rolloman Posted March 15, 2017 #51 Share Posted March 15, 2017 I would like to see this happen however I am skeptical because it will cut into revenue they are generating now that they charge for room service.
ALSEAU Posted March 15, 2017 #52 Share Posted March 15, 2017 Midnight buffets...biggest waste of food ever....K.O. The old time Midnight Buffet extravaganza was a great waste food. It was designed more for a photo opportunity to showcase the artistic talents of the chefs and not related to providing for a late night snack. There was never any hot dogs, hamburgers, tacos, french fries or chicken wings. I agree with others that snack food in the WJ until Midnight would be appreciated. Especially on the big ships (Oasis & Quantum class)
ALSEAU Posted March 15, 2017 #53 Share Posted March 15, 2017 I would like to see this happen however I am skeptical because it will cut into revenue they are generating now that they charge for room service. I don't believe this is being done as a revenue generator. I believe it is being done to discourage people from requesting this personalize service that is made on a whim. Beside passengers who really want this service there are others that abuse it. Example: Order room service before going to their room and not being there when the food is delivered. Ordering service and loosing appetite/interest by the time the food is delivered Not knowing the facts that drive the cruise lines decision it is impossible to define their motivation. I do know in our business rather than eliminate a service or product we would try to price our way out of it.
Rare mac_tlc Posted March 15, 2017 #54 Share Posted March 15, 2017 This would be a great idea. I always thought it was strange that they would have movie nightly by the pool at 9 or 10PM, but the Windjammer is closed. Not very convenient to go back down to deck 5 to the Cafe Promenade then back up to deck 13 or 14. mac_tlc
rickdent Posted March 15, 2017 #55 Share Posted March 15, 2017 Yes. I would be very happy with a reduced selection of offerings later into the evening. We are not even night owls, but often enjoy a snack or 2nd dessert later in the evening. Definitely agree!
Mustang2015 Posted March 16, 2017 #56 Share Posted March 16, 2017 I agree there should be some more offerings then the bad pizza and OK sandwiches late night. That is one thing we found on carnival breeze better selection of food after 9. It seems there is a common theme about the pizza, why can't they make changes to that, worst pizza I have ever had was on rcl. Pizza is not that hard to mess up. However last cruise badirector pizza was my only complaint.:D

ThirstyCruiser Posted March 16, 2017 #59 Share Posted March 16, 2017 Who wouldn't answer yes? Perhaps a better question is Who would like to see late evening hours in Windjammer, and how much of an increase in your cruise fare would you feel is appropriate? Don't forget to up the Daily Grats, there's a whole 'nother shift of people.
bilyclub Posted March 16, 2017 #60 Share Posted March 16, 2017 Yes, they need to do something to make up for the crappy pizza offered.
roysue Posted March 16, 2017 #61 Share Posted March 16, 2017 I would like to add my 2 cents. We started cruising on Princess, then went to Celebrity with a Carnival cruise or 2 thrown in. We liked Celebrity but got drawn to RCI for an itinerary change. We have been on Freedom and Oasis and are trying Adventure later this month. I found the availability of food after 9:30pm to be pretty sad on RCI. Celebrity has a limited selection available in their buffet into the wee hours. They even have fresh pizza available along with salads, veggies, and of course, cookies and other desserts. After this cruise, we will go back to Celebrity, partly due to WJ and it's early closing. We like the idea of a bedtime snack and Sorrentos and Promenade Cafe just don't cut it. Royal Caribbean, I hope you are listening. This seems to be a pretty hot topic. Happy Cruising everyone
MrsPete Posted March 16, 2017 #62 Share Posted March 16, 2017 If this were "a thing", I'd most like to see bar type food -- small food -- things that are good with a drink -- plates that're easy to share: Sliders ... nachos ... fries and onion rings ... fried cheese sticks ... street tacos ... and, of course, wings. Thing is, I think I'm really saying that I'd like a bar with good food, and they already have bars ... but without good food. And drinks aren't the Windjammer's strong point. Different question: How much would you be willing to pay for this ... either through an increased ticket price or a direct cost?
Rare LMaxwell Posted March 16, 2017 Author #63 Share Posted March 16, 2017 I would like to see this happen however I am skeptical because it will cut into revenue they are generating now that they charge for room service. I was just on NCL Escape and they had something like 10:00PM - 12:30AM a small section, think just a corner, of the buffet open. But there were some salads, fresh baked desserts, pizza, hot sandwiches, really good hot wings, etc. It was usually busy, but not super packed. And they still had O'Sheehans 24 hour bar/pub menu at no extra charge. And they have the 7.95 room service menu. So they seem to have found a nice medium. TrojanUSC Posted March 16, 2017 #65 Share Posted March 16, 2017 So, I'm gathering there is no food available on the ships after 9 PM other than room service, which I understand now has a charge? Is this correct? Given you are done dinner? On the Oasis class ships there is Sorrento's (pizza) and Cafe Promenade (pre-made mediocre sandwiches). Room service is your other option. On Quantum they had one Windjammer station open 24 hours which was really nice, especially for those who went out at night.
riclop Posted March 16, 2017 #66 Share Posted March 16, 2017 Other cruise lines usually have their buffets open 10pm-Midnight for late night snacks; a place to get some hot food, quick bites, etc. Not every RCI ship has Cafe Promenade and the buffet selections on competitors, even when limited to one section offers much more than CP. With early dinner it would be nice to have a late night spot after a show and make Royal more in line with competitors. Whatever happened with Quantum-Class that was supposed to have 24 hour WJ? Never happened? Do they still just close down at 9:30PM?? That's a bit early. They will not do it.

Wanna Be Retired Posted March 16, 2017 #68 Share Posted March 16, 2017 Now that they are charging for room service we will all be slipping tater tots in our pants pockets in case we get hungry! Hat tip to Napoleon Dynamite. It's another way to nickel and dime you to death. We always ordered room service for breakfast but last cruise noticed the eggs were worse than the free breakfast at a hotel. They will soon price themselves out of loyal customers. Karter Posted March 16, 2017 #69 Share Posted March 16, 2017 The charter cruises we go on the Windjammer is open until 4:00 A.M. and there is usually a line even at that hour of the morning. One night there was a line of maybe 75 people in line at 3:55 in the morning and the crew was just amazed.
ladyj_46 Posted March 16, 2017 #70 Share Posted March 16, 2017 Excellent topic. I've been know to enjoy a late night snack after the casino. IMO no line does this better than 24 hour o'sheehans on NCL. Table service with food off an actual menu. Seems like an a table service restaurant might even be more efficient than a buffet. Are you listening RCL! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Totally enjoyed O'Sheehans. We had VERY late lunches a couple of days and weren't very hungry at dinner. Several hours later, after shows and drinks, we were hungry. It was a saving grace.
bUU Posted March 16, 2017 #71 Share Posted March 16, 2017 Maybe I missed it somewhere in the middle of this thread but what time does the Windjammer open in the morning? I'm typically asleep by the time they're closing the Windjammer. Yes I'm one of those old people who abide by early to bed early to rise... The biggest issue for me with regard to the cafeteria aboard cruise ships is whether or not I can get that first cup of coffee in the morning when I wake at 4 or 5 o'clock. sky0000547 Posted March 16, 2017 #73 Share Posted March 16, 2017 I wonder can they make better use of Cafe Promenade and Sorrento's when Windjammer shuts for the evening. Like serving fries and hotdogs along side hot pizza in Sorrento's etc?

I've always wondered why they could not offer the roast beef sandwiches in Cafe Promenade on Voyager/Freedom class, sort of merge the current offerings with those of Park Cafe. Cafe Promenade is 24hrs, again depending on ships, should be good for your first cup of coffee.
