Rare ronrick1943 Posted January 18, 2017 #26 Share Posted January 18, 2017 I agree, you should do what you feel is right for you and what you'd enjoy not anyone else. We've cruised on "O" 8 times----just want a change so we tried SilverSeas, good but not what we were looking for-so we're going to try Regent a sister company of "O". We've booked 2 cruises on them. So we'll see what happens, I sure we'll be back on "O" because we like the two larger ships. Enjoy your cruise, Rick
Glenndale Posted January 19, 2017 #27 Share Posted January 19, 2017 JMOLike I said WHO REALLY CARES why people cancel their cruise I would care if I was paying your way but I am not so people have to do what works for them It is silly to worry about what others think of you cancelling a cruise or defecting to another line etc... There is no perfect cruise line that works for all So true, why advertise the fact that you've cancelled a cruise on a cruise line that you've never experienced, because of others opinions? The only opinion that matters to me is my own and whilst we all seek others views, the only way is to try a line for yourself.
Pet Nit Noy Posted January 19, 2017 #28 Share Posted January 19, 2017 (edited) Spursgirl wanted to let people know why we had cancelled our O cruise, especially as we have been having conversations with some O cruisers who had been very helpful to us and may possibly care that we had cancelled our cruise. Showing so little respect for other people and their posts is hopefully not typical of most O cruisers. Let's get real. Words have meaning. Writing phrases like " serious crime" and cute-challenges for people to flame you are not neutral phrases. The pertinent information could have been posted without those confrontational phrases. It's really unfortunate when posters say something in a needlessly inflammatory way and, then, criticize posters who react to the original provocation. I really meant everything I said in post #1. I am happy that you've made a decision that pleases you. Your choice has no impact on my own decision-making. And you wrote your post in a way that was unnecessarily provocative despite your Spursgirl and your protests that your post was only informative. pete_coach Posted January 19, 2017 #31 Share Posted January 19, 2017 It took me a few minutes to figure out what you were trying to say at the beginning of your post. I think I've figured it out - you were procrastinating, not prevaricating, for about two months. If it was the latter, than I'm not sure we can take anything you've said in the rest of your post as gospel. :p While the noun prevarication is mostly just a fancy way to say "lie," it can also mean skirting around the truth, being vague about the truth, or even delaying giving someone an answer, especially to avoid telling them the whole truth. https://www.vocabulary.com/dictionary/prevarication The word can be used in her context. pete_coach Posted January 19, 2017 #32 Share Posted January 19, 2017 gosh from the subject line I thought the OP stole something like when people took towels from hotel rooms In her context, the title fits, It is how you read it, not how she wrote it "I think that those of you who post on this board regularly will consider that we have committed a serious crime." And it seems some have. :)

Lottie A Posted January 19, 2017 #36 Share Posted January 19, 2017 This whole exchange should convince Spursgirl never to try Oceania ... which I assume is not what anyone intended. Mura, you are completely correct, and as usual you post a sensible reply. As Spursgirl said, some O posters here have absolutely no sense of humour at all and what was meant to be a little joke from her has been completely taken out of context. Pete_coach and Durante are also correct in their interpretation of some of the replies. Never mind, we are returning to the good humour, politeness and fun of the Azamara board. Having cruised with Oceania, I do know that there are some lovely people onboard the ships, but anyone reading this thread would have real doubts about that, just from reading some of the unnecessarily rude posts here. Enjoy your future Oceania cruises everyone. I know we will enjoy our future Azamara cruises.
wally_bushy Posted January 19, 2017 #37 Share Posted January 19, 2017 I have a good laugh when reading these types of threads. If I read it correctly the main point from the OP is that the night life may be dull. It well may be the case and if that is the reason for cancelling for this person then that is their reason. No cruise line/ship can provide everything to everybody as tastes are different Think of the variations Food quality Cabin Size/Quality Itinerary Ship size Night life Casino Smoking Inclusions Crew Price ...and there are obviously more Tick off your priorities and see if the cruise is right for you. If someone doesn't cruise because the night life is dull and that is their greatest priority, then that is their rationale.
Dhsamso Posted January 20, 2017 #38 Share Posted January 20, 2017 Spursgirl and Lottie A, I enjoyed your comments on your recent Viking cruise (We will be going on the Viking Sea soon so I hope it stays fixed) and did not mind your shout outs to Azamara. As said above, everybody has their own priorities on a cruise. Both Oceania and Viking Oceans pull in the sidewalks earlier than some other lines. But though this thread should just die, I do not see why you posted anything on the Oceania boards either as a joke or seriously. It is not that good a joke and I like British humor. Chewbecca Posted January 20, 2017 #41 Share Posted January 20, 2017 We've sailed both lines & found little life after the show on either to be honest. Which is fine by us but I'm surprised at that being the reason for the switch.. Also Marina's passenger capacity is significantly more than Az which should increase numbers in the bar if that's important. We will happily sail with both lines again, depending on time, itinerary & price but if all else was equal I'd choose O's marina because of (significantly) better rooms, better MDR food & included speciality restaurants. Rare LHT28 Posted January 20, 2017 #42 Share Posted January 20, 2017 Just an observation People become comfortable with one cruise line because things become familiar to them when they go to a different line things will not be the same or they compare to their familiar experiences then be disappointed ...it is human nature It is like going to your favourite restaurant the staff/manager get to know you & you them ... you become like best friends some find this with their favourite cruise line as well There is nothing wrong with this as you are paying $$ to feel good with your choices Just my opinion

My partner works for a luxury cruise line and I am frequently cruising with him. I enjoy trying other cruise lines so it isn't that I am only comfortable with Azamara...I just happen to feel they are the best fit for us and this has certainly been reinforced by some of the replies on this thread. It helped me decide what Chef's table we will try for (I had read that the Asian menu was not good but now I see there are 2 different ones with the one better than the other. I liked the concept and must say the wine pairings on the Silver Package were very good. It is quite a small amount of food though....perhaps this could be one of the days when you partake of afternoon tea in The Winter Garden? :) Viking will certainly be one of my cruise choices from now on. Sea is a beautiful ship with really up to date technology, including excellent inbuilt hand sanitisers, much better than the sticky gels squirted on your hands on most ships and a heated bathroom floor that comes on when you put your key card in the door. It's just luxury on a winter cruise. :)

Spursgirl Posted January 21, 2017 Author #49 Share Posted January 21, 2017 Enjoy your cruise. I have never been on Azmara but would like to hear your opinion when you get back We have cruised with Azamara many times and have always found it a lovely experience. As I cancelled my Marina cruise I am unable to compare it with Oceania, but I think Oceania's food may be a little better though Azamara's is pretty good. I particularly enjoy the long days in port, meeting my fellow passengers who tend to be well travelled and friendly and socialising in a convivial atmosphere. The officers and crew are superb, and do everything possible to ensure their guests' have the best cruise possible. If you enjoy small ship cruising you might like it too. TrulyBlonde Posted January 21, 2017 #50 Share Posted January 21, 2017 Is it just me, or is this starting to sound like a marketing ad for Azamara? I have booked a Viking Ocean cruise for 2018 and the same style marketing seems to apply to that Board from the same 2 posters. I have cruised with AZ two times, 2nd time was a terrible experience. For us personally, O has always delivered. We have booked another AZ cruise, only because it had an itinerary that ticked off all of our wants for ports and since they have done a much needed refurb, we will give them another try, but hesitantly. We cruise many lines and I am anticipating Viking Ocean will also meet our expectations. After our AZ cruise this May, I will do a review on the AZ board but certainly have no desire to promote another cruise line on O board or Viking board. These ladies seem lovely, but most people come on here to read about Oceania and not AZ.
