Does Wifi Work in Cabins?

Since the cabin walls are metal, I'm assuming that wifi only works in public areas. Am I right?

Yup, works fine in cabins and on balconies. Speed varies.

Most cabins have internet. There are a handful of rooms on some ships which passengers have reported have no, or very low, signal.

It is a hit and miss. It really depends where the wireless routers are.

I've been successful at getting a signal in my stateroom on Equinox. It weakened (and often dropped) however, out on the balcony.

It works in the cabin but not as well as the public areas. Sometimes we need to be right by the door when making a VOIP call.

I've experienced problems in an aft cabin a few times on M class ships. I had to venture into the hallway to enable connection.

I had an aft cabin on the Eclipse earlier this year. I had terrible connectivity. The internet was down more than it was up. I had to go get credited back time from the ilounge. I said, I can't be the only one with this problem. The crew member gave me a funny look like I know what you mean but I can't say anything.

 

When I mentioned my bad internet connection to my cabin attendant, he pointed to the WiFi router on the passageway wall directly across my from door. I had to take my laptop to the ilounge to connect.

I was on the Reflection this January, in a mid-ship cabin, and I was surprised how fast the internet was. It was much faster than last year.

I had unusable internet connectivity inside my hump cabin in the Silhouette in March. I paid for the unlimited internet because I had to do work while on the cruise, but my complaints to IT yielded no help and no offers for refund. At least the signal was strong in the common areas, but I was pretty disappointed to not be able to work in my cabin during the evenings.

Just off the Infinity, aft room (8181), no internet in room or on balcony. We had to go out into hall to get connected. Connection in common areas was very good.

We had a good signal on Silhouette in a mid ship suite but lost the signal on the balcony.

wish they offered cat 5/6 wired connectivity for use with real computers
