Forget the Yacht Club, now there is the CC....

This thread reminds me of a funny incident on my only previous MSC cruise a few years ago which was YC. We got to the first port, I think St. Maarten and we were going to go to the beach. Our butler saw us leave our room and insisted he had to go with us to exit the ship. He packed all our stuff up, carried it, and took us down on the special elevator.

Door opens onto Deck 4, off we go, he starts calling out "Yacht Club, Yacht Club" while butting us to the front of an extremely long line going back down the corridor. We had no idea this would happen. Everyone in line was glaring at us and I can assure you we had our heads down, not noses up. We were so embarrassed. We were just trying to not be recognized!

So ............ ONE person, out of - how many who sail YC? - did this, we're all tarred with it!

One of the things that I liked about the YC (as opposed to the CC) was the fact that the Yacht Club was so discrete. You could hang with the crowd on the main decks or quietly disappear into the out-of-the-way YC whenever you wanted some quiet time. I certainly never noticed anyone acting less than polite and well mannered. The CC sounds interesting...but are you going to offer a loyalty status match program??;p:D

Count me in! Just the thought of having a butler makes me feel awkward! Cc it is!

You and me both ...don't even like not making my own bed and having someone come do it for me :)

Hmmm. Status match- not black or gold. I say Tin. The level is Tin. If you have ever stayed at a Motel 6, Days Inn, or other budget hotel simply send in a photo of the towels you stole and you get MSC status match to Tin. The reward is you get to board last butime you get a standard welcome aboard letter that is already given to everyone anyway. And an invite to eat at the buffet with everyone else. What more could we put with Tin status match with the Canoe Club?

My major consideration in selecting a cabin on board ship is always location, location, location!

After forty plus years of cruising, we know low and amidships is the best location for smooth sailing. I know, blah, blah, blah, new technologies, stabilizers, etc. not a problem. Go ahead and believe that until the first rough seas....

I laugh when I see that the most expensive cabins are often high , and in the case of the Yacht Club or NCL Haven, forward. Besides the problem with motion, there is the wind. Ever notice how those "prime" locations have high plexiglass walls around them to make the usable when under way?

It surely was a marketing genius who somehow figured out the way to make these formerly passenger unfriendly area (used to be for crew) into prime real estate. Same comment for the speciality restaurants that on are high decks. And there is a reason that main dining rooms are usually low (and in many lines, in the center of the ship). It is certainly easier to eat when your table isn't moving about.

Those high fares and dining charges just subsidize the rest of us. :D

Are passengers who have Aurea, Bella, Spa etc. snobs too. What about those who dine only in specialty restaurants, all inclusive drink packages and other upgrades? You have to decide who is eligible for CC.

So a lot of folks spend a lot of time talking about the y.c. I know, it's pretty cool, exclusive, expensive, and frankly sometimes it comes across a bit snobbish. Sorry, a few posts really do, to a point where the poorer rest of us almost feel like we are in stowage class. Like we are 2nd class citizens cause either y.c. is sold out or frankly we don't have the cash or we chose not to spend the cash on the exclusive y.c.

So, for the vast majority of us not in the Yatch Club I have created our own exclusive group called the Canoe Club. Still on the same water, still the same ports, just cheaper and not as fancy. Good food, same scenery, just a poor man's Yatch club called the canoe club. I'll still bring 2 suites for formal nights on the 7 nighters.

That is all. Hope eggs, or grey pupon in the case, aren't hurreled my way.

Honestly.... do you go up to people in cars or houses or even clothes for that matter, which YOU may consider better than yours and accuse them of being snobbish too. It is freedom of choice. Someone may decide to go YC and forgo other trips, purchases or events in order to do so. I find these comments silly

I love cruising and I can be happy on both ‘clubs’.

My last sailing, the YC inside cabin was way cheaper then a fantastica balcony, so there you go: my canoe soul was happy at the opportunity [emoji4]

Totally agree with you.

Just looked at upgrading our Royal Caribbean cruise from an inside to a balcony and the Bellissima Yacht Club is actually cheaper than the RC Balcony. So it’s inside for us with money left over for a fantastica balcony on Preziosa.

Now remind me, which one do I have to hold my nose in the air?

That is exactly why Bella was a perfect choice for us ...not too high up and in the middle of the boat.....I can get sea sick in a bath tub...visiting the upper decks when there is a swell has me feeling terrible with in a short while and that is while taking Phenergan the whole cruise. On the Pacific Dawn out of Australia they have the main Club area called the Dome right on top in front- I could not spend more than a hour there before starting to feel queasy and than was not even in bad seas.

  • 1 month later...

Count us among the happy, cheap travellers who chose inside YC over a regular MSC balcony. Loved it so much we booked again. And, yes, a little embarassing BUT i try to look as full of innocent wonder as I can. Much like my look as I am being escorted to the front of the airport line because I paid for CLEAR. I even sometimes say (too loudly) how happy I am to have paid for CLEAR making me a walking billboard for the service!

YC is GREAT. I am an Army Brat with a dad so frugal we never ate out or stayed in hotels. We drove to every new post in the U.S and slept in the car at rest stops. I still find vacations, cruises, hotels and restaurants a thrill. And I will pay to have a new and different experience. I don’t act snobby, I act LUCKY.

Do they have inside cabins as part of the Yacht Club? Which ships?

YC inside cabins were introduced on Meraviglia and are also on Seaside, so they will be included on Seaview and Bellissima (the 2 new ships coming this year and next year, respectively).

What about the DECK Chair club? This reminds me of a real life event...

Back in the 90's, when I was working for a large agency (farmer now)...we had a guy call in to book a 'honeymoon'. He SERIOUSLY wanted to know how much it would be if he brought a cooler with his own food and he and his wife-to-be SLEPT ON THE DECK by the pool! He didn't need a room. The agent told him to stay home and go camping, then hung up on him. :)

I like the sound of this Canoe Club. Even if I won a big lottery, I would not book the Yacht Club. It just is not my style. Dont need butlers, or exclusive dining areas, or big fancy rooms. So sign me up for the Canoe Club please:D

A holiday company that also has cruise ships are trialing ‘reserve your sun lounger for £22 per day’ they even have them on a plan! Hilarious

Im curious about this and I am in no way trying to be insulting or confrontational when I ask...Im just curious. Why would someone get an inside room with the Yacht club? Through my way of thinking, inside rooms were always cheapest, then oceanview, then balconies, then rooms that were bigger with bigger balconies. And that was the hierarchy. Being in the YC, but in an inside room seems counterintuitive. Im really curious because I have seen the similarity in pricing and wonder why someone might choose this option.

The only time I would ever consider an inside cabin is in YC - however, only if the price is right!

To have a cabin in the YC at little more than the price of a balcony cabin seems to me to be well worth forfeiting the balcony for all the benefits that YC offers.

Mind you, I've yet to experience one. But I spend very little time in a YC balcony cabin in comparison to a regular balcony cabin so I reckon not having a balcony wouldn't be too great a loss.

It’s a fair question!

I only considered it because I did a b2b on a ncl epic studio and loved it. I didn’t miss having a balcony or porthole for a second.

So when I saw the price of the YC inside I was more then willing to try, specially if you consider you have access to the one pool deck. For me it was way better then paying double or triple for another YC option, since I only use my cabin to sleep and get changed.

Happy cruising!

Priscila
