Has anyone watched the Super Bowl on board?

Sailing on Crown this Friday with a group to celebrate some life events. Our beloved Birds made it to the Super Bowl. We already know that we will miss the first half:( but wouldn't miss the group celebration that has been planned for over a year. I expect they will play the game on MUTS ( have watched playoff games in the past) but are there other viewing areas and will we be able to snag standing room viewing up top for the second half?

Hi Smilz!

We're on the same cruise - and are really looking forward to it. Neither of us is a fan of the teams playing in the Super Bowl, but I'm interested to see what sort of snacks they put out and am happy for the fans of the two teams.

I realized a few weeks ago that the opening ceremony of the Winter Olympics is on the last night of our cruise - I'm hoping they show that at MUTS as well, or at least somewhere on the ship.

We sailed the Golden (2011) for the Super Bowl between the Packers & Steelers. There was a Packer rally party in the Explorers lounge (game broadcasted) while the Steelers rally party was at MUTS (game broadcasted). They had hot finger foods at both venues. Not sure (with the 7 years that have gone by/cutbacks) if the same type of food is still served. The game was not broadcast in individual rooms due to licensing restrictions (not sure if this is still the case). One piece of advice, go to whatever venue is hosting the event early as the chair hogging/seat saving was off the charts.....:):):)

Yes, twice! First time was off the coast of Chile. They had it on MUTs and in the Princess theater. It was pretty cold outside so most folks opted for the Princess theater. The casino had a square pool and I won on the final score so it was pretty memorable.

Second time was in Australia. It was delayed since the game occurred when we were sleeping but it was on MUTs and in the Vista Lounge. We were touring during the first half and ended up watching the second half.

Both times there were munchies and deals on beer etc. Quite a different way to watch the game!

We were on the Regal Empress (not a typo) out of Tampa back in 2003 when the Tampa Bay Bucs played the Oakland Raiders in the Super Bowl. The ship's crew set up the largest public room for a Super Bowl party. Game time was around 4pm and we got there around noon to claim decent seats. During the pre-game shows and the game itself, they served typical stadium fare: hot dogs, chips, pizza, etc. It was a great time. More so because it was mostly a Tampa Bay crowd and they won the game!

When we were on the Royal Princess a couple of weeks ago, they showed the playoff games in several public areas. I specifically remember the casino and Club 6. Don't know about MUTS -- I didn't check it out. They also showed them on the stateroom TVs.

I've seen 4 Super Bowls onboard Princess ships, the most recently this last Feb 2017 on the CB, and the certainly the most memorial was in 2010 in Antarctica on the Star outside on MUTS while it was snowing (other worldly) ...

The game will be shown all most on every TV around the ship and MUTS, and AFAIK the Super Bowl is the only NFL game I've seen onboard a Princess ship that's also shown live in the cabins

Last year we were aboard the Caribbean Princess and watched the Super Bowl in Club Fusion. They had lots of different game snacks chicken wings, taco bar, chips and dip and popcorn and if I remember correctly several large screen TV's positioned through out the lounge. We had a good time although the game didn't turn out the way we wanted.

You will definitely find standing room at MUTS. It will be tough to find a seat anywhere. And I hope your beloved Eagles prevail. A lot.

Lots of Super Bowl info here:

We watched the game on MUTS on the Island several years ago while in the southern Caribbean. They had a spread of finger food set up at the back of the pool area with chips, dips, hot wings, etc. As I recall they also showed the game in the theater but it may have been in Club Fusion. It was really nice out and the beer was close and cold so we watched the game on MUTS.

Due to licensing, the game was not shown on the individual cabin TVs. The ship (Princess) has to pay licensing fees depending on the number of screens that show the game. The one thing to remember is that you will see the national ads but not the regional ads. So the screen goes blank during the slots put in for regional advertisements. Not a bad thing actually.

We were on the Crown or Caribbean (can't remember which) during the superbowl a few years ago. There was a huge group on board on their annual "superbowl cruise", and they had the theatre booked for their private viewing event. The game was also on the big MUTS screen, as well as explorers lounge. There was an activity planned in club fusion for those not interested in football.

Unfortunately, it started to rain and all the outdoor viewers were making their way indoors, looking for a dry place to continue watching the game. Explorers was packed tight and the crowd was spilling over into the deck 7 corridor. The staff ended up cancelling the activity in club fusion so that the superbowl could be viewed there as well.

I would not count on it.

Licensing fees for the Olympics are very high and none of the competitions are sgown on the ship. I doubt the opening ceremony will be either. Better set up to record it at home.

We were on a cruise when the super bowl was the first evening, I gave my husband my vest ( had seats right by exit) and I ran up to Muts as soon as the muster drill was over. I was the first person up there and could not believe all of the "things"on the loungers. Apples, bananas, paperback books, towels, etc. The front two rows were all taken. That is ok if you plan to come back asap BUT half the seats were still empty at half time.

I hoped you moved a few items, or at the least snitched the offending hogs to a nearby crew member, to get a good seat. I sure would have.....

My advice is get there early or stay home if you want a good seat. I was on the Royal Princess last year and I think one guy slept on the lounge chair all night.

No, i decided i did not want to rock the boat. There weren't any crew around until half time or so. Now, i have changed over he years and am sick of what some of hese people do so I am sure I woukd move hem now. We have season Packer tickets and I have witness what some diehard fans can do and say if they don't gt their way. Not like it was back in the 60's and 70's.
