Just booked 6145

First time in a suite, and I think I've read a zillion threads about that cabin and butlers.

But I have a couple of questions I have not seen addressed.

I know there might be noisy people and piano players next door. But has anyone experienced noise from the setting up of tables in Blu below?

First time for a butler, and I'm sure we'll underutilize him, but some things we might want: I know they will bring you espresso, etc. to your cabin, so seems like a silly question that they will also bring regular coffee in the afternoon? (we really prefer plain old coffee). What about sweets, we like a treat in the afternoon - do they bring Bacio type fancy cakes and things or just cookies?

This will also be our first time for a drink package (we've always found the Elite cocktail party and bottles of wine at dinner to be sufficient) - if you go yourself to a bar, drinks are "free", but if you have the butler stock your fridge (with wine) or bring you a drink, you pay because it's considered room service?

Is Luminae similar to Blu in that the tables are close enough to have a conversation with the next table, or not? Regarding the drink package, it makes sense to just order wines or cocktails by the glass in Luminae, right?

I would love to be escorted to a last minute seat at the shows instead of scrambling, but do you really have to go back to your cabin for the process to start? What if you are at the far forward lounge or Michael's or any of the bars, really - wouldn't it make sense to have "a" butler assigned to the showroom every night to escort any suite passengers that arrive? And where are the reserved seats? (not first row I hope!)

Regarding the small closet in 6145 - it is a 7 day cruise (although we'll be traveling for 11 days total) - since we get Elite laundry AND suite laundry (is that correct?) why not just bring a few days worth of clothes and get them washed a couple of times? (I don't care if anyone sees me in the same outfit more than once). Is there at least enough room for that?

Another newbie question - do you have a room steward AND a butler?

I'm sure I'll have other questions but this is a start...

Your thread caught my attention because we are booked in 6145 on the infinity(I am not sure if that is your ship booked) this April through the Panama Canal on a 15 day cruise. I asked a question before about the piano and of course you could probably get a loud person playing the piano next-door it’s kind of a crapshoot. I’m sure during the summer when they’re more kids you could possibly get a child playing the piano also but we’re not going to worry about that.

We like having a butler but we didn’t use hima lot except for breakfast in the morning with cappuccino which was wonderful. And I only asked for snacks some days in the afternoon.

Yes alcohol in the room or fridge alcohol will be charged as room service.

We love Luminae when we had a sky suite in Spain amazing meals the sommelier will take care of all your needs with wine by the glass and never found the tables to be too close together like we felt in blue. We also loved Blu though.

We didn’t see one show on that cruise so I don’t know about the reserve seating situation.

I have seen video of the room and there isn’t a lot of storage will also use our suitcases under the bed as an extra large drawer. And do a load of laundry with our elite laundry I don’t believe you get complementary laundry for being in a sky suite. I believe it’s just getting a couple things pressed?

Can’t wait for a trip in April I’m sure you will enjoy! You’re on vacation on a cruise how can you not![emoji16]

The Elite laundry we've found to be plenty on longer cruises, so even without any "suite" laundry we should be ok.

And yes, I'm talking M-class Sky Suite 6145. Sorry.

In Blu wasn't the sommelier bottles only? And the cocktail servers wines by the glass? (I thought I saw glasses of wine on their trays, but didn't really pay much attention). So the sommelier does everything in Luminae? Or is there also a separate cocktail server?

Sky Suites don’t get extra laundry.

No you don’t have to return to your cabin to be escorted into the theater on Evening Chic nights, which are the only night seats are reserved & escort available. The seats are held until about 10-15 mins before the show. Butlers are at the theater to escort those who want to be escorted. We have never seen the theater full and haven’t used the esciort .

The butlers do serve coffee, teas and other treats in Michaels Club every afternoon. If you ask I’m sure your but,er will try and bring you what you want in afternoon.

It would be helpful to say which ship. 6145 is not a suite on S-Class ships....

6145 is an S1 sky suite located on deck 6 of the M Class ships. There are two suites with one one the port and another on the starboard side aft connecting to the penthouse suites. They are beautifully decorated and appointed since they were designed to match the Penthouse suites since they connect.

They are the best S1 sky suites on the M Class IMO. There are plenty of threads and videos if you have the time to check them out.

From the M class sticky:

"SHIP: Infinity

CABIN #: 6145

DECK #: 6

CLASS: Sky Suite 1

AREA: Last cabin at the aft end of the port side of the ship

BED NEAR: Bath; bed/s face the balcony.

QUIET?: Very! Felt like we were the only ones on the ship.

BALCONY VIEW: Excellent. Looks down to the sea.

BALCONY SIZE: Huge! We had 2 loungers, 2 chairs with footstools, and large table with 4 chairs on the balcony with room to walk around.

WIND A PROBLEM?: Not at all.

SOOT A PROBLEM?: None.

PROBLEMS/COMMENTS: Balcony is covered by canvas and has a regular door instead of a sliding glass door - not a problem. Room and bathroom are huge and gorgeous. Wonderfully quiet and enjoyed having a butler. Would love to have this cabin again. Will post photos in next post."

Various thoughts below.

I know there might be noisy people and piano players next door. But has anyone experienced noise from the setting up of tables in Blu below?

I have not been in that room but it would be unusual for there to be noise coming from below unless it was the thump-thump of bass music. Most noise complaints in any room involve carts or chairs being dragged across the floor above your head.

If there is something particular you want, just ask if it's possible (for coffee or desserts). They try to be accommodating with your requests as best as possible. If it's something that can be gotten via room service, then, yes, they can bring it. A specific piece of cake from Bacio or one of the restaurants may be harder to do but you can always ask. And as someone already mentioned, there is tea time served in MC now.

The minibar items are not free for Sky Suites so you'd pay those charges if you're consuming them. Ditto for any room service alcohol. Stocking the minibar with what you want is also not a service you get. Drink packages only work if you go to the bar. I'm sure there are or have been exceptions in every case but those are the policies that they generally adhere to.

Is Luminae similar to Blu in that the tables are close enough to have a conversation with the next table, or not? Regarding the drink package, it makes sense to just order wines or cocktails by the glass in Luminae, right?

Some of the tables are close together, yes. Like the other restaurants, there are two-top tables that can be pushed together for larger parties. There may be a couple that are by themselves that you can request, if available. I recall at least one by one of the windows. Unless it's full, it appears they try to space diners out as a matter of course. Look at the ship photos on Cruise Critic and you will see a bunch for Luminae to see how it's configured.

And where are the reserved seats? (not first row I hope!)

Varies--most often it's been in the middle of the lower level, but there have been some reports that it was a little further back more recently. They've been excellent seats wherever they are. The biggest downside is that you cannot just show up at the last minute because as someone else already said, they get released to everyone 10-15 minutes before. And, of course, it's only on Chic nights.

Another newbie question - do you have a room steward AND a butler?

Yes. I actually have had more interaction with the steward than the butler but I don't ask the butler to do much if anything.

In Blu wasn't the sommelier bottles only? And the cocktail servers wines by the glass? (I thought I saw glasses of wine on their trays, but didn't really pay much attention). So the sommelier does everything in Luminae? Or is there also a separate cocktail server?

They generally take a team approach. There is an assistant waiter who often does double-duty as the cocktail server if the waiter is busy. The sommelier will handle bottles and answer questions about glasses, too, but I've found a lot of the wait staff is pretty well-trained to make recommendations, too.

In Blu the Sommelier handles all wines, whether it be by the glass or bottle.

It is not necessary to have a butler escort you to the reserved seats, unless you enjoy that sort of attention.

Some of us just walk over to the reserved section by ourselves and show our suite cards to be seated there.

But to us, releasing the seats to the general public 10 - 15 minutes before the show begins negates the perk of being able to arrive at the theater at the last minute and still get good seats.

If we are going to arrive 10 -15 minutes early, we can always find good seats on our own.

You can go to Michael's Club for the afternoon treats, or ask your butler to serve them to you in your suite, whichever you prefer.

We never pack for more than about a week and make frequent use of the laundry, pressing and dry cleaning services, so we always have fresh, clean clothing to wear.

But we travel light and dislike spending time packing and unpacking and repacking and hauling around lots of luggage.

I hope by now they have replaced the fixed shower heads in 6145 and 6146 with removable ones.

That was our main complaint about those suites, in addition to only the single glass balcony door.

We thought they should have at least installed a large window into that wall to the balcony that has only the one door.

But aside from those minor drawbacks, we thought they were very nice suites.

Hope you have a wonderful cruise, whatever amount of clothing you choose to pack and whether or not you decide to use the butler escort.

I've watched that video of 6145, and it looks like the showerhead over the tub is moveable, and high enough to be used as a shower (not just tub rinser-offer), but it doesn't look there is a shower curtain around the tub...?

Yeah, we'll find our own seats at the shows since we like to arrive last minute anyway.

While I agree I like the idea of more light/view in the room, I bet the room stays cooler in warm climates with just the single door. Actually looking forward to not having the slam/slam/slam of the slider rolling back and forth!

In case you weren’t aware, all slider doors can be locked in the open position by changing the position of the door handle.

The aft balconies on the M class ships have a problem with not being able to be secured. People have brought bungee cords, etc. to fix the problem. They also have the problem of locking people OUT on their balcony.

If there is a simple solution then you're right, we and others who have stayed in those cabins and talked about the issues do not know about it.

We have sailed on M-class ships, and have never experienced a problem with a sliding glass door that could not be secured with the door handle. But then, we never had a cabin on the AFT.

Mea Culpa.

We always have the minibar emptied so we can stockpile sparkling water and water. In every case, our butler started stocking our fridge with the things we liked. We had a cab substituted for the sparkling wine and the Cabernet was replaced when close to empty.

We were in S1 6132 on Millie last January. We got locked out on the deck. It is not a aft suite. It is a know problem. On our cruise MC was busy and met some really nice people. Your butler will have all suites on deck 6 between 6132 to 6148. We enjoy Luminae better than Blu. One nice thing is in Luminae you can order off the MDR menu.

Thanks.

I was thinking about the lack of closet space...do you think they felt that since this was the "extra" room to the PH, that anyone reserving both was going to have plenty of closets in the PH? Or is the room oddly shaped in some other way that they couldn't put the regular double closet in?

I think we'll be fine with the closets, too, we both get the 20 Elite pieces so we should be fine.
