CruisinFinsUp Posted November 30, 2017 #1 Share Posted November 30, 2017 Princess just tweeted a nice video showing the fleet by year released, ending with the new ship named Sky Princess!
Tiggerontheseas Posted November 30, 2017 #2 Share Posted November 30, 2017 I'm not surprised. In their poll for naming the ship Sky Princess was pretty much the only decent name on the list. I think they really, really wanted to call it that while at the same time pretending they were leaving it up to us. Heh. :)
Guest arowe6 Posted November 30, 2017 #3 Share Posted November 30, 2017 Does anyone remember the final name selections to vote on? I'm trying to remember what I voted for, but I don't think it was Sky Princess. Thanks, Andrew

Jersey42 Posted November 30, 2017 #6 Share Posted November 30, 2017 Wasn't there a previous ship named Sky in the Princess fleet? The Sitmar Fairsky became the Sky Princess when Princess acquired them in the late 80s. Not sure if this was the first Sky Princess.

Not sure if this was the first Sky Princess. We were very fond of that ship. Cruised on her when she was Sitmar Fairsky and also after she became Sky Princess. :)
nini Posted November 30, 2017 #11 Share Posted November 30, 2017 Too bad- there is the Viking Sky (part of their Ocean fleet).
Rare Coral Posted November 30, 2017 #12 Share Posted November 30, 2017 Too bad- there is the Viking Sky (part of their Ocean fleet). There is also a Star, Ocean, Sun and Sea - all names Princess has used and still the name of some existing ships on Princess's fleet.

Micahs Grandad Posted November 30, 2017 #15 Share Posted November 30, 2017 I voted for Sky Princess. Does this mean I get that free cruise? Yes you will be getting a free cruise, you will just send in a small fee of $ 1500 covering administrative costs per person and you are good to go on a free 3 day cruise. Cabin though is extra.
rkacruiser Posted November 30, 2017 #16 Share Posted November 30, 2017 The Sitmar Fairsky became the Sky Princess when Princess acquired them in the late 80s. Not sure if this was the first Sky Princess. To the best of my knowledge, Sitmar's Fairsky was the first Sky Princess. If my memory is correct, Fairsky, aka Sky Princess, was the last of the cruise ships built that was powered by steam turbines.
Rare Host CJSKIDS Posted November 30, 2017 #17 Share Posted November 30, 2017 Ahhhh. Thank you. I voted for Ocean Princess. I lost. boo! -Andrew That's what I voted for! When I think of the Sky I think of NCL's older small ship that sails down her in Florida.
BJS Posted November 30, 2017 #18 Share Posted November 30, 2017 We were very fond of that ship. Cruised on her when she was Sitmar Fairsky and also after she became Sky Princess. :) Same here....loved the Sitmar Fairwind also. Too bad dining can't go back to like it was in those days...but assume cruise fares would skyrocket if it did.
Guest arowe6 Posted December 1, 2017 #19 Share Posted December 1, 2017 That's what I voted for! When I think of the Sky I think of NCL's older small ship that sails down her in Florida. Same! Plus I thought it would be neat to have some name recognition with the OCEAN Medallion and the OCEAN Princess. Alas... Have fun on the Regal. We embark 12/10. -Andrew :)

john watson Posted December 1, 2017 #25 Share Posted December 1, 2017 The Sitmar Fairsky became the Sky Princess when Princess acquired them in the late 80s. Not sure if this was the first Sky Princess. There was more than one Fairsky and the most interesting was the second. Sitmar Fairsky (2) built in 1941 as a C3 cargo ship was converted into an Escort Aircraft Carrier named USS Barnes. Leased to Britain where she was renamed HMS Attacker. She was returned to the US after surviving the war. In 1952 renamed Castel Forte and converted into cruise liner and eventually run by Sitmar as Fairsky from 1958 to 1977.
