cltnccruisers Posted January 20, 2018 #1 Share Posted January 20, 2018 We've sailed on RC a few times and thoroughly enjoyed the experience except for the heavy smoke in the casinos. We're trying Celebrity this March solely because the casino (and most of the ship) is smoke free. Someone recently on FOS told me he'd been told RC is considering going smoke free in its casinos. Has anyone else heard this?

cltnccruisers Posted January 20, 2018 Author #4 Share Posted January 20, 2018 Nope - smoking in the the casino is fine!(y) It normally doesn't bother me but our last time on Freedom it was downright oppressive. Maybe there was a ventilation issue. If the X cruise in March works out well it may be a moot point.
dwayneb236 Posted January 20, 2018 #5 Share Posted January 20, 2018 Recently on the Liberty. Don't smoke. Spent a good deal of time in the Casino. Was not an issue at all. Hardly noticed it.
cb at sea Posted January 21, 2018 #6 Share Posted January 21, 2018 Each cruise...each DAY will be different! If there happen to be a lot of smokers, the smoke is heavier. Can't predict it. Casinos don't want to drive away their gamblers by restricting smoking.
davekathy Posted January 21, 2018 #7 Share Posted January 21, 2018 I have heard they are considering it but have not heard if they have implemented it. Nope. Smoking is still allowed in the Casinos on all RC ships.

Casinos don't want to drive away their gamblers by restricting smoking. RC actually does try to limit it to a certain section of the casino and that seemed to work except on that last cruise. As I said, though, maybe there was a ventilation issue.
robbysbabe Posted January 21, 2018 #9 Share Posted January 21, 2018 Nope. Smoking is still allowed in the Casinos on all RC ships. My past cruise in July on the Empress; the casino was 100% smoke free - had a pleasant chat with host about and and he did suggest Royal may implement on on their ships. Personally I do not smoke but I also do not mind a fellow gaming lighting up; most smokers I encounter in casinos (land or sea) are more than curious (holding lit cigarette down or on opposiite side of non smoker etc.) My huge pet peeve is when non gamers use the casino as a smoking lounge crowding the main ways and taking up chairs when they do not play. Was this just for that specific sailing? I've seen others post here on CC the same complaint about smokers not gambling but using the casino as a smoking lounge. soremekun Posted January 21, 2018 #13 Share Posted January 21, 2018 On several Carnival ships the Casino is the pathway to other venues. I hate passing through the Casino. Cigarette smoke is disgusting. Second hand smoke is bad for the health. These cruise lines are leery of eliminating smoking due to a potential loss of income. Why can't they create some type of Darth Vader mask to keep the cigarette smoke in their nose/mouth. Do casino workers receive hazard pay? 2

The main host said he had to “fight” for this with corporate - it’s a rather small casino, so maybe that had a play. I know the Empress has been repositioned; when I went on it - it departed from Tampa (Cuba Cruise which was fantastic BTW) I think it leaves from Miami now - do not know if policy has changed. I stand corrected claiming casinos on all RC ships allow smoking. Thank you.
robbysbabe Posted January 21, 2018 #16 Share Posted January 21, 2018 Ok. I stand corrected claiming casinos on all RC ships allow smoking. Thank you. Oh I certainly did not intend to “correct” - I am loyal to Royal and was pleasantly surprised when I took this sailing. Too much negatively on these boards these days, just sharing something new - Happy Sailings!!

This has been my experience for the last couple of years since smoking has been banned on balconies - including senior cruise officers! I am looking forward to our Alaska cruise on Celebrity next year to experience a non-smoking casino.

constable145 Posted January 21, 2018 #24 Share Posted January 21, 2018 Ideally they ban smoking from the entire fleet. If not restrict smoking to one place and one place only on board...some place where smoking is the ONLY attraction...I.e a private smoking lounge, not the casino.
Missusdubbya Posted January 21, 2018 #25 Share Posted January 21, 2018 Nope. Smoking is still allowed in the Casinos on all RC ships. No smoking in casinos on any Royal ships out of Australia. When I sail from the US on Royal I choose not to gamble because the smoke is so disgusting. Sent from my iPhone using Forums
