NCLNewbie90 Posted December 5, 2016 #1 Share Posted December 5, 2016 Hi guys, Carnival cruiser here looking to book my first cruise on RCCL on the Allure. Every carnival cruise I was allowed to wear nice shorts and shirt in the MDR. Formal nights I would wear khaki pants or nice jeans. I was reading that RCCL doesn't allow shorts at all in the MDR. Is this strictly enforced or can I put on a nice pair of shorts and shoes? I know this may be pushing it but I also wore flip flops every night in the MDR as well on Carnival. Would I get turned away for these things? Thanks.

Clarea Posted December 5, 2016 #3 Share Posted December 5, 2016 RC specifically asks for no shorts in the MDR at dinner. They may or may not enforce that.

FunCruiser56 Posted December 5, 2016 #7 Share Posted December 5, 2016 You will probably be asked to put on long pants for the MDR, if you want to wear shorts then there are other dining venues that woud be fine with shorts. Flip flops is really pushing it. Bill Sent from my SM-G935V using Forums mobile app

Clarea Posted December 5, 2016 #11 Share Posted December 5, 2016 Would the buffet be the only other venue that will accept shorts? Park Cafe, Sorrento's, Wipeout Cafe, Johnny Rockets, Boardwalk Doghouse would probably have no problem with shorts.
squiffynimrod Posted December 5, 2016 #12 Share Posted December 5, 2016 While the shorts issue is important, what we really want to know is how you feel about disconecting the shower head from its hose.

IWORK2CRUISE Posted December 5, 2016 #14 Share Posted December 5, 2016 Shorts should not be worn in the MDR or specialty restaurants for dinner. If you prefer to remain casual (many do) you may visit the Windjammer, Johnny Rockets and Sorrentos, etc.

racerxspeedy Posted December 5, 2016 #16 Share Posted December 5, 2016 You can do the same thing on the Allure. There was no long pant enforcement on Allure or Oasis when we cruised, but other ships seem to randomly enforce the "suggestion". Only long pants on Jewel this week. wolfatlga Posted December 5, 2016 #19 Share Posted December 5, 2016 Greetings, As previously stated, it's your vacation, on casual dress nights we have worn nice dress shorts and sandals. We did dress in long pants for the formal nights. These were Caribbean cruises we were one and we find the temperature to be very warm. Enjoy your cruise. rbschultz Posted December 5, 2016 #20 Share Posted December 5, 2016 As others have said there are varying viewpoints on the matter. Personally "casual" nights to my family means Khakis and polo/button down shirt. Formal to us means suits. Every cruise we see the outliers of course wearing jeans and a t-shirt at formal night and those people are of the extreme minority.

Bob Off topic but just where is the Park Cafe located on Allure? I have looked at the deck plans looking for the Park Cafe, just can't seem to find the location. Sailing on her next month and we loved the Park Cafe on Serenade. Thank you Edited December 5, 2016 by troykahack

If you prefer to remain casual (many do) you may visit the Windjammer, Johnny Rockets and Sorrentos, etc. We were welcomed in Chops on Enchantment Sep/Oct. We were headed to WJ and Chops Waiters were there. They were promoting BOGO that night. I said but we have shorts on. They said it didn't matter and escorted us to Chops for dinner. We have worn shorts in Speciality Restaurants several times in shorts. These all were promoting a particular Speciality Restaurant while we were in line for other venues. We don't wear shorts into the MDR except for possible lunch.

Kudos2Fly Posted December 5, 2016 #25 Share Posted December 5, 2016 I have seen people wear shorts in the MDR in every cruise I have been on. Including Holland America. As long as they are clean and nice looking you should be fine. I did see once someone get turn away in the MDR on Carnival for wearing a tank top. Although my personal opinion is we don't wear shorts in the specialty restaurants. Because we are paying for a "special" meal and want to dress up. We don't go to 5 star restaurants in shorts at home either. Although we did do the hamburger place on Royal in the after noon and of course we had shorts on. But I wan't paying $30 dollars pp either. The only thing that will happen is they consider you "under dress" and turn you away. :)
