Does anyone remember the final name selections to vote on? I'm trying to remember what I voted for, but I don't think it was Sky Princess.

Thanks,

Andrew

The Sitmar Fairsky became the Sky Princess when Princess acquired them in the late 80s. Not sure if this was the first Sky Princess.

We were very fond of that ship. Cruised on her when she was Sitmar Fairsky and also after she became Sky Princess. :)

To the best of my knowledge, Sitmar's Fairsky was the first Sky Princess. If my memory is correct, Fairsky, aka Sky Princess, was the last of the cruise ships built that was powered by steam turbines.

Same here....loved the Sitmar Fairwind also. Too bad dining can't go back to like it was in those days...but assume cruise fares would skyrocket if it did.

That's what I voted for!

When I think of the Sky I think of NCL's older small ship that sails down her in Florida.

Same! Plus I thought it would be neat to have some name recognition with the OCEAN Medallion and the OCEAN Princess. Alas...

Have fun on the Regal. We embark 12/10.

Not to worry. Another sarcastic yet honest review is still to come. I like to stir up Cruise Critic every once in a while....

Those were the days! My first cruise was on the Fairsky in her inaugural year and sailed on the Fairsea and Fairwind, and the Sky Princess after the merger.

There was more than one Fairsky and the most interesting was the second. Sitmar Fairsky (2) built in 1941 as a C3 cargo ship was converted into an Escort Aircraft Carrier named USS Barnes. Leased to Britain where she was renamed HMS Attacker. She was returned to the US after surviving the war. In 1952 renamed Castel Forte and converted into cruise liner and eventually run by Sitmar as Fairsky from 1958 to 1977.
