strut your stuff in shorts, you get the attention you want, and the rest of us get to make fun of you behind your back, bond, and have a few laughs - it's a win/win for all of us. Just saying....

Hum???? What are you trying to say?

We wear Smart Casual as for the Climate we are in. It is appropriate. Google it.

If we are asked to leave because we wear Smart Casual shorts, we will leave without incident.

I don't understand what issue you have? Are you and others trying to make and issue of what some may wear in the CL?

Not correct! Smart Casual on RCI has always been a suit.

Why do you thank people that tell you want to hear and bicker with those that don't? [emoji6]

Obviously, because anyone who disagrees with him needs to have their minds made right.

It is an endless crusade until everyone agrees with a single point of view. Like that could ever happen.:rolleyes::D

Some people like to have confrontations. As I've been able to tell.

How Google decides what Royal Caribbean does is beyond me. But if it makes up your mind in your favor, I guess that makes it ok....

Now just where did you get that?

If you are requested to wear a Suit on Smart Casual days, what do you think the attire would be for Formal Nights?

A tuxedo of course!

Look it up! There is a minor mix of sarcasm in my original post, but indeed, that's the way it used to be at RCI.

If you do a Google search for RCI smart casual you will find suit or sport coat and tie. Who knows when it changed, but RCI dumbed down both, Formal and smart casual.

And that is why many of us have him on "ignore". ;)

He just like to stir that pot.

John, I still like you (and adore those pics of Bella!)...and of course agree! :)

Mmm...let me see....how original can we get:

-Smoking

-Chair hogs

-Dress code in CL/DL and MDR

-Elevator hogs

-Loud/rude behavior

-Uncontrolled/unsupervised children

What else am I missing? :p :p

Oh yeah...CL being taken over by...gasp...lowly D+ and Pinnacles!!

Look, I have always owned up to what I write here.... Just please be accurate if you are going to come down on someone. When I am wrong, I am man enough to apologize. I don't appreciate some mis-characterizations you have implied.

Smoking - yes, I am against Smoking in the Casino and in ones cabin and balcony. This DOES affect our cruise.

Chair Hogs - I am not sure I EVER made a comment. Have NEVER had a issue.

Dress Code in DL/SL/CL or MDR. - different places. I have stated we DO NOT wear shorts in MDR. We follow the requested wear. We eat in our rooms on Formal night. The CL, I have stated, if the Concierge were to ask us to leave, we would do so, without objection. My neck and phone has a creek in it trying to look up my shorts. Not possible on mine. We get pedicures so no gross toes....More modern discussion for those that are more modern, accept certain types of shorts as Smart Casual. We never expose our toes in the CL/SL. When we go to MDR, for me that means a pair of pants, and collared shirt. I always said that. HOWEVER, I don't let what others wear to bother my CRUISE EXPERIENCE nor do we harbor it to discuss and make fun of later.

Elevator Hogs - don't believe I have ever expressed an opinion one way or the other. NEVER been and issue for us.

Loud/Rude Behavior - YOU WILL NOT SEE THIS FROM US. If you did, please let us know. But we have seen LOUD MOUTHS in the CL/SL.

Uncontrolled/unsupervised children - My kids are grown and I am very proud of them. One is a Gentleman and the other a Lady. We took them everywhere with us and they were always WELL BEHAVED. Not ONCE was I embarrassed by their behavior. Sorry if you feel Children are a problem on Cruises. How about those that bring their Dog?

The DL and CL/SL - as far as the DL goes, it is not an issue with over crowding. But we do book Suites. With the exception of Pinnicales, the CL/SL should seat Suite Guest over D and D+. This is a perk we paid for. If you are in a Suite, then welcome to you.

I believe you get what you pay for. If that is a problem then so be it.

That post was directed at common and very well known hot button threads

through the history of CC that are repeated over and over through the years

by many...many members of the community.

Not directed at a specific person.

Some just happen to be the type that like to hit various hot buttons.

Not all hot buttons...but enough to cause dissent among the ranks. ;)

Some get more ruffled than others.

It occurs to me, as I read these posts, that there are certain things that some people just HAVE and others just don't have. Things like manners...social awareness...social appropriateness...respect for others and the feelings of others...respect for one's 'host' and the expectations of the host in various situations...respect for a dress code...etc.

No amount of discourse on CC will change a HAVE NOT into a HAVE, so it's truly a moot point and not really worthy of further debate.

I agree with Island Lady...time to move on to more important stuff than Troy and his dissertation on fine shorts...like chair hogs...;)

My advice, based on my experience, is to read the welcome letter from the Concierge. It should be on your bed or desk when you board.

Follow the rules, try and be pleasant, and you might just find little gifts from your Concierge.

Thanks John, ALWAYS PLEASANT to the Concierge and Bartender in the CL/SL. Yes, our instructions are in our room when we board.

Here is what they say...

We respectfully request that guests observe a Smart Casual dress code when visiting the Lounge (no swim or pool attire is allowed, footwear is required at all times).

We dress according to these requests.....

Google appropriate Smart Casual wear...

Like I have said, if the Concierge mentions it, as a problem, we would gladly leave... I feel our shorts are no more different than Sports or Workout pants... look at top Cruiser on Harmony... same pants worn in CL on Enchantment.

Yes, chicken wings. Laura made a passing comment that she had not seen wings yet, the Concierge apologized and said she must have missed them a few days ago. Voila, about 50 wings delivered the next day.

Sooo cool! Very sweet of your concierge.

How does petite little Laura stay so petite with her chicken wing cravings??!! ;)

Bucky loves the "stinky cheese"....AKA blue cheese. Our concierge always makes sure

he can find some there. :) Bertie was pretty good about it. Will miss Bertie. :(

We always preferred the DL versus the CL for the view and extra room.

Nice.... we had Chicken Wings one night in the CL on EN and they were ok as far as Finger foods go. No complaints there...

Tasted the same in Smart Casual Shorts or pants... LOL In 19 days we are going on 11 day with friends and none have packed a Suit.... OMG!!! Will some get heartburn??

I show up in shorts every morning in the Diamond lounge. Usually dressed for the early morning stand-up surfing, i.e. Board shorts and rash guard, usually, long sleeve, and flip flops (actually Mions), when the concierge is in the DL I am always greeted with a welcoming smile.

Of course, after 5PM I am always dressed with pants not shorts.

And I bet you look very dapper indeed! :)

The very first time we turned diamond, we excitedly walked into the

Diamond Lounge during happy hour on the first night....in shorts much to our

faux pas...and were discreetly asked to return dressed to code.

We returned properly dressed for evening cocktails before dinner.

Not something you forget and was never repeated.

Every ship is different I guess. :o

Stop with the Google, doesn't apply until Google starts operating cruise ships. ;)

I think I have an Enchantment letter somewhere. Here is Freedom from March 2016. Saw pretty much the same verbage in August, except they were allowing guests under the age of 21 in the lounge with adult supervision. Now that's a fun discussion.
