This is the one point where I disagree.

Puerto Rico has a lot of great places for dinner. In particular I recommend Barrachina - the birthplace of the Pina Colada (yes, there is some controversy here, but I am in the Barrachina camp).

We've done this cruise a couple of times and are looking forward to doing it again in April.

Thanks for posting.

Mike

Hello Mike, We've been to PR many times, never knew about this restaurant! Could you tell me where it is located? Thank for the help.

If that's the word, it's not unique to that state.

I hear it in the Midwest too.

Yep, that's the word. I grew up in Mass and also lived in Illinois, New Jersey, California and Oregon (and traveled all over), never heard it except by native New England speakers.

But now I see "ricruiser" should have been a clue to Rhode Island.

I am curious as to what else you call your hamburgs? also , it was my name that I figured gave you the clue to where I live

Didn't notice your name until after you said you were from Rhode Island.

People most places call them hamburgers or burgers. Believe me, I was made fun of a lot when I moved and called them hamburgs ("what is that? A hat??")

You just made me nostalgic for my childhood, is all. Thanks.

Wow, good catch! I speak Rhode-Island-ese and never noticed the hamburgs!

Now "bubbla" "grinda" and "gaggas (gaggers)" I know!

I miss that tiny little state,

how about the bubblers, cabinets ,hot wieners, eclipse coffee syrup and of course Del's lemonade!!!

also to Janetz, I am not a coffee drinker so I do not know what time they brew the coffee. You could probably call Celebrity and they can tell you

Re coffee station in Hideaway: On the Silhouette Jan. 22 and enjoyed that station and quiet area for reading. However, was disappointed on our last at sea day to go there later in the afternoon and discover the coffee/tea dispensers had been removed. That was my only time there at that time of day so I don't know if that is the daily custom or just because it was last day of cruise. At any rate, did really appreciate the convenience otherwise. (Slaked my thirst by bellying up to the bar at Cafe al Bacio and indulging in an affogato. Yummo.)

Can you just stop in for a pina colada? We always have dinner at the Lawn Club on PR nights, and we can't break tradition.....but I would love to have a drink there!

Yes, absolutely! Here's a link to their website.

http://www.barrachina.com/

Download their app and get a free pina colada. They have a nice (enough) bar in the center courtyard. It's my "go to" for San Juan stops. The Puerto Rican appetizer is good, too... a variety of things that go great with drinks.

Address:

104 Calle Fortaleza

It's not far from the dock but it IS uphill.

We were on the Silhouette on Thanksgiving week and unfortunately the Hideaway became the hangout for all the kids...so VERY noisey and a place to avoid.

On our cruise on the Reflection, it was the hangout place for children in the late afternoon and evening. It was not enjoyable and we also left. There were much better places to relax.

Thanks for the review. Will be on this route March. Did you like Ralph Harris? I thought he was hilarious. Also, did you visit the casino and how was it? I am hoping to stay out of the casino but it doesn't ever seem to work.

We were also on this cruise and loved it. Ralph Harris is hilarious - laughed so hard we were crying. We did well in the casino but did not like the continuous-shuffle black jack decks. The Liar show was a riot - impressed that the captain got involved. Loved San Juan. Glad we are going back so can see more of it. I was very impressed with the ornate iron work of the balconies and colors of the buildings. Next time will stop in for the pina coladas.

I will be going on my Celebrity cruise on the Silhouette.

I am looking at the Speciality Dining packages. Can you purchase the package on board? Or, you can only pre order the package?

Did they offer any discounted speciality dinners while on board?

Great, thanks for this and the address as well! We also just returned from this Silhouette sailing but heading back out on the Reflection in March and this is officially on my 'what to do in PR' list!!

You can usually purchase the dining package on board. Be aware that there are often a maximum number of packages available.

There are usually discounted Specialty Restaurant dinners, especially on the first night. However, on one of our cruises, there were no discounts available on any night. Supply and demand laws at work, I guess. Book early if you have a set time in mind. Otherwise, you may only have a choice of 6 or 9 pm.

Do they still have live bands on pool decks and in various locations on the ship. Like a house band?

Also, are there still a variety of food items available near the sunset bar? That was a great way to spend a couple of hours back there with some drinks and sushi.

Thanks

upstairs at the pool, most afternoons there was a band either playing or singing for a while. I think this may only be on sea days. Usually starting around 1PM there were some pool games, like volleyball, or dance lessons, then the band came on.

We never made it to the sunset bar, so sorry can not answer that part of the question.
