Not Impressed

We just got of the Oasis today and I have to say not impressed by RCCL. The ship is awesome, but man, could the crew use some help. I have never experienced such rude staff (with the exception of our room steward and main dining room server) on any cruise. We did the Allure 5 years ago and weren't impressed then, but decided to give RCCL another chance...I will say this was the last time I will sail with them. I know so many people love them, but between the bad service, bad attitudes and bad drinks I am not one of them.

try a smaller ship

Who was so rude that it bothered you?

Been on a lot of cruises and this has only happened once by one person

Although rude behavior can happen on any ship, I don't blame you for deciding to give up RCL after having bad experiences on both of your cruises. I have been on two RCL ships and had wonderful times. The service was fine, food was good, and the drinks were tasty. I've never experienced bad service on any of my cruises with Disney, RCL, NCL, or Carnival.

Bad service and rude behavior by staff are both unacceptable. I hope you let the cruise line know what happened.

Sometimes, you get a person with a bad attitude. It's happened to almost everyone. I can get past it...so do others...but if you can't, then that's ok! Our best cabin attendant was one we never, ever saw! Still don't know if it was a man or woman! They got a nice tip, regardless!

We've had a terrible waiter...wouldn't accommodate even the smallest request....pissed me off big time. The 'ass't" waiter was awesome, tho, and made up for the shortcomings of the waiter. Guess who got the extra tip? Yes..the assistant!

Nothing is perfect all the time. Not even me....I'm sorry to say!

We never encounted any rude staff on the Oasis on our October 29th cruise, in fact, the workers were so friendly we are going back in April. I do admit, we never eat in the MDR, we only eat at the specialty restaurants. We cruised on the Harmony in May our most favorite and totally friendly staff and when we cruised on the Allure never encounted anybody rude.

We never had any bad service or any bad bartenders, in fact, we found ourselves tipping the bartenders more per drink and at the end of the cruise there were some we would give $25 each because they were totally remarkable...wow, what a difference. I found most of the workers to be extremely friendly, but we did not have any experience in the MDR.

I've been on 10 Royal cruises, from the Sovereign to the Oasis, and have never had a rude crew. Some members better than others, but never a whole or even a majority of the crews.

I'm wondering what was done or said that the OP thinks was rude. Sure hasn't happened to us very often

Thats interesting because I was on the same cruise with the OP and just posted a 5 star review...especially service. I found everyone I encountered to be amazing and accommodating. However I did not interact with MDR.

March 2016 we cruise Oasis, Never will return. It was a gift from the financial company. Very nice ship, food, entertainment, etc.

The but is that I do not like the crowds of people, it is so many people more than 6000 passengers that personalized attention and quality to the client is lost. Even dogs go up as escorts for passengers who do not show any disability.

My next cruises will be with Celebrity

Not every disability is a 'visible' disability....but I have never seen a dog go as an 'escort' -- service animals, are a reality. If I ever see a dog on the 'arm' of a cruiser escorting them into the MDR, I will however let you know.

This is simply not true. Yes they usually have 5,400 passengers (not 6000) but they also have a 220,000 ton ship. In terms of people per square foot of public areas, Oasis class have more than the smaller ships. Number of guests without considering size is irrelevant. We just came off a fully holiday occupied Oasis and there were several times where our daughter was the only child on the carousel and time where my wife and I were the only people in central park.

What does it mean “even dogs go up as escorts”?

As for service animals, not all disabilities are obvious. Not all service dogs are stereotypical German shepherds or black labs with hard harnesses on.

Dogs can do amazing things; did you know that some dogs can sense blood sugar swings well before the diabetic can, and can alert them to the problem? Did you know some dogs can sense an oncoming epileptic seizure and alert the person to get to a safe space so a tragedy like the death of poor Jett Travolta doesn’t happen? Isn’t that amazing?

Often when you see a little service dog that stays very close to the person, that’s the reason.

We were on an absolutely full Navigator sailing, maxxed capacity, and the only placed it appeared full was in the MDR for dinner seating. The chairs had very little wiggle room to move in from the sheer number of people.....at any other venue on board it was fine. No matter what ship, the chair hogs at the pool will be aplenty, and I don't let those peopleless chairs stop we from picking a lounge I like.

Royal is obviously not for everyone. Lots of choices out there, i’m sure you will find one you are comfortable with. Good luck.

. Even with an official capacity of 5,400 passengers, Oasis regularly sails at 100 percent or more (maximum is 6,450), at a premium price point for the line.

I was on the same sailing as you. Service was great for the most part, but things headed south in the main dining room as the cruise progressed, both with service and food. Specifically, main issues were with food temperature. Upon speaking to other cruisers throughout the week, I learned this was the norm, and not an isolated experience.

Thanks for the feedback and I think as someone mentioned not all cruise lines are for everyone...this just isn't ours. I figured my experience might help someone decide one way or not.

I do have to say we have a great stateroom attendant and great main server at the MDR. MDR food was better than expected. Where we did experience downright rude employees was definitely in the Windjammer and many of the bars. My immediate family and the other traveling with us all had stories of the rudeness throughout. My simple one was at Windjammer asking for a slice of ham at breakfast, the employee at the carving station told me there was enough there...it was just the dry end of the ham chopped up. As I walked away he offered to slice more. My Dad ordered a soda in the comedy club, the waiter told him "I guess I can get you that"...obviously not happy it was not an actual "drink" order. My Dad is still waiting for that soda. And keep in mind that only 1 of the Coke machines near Sorrento was working after day 5...the one is the arcade was out of order and then the ones in Windjammer only available when it is open. At the Solarium bar I ordered a drink of the day. There is a paper clearly stating what is in that drink....he left out a big portion of that drink. We aren't big drinkers, but enjoy a few on a cruise, so with the prices I expect the alcohol listed. These are just a few of the minor issues we had but there was 7 days of this. Even with talking to a few employees they said RCCL was nothing like other cruise lines they had worked on and mentioned how they would like to go back to those.

Happy for everyone that has a wonderful experience on this cruise line, but wanted to share my not so great things.

Capacity for Oasis is between 5400 an 6420. It can a maximum, not OVER maximum to facilitate space in the lifeboats if there ever was a problem and need to use the lifeboats. If every stateroom that could have a 3rd or 4th passenger in it was filled, the ship is at full capacity. If every cabin is booked but 3rd or 4th passengers are not in all the cabins that could have them, it sails with less.

You could have all cabin sold but not at maximum capacity. We have sailed on Oasis class 3 times...never felt crowded. Saw the same 100 people all the time that had interests that we had....that's the way it would be on a smaller ship, with less to do.

For the people that don't like Oasis class ships, that leaves more room for those that do or that are interested in trying them....the ships are sailing full enough.
