Diamond Lounge

And I bet you look very dapper indeed! :)

The very first time we turned diamond, we excitedly walked into the

Diamond Lounge during happy hour on the first night....in shorts much to our

faux pas...and were discreetly asked to return dressed to code.

We returned properly dressed for evening cocktails before dinner.

Not something you forget and was never repeated.

WHO ASKED YOU TO LEAVE? The concierge or a Diamond Member?

Every ship is different I guess. :o

Stop with the Google, doesn't apply until Google starts operating cruise ships. ;)

I think I have an Enchantment letter somewhere. Here is Freedom from March 2016. Saw pretty much the same verbage in August, except they were allowing guests under the age of 21 in the lounge with adult supervision. Now that's a fun discussion.

This is not what ours said...

I wish I could post it here... I can copy as I did before... I agree with footwear and shorts that expose, a terrible feet... they are gross...

We respectfully request that guests observe a Smart Casual dress code when visiting the Lounge (no swim or pool attire is allowed, footwear is required at all times).

Says Smart Casual... google Smart Casual Caribbean or Warm Climates...

Why do you keep thinking it is Diamond members enforcing the rules.

That is an odd mindset.

Now it could be that a Diamond member asked the Concierge to enforce the rules, but I have no knowledge of that happening. Most folks just talk loud behind your back. ;)

That was bad, sorry.

No need to apologize, you just told the truth!

I am giggling at the idea of the Diamond Dress Code Police. In all the years we've had access to lounges, I've seen the Concierge speak to guests about inappropriate dress many times. I've seen people turned away at the door by the Concierge in the evening because of shorts or flip flops or ball caps or otherwise inappropriate attire. Never have seen another guest do it, though, regardless of their C&A level.

I do love it when the Concierge sends us goodies - for us it's those little canapés with the caviar on top. Yummy! We got 2 deliveries of those one time on Voyager, in addition to the normal suite goodies. Israel Sanchez was the Concierge at that time, and he was great. I do think most of the concierges have a tendency to reward people who follow the rules, though. (Basic B.F. Skinner - reinforcement has a powerful impact on behavior.)

And don't you think that we also get rewarded for appropriate dress in the Suite Lounge/CL/DL by invites to dine at the Captain's Table? Each time that's happened for us it's been the Concierge who asked us if we'd like to dine with the Captain. Bryon on Jewel told me that there is a little list of criteria for selecting dinner guests for the Captain's Table, and dress is a major one.

So dress well if you want to dine with the Captain or the senior officers at the big table. If you don't care about that, then don't worry about respecting the dress code. But be aware that the Captain's table has a different menu than everyone else in the MDR, and, in my opinion, it's definitely the best meal in the MDR!:D

On every ship that we have been on in the past couple of years there have been people in the CL or DL in shorts and I have never seen them turned away. As a matter of fact I don't have the letters but a couple of them did not mention anything about shorts one way or another. I thought that was odd as most of the time they did mention no shorts allowed.

I thought I had a letter that said no shorts on formal night, but I can't find it. The letter seems to change monthly in some way or another. I'll have to scan in the last one. Not short related but says something like take a drink to dinner but don't constantly take drinks out of the lounge. i thought that was a nice touch.

Now that you mention it that sounds familiar about the no shorts on formal night. Which translated sounds like shorts are okay any other nights

Love the "B.F. Skinner" reference!

Maybe the Concierges could go all Skinner on us the way Sherman modifies Penny's behavior on Big Bang Theory!!

I can see it now...the Concierge standing at the door of the lounge with a big box of chocolates...or those little chicken wings...:p:D;)

I have tried to send you the letter we received on EN but your email doesn't allow it.

I will have one soon from SOS, probably next week... This is a 11 day cruise...

We have not tried to gain access to the DL....

When have I suggested it was a Diamond Member? NEVER have I suggested that. We are both D but choose not to go to DL.

John, please don't put words into my writings.... I asked you who asked you to leave... I was just curious...

Why are you so sensitive....????

This ring a bell, you've asked it twice now.

I believe you have insinuated that it could have been a Diamond member.

I'm not sensitive at all, other people rarely affect my experience.

Also, FWIW, I've never questioned your letter from the Concierge. I have no doubt that on some ships and some sailings there is no mention of a shorts ban in the lounge.

When have I suggested it was a Diamond Member? Ummm....that would be in your previous post from 2:00pm today.

NEVER have I suggested that. REALLY???? You never suggested that? (Don't take my word for it, you can see your post quoted in all its glory below.)

We are both D but choose not to go to DL. (I need to remember this.:p)

John, please don't put words into my writings.... I asked you who asked you to leave... I was just curious...

Yeah, well...except that you didn't actually ask John. You asked Island Lady whether the Concierge or a Diamond Member asked her to leave.

And she told you it was the Concierge.

AND...John used YOUR words. (You know, the ones you wrote. You typed them on your keyboard. At 2:00pm today.)

Why are you so sensitive....????

Huh? Why do you think John is "so sensitive?" I think Reading Comprehension is John's friend.

My question to you would be...Why can't you remember what you posted a couple of hours ago? (see your post below)

"WHO ASKED YOU TO LEAVE? The concierge or a Diamond Member?

(Just FYI...Island Lady answered your question one minute after you posted it. She told you it was the Concierge.

How is it that John is responsible? Or sensitive? He's factual.)

Oh Troy! I sure do wish I had some of whatever you've been smokin'! Seems to be impairing your SHORT term memory. (pun intended) ;):p:rolleyes:

Actually he asked me yesterday around the same time by coincidence. ;)

Who asked you to leave the DL? Were they Smart Casual shorts?

You know, if one googles Smart Casual, it does include shorts of certain types.... and includes Tee Shirts, of certain types... Smart Casual outside of an office environment is often dictated by Climate.

I think this is when Google entered the fray.

You know the bottom line is every ship, every sailing is potentially different.

Ran across my letter from Brilliance last Thanksgiving. No mention of shorts, just Smart Casual.

That's actually kind of unfortunate since folks may or may not know how to pack. As I said earlier, I find the rules on minors in the lounge much more topical than shorts.

That very letter from Brilliance banned those under 18 during the cocktail hour.

I think we need to start a whole new thread posting the welcome letters. :o

Ran across my letter from Brilliance last Thanksgiving. No mention of shorts, just Smart Casual. Yeah, but for most of us 'Smart Casual' means khakis or slacks, or even starched jeans, and a short sleeved shirt. Or a long sleeved shirt. Or a Guayabera shirt. It doesn't mean shorts. Shorts is 'beach' casual not 'smart' casual. And (sorry if this is sexist - I'm OLD!) while women can look quite elegant and sexy in a pair of dressy shorts, a short skirt, or hot pants, I'm sorry...men can never look elegant or sexy in shorts. They just look like dudes with hairy legs in short pants. They look sporty. (It makes me want to show them where the playground or the sports court is.) And sometimes the shoes and socks, or sandals, are weird, which, of course, you really NOTICE since the pants are short. It's just not a good look for guys in the CL or DL.

It's an esthetic thing for me - most males over the age of 8 are simply neither particularly attractive nor sexy in short pants. I just like a more attractive visual ambience in the CL than guys in shorts, and I'll always find a way not to have to look at that!

Some guys are clueless about this fact, but many guys actually do get it.

A thread posting the welcome letters? Now that's an interesting idea!

Ok, I stand corrected.... I went back and looked and on post #52 I just asked who asked you to leave. I do see in a much later post, around #112, I did ask if it was a Diamond Member.

I was still curious who asked you to leave.

This is from another popular site.....

Royal Caribbean features three different types of dress codes in the evening, although two of the three seem to overlap: Casual, Smart Casual and Formal. Most evenings the dress code remains Casual or Smart Casual. For the main dining room, gentlemen will feel most comfortable in casual slacks (Dockers, khaki's) – you could get away with a nice pair of jeans, however. Wearing a pair of nice shorts (pressed, longer in length) is not entirely inappropriate with proper footwear; however, you are likely to be in the minority. A polo / sports shirt or a button-down shirt is appropriate. For the ladies, casual dresses, casual skirts or pants and blouses, summer dresses, Capri pants, dress shorts and tasteful jeans (no rips, cut-offs, acid washed, etc.) are all appropriate.

Look, I can't believe so many would concentrate on my legs and if they can find a look up mine or SO shorts. I tell you right now, YOU CAN'T.

We wear appropriate shoes and socks, no sandals for flip flops.

I am sorry if you let it ruin your cruise, it doesn't bother us one bit what others wear or how they act or talk in the CL/SL. Sorry again it bothers you.

WE DON'T GO INTO THE MDR in SHORTS, the lounge yes. I saw no formal night on our last cruise or anyone in the CL that was dress formal or even in a tie. I even saw the top cruiser in work out pants by Nike or Under-armor.

People just come up with so many things to complain about on a cruise. We enjoy ours. I do complain about SMOKING in the CASINO. This does affect our cruise, but what one wears has nothing to do with us.

I wore either a Uniform or Suit for 40 years.... wearing shorts in a hot climate is something we enjoy.

Pretty sure I answered, if not, it was Bertie the Concierge. In the later post I think you were asking Pat (Island Lady) the same question.
