madibeme Posted January 30, 2018 #1 Share Posted January 30, 2018 So I am confused I thought we were allowed to bring two bottles of wine per cabin and if we drank them in the room we were fine. Someone in a group on Facebook said we get the corkage charged if our cabin steward sees a bottle in our room at all. Which is correct? Thanks! You are only subject to corkage if you bring a bottle to a public venue.

Clarea Posted January 30, 2018 #6 Share Posted January 30, 2018 Thanks. That's what I thought but someone was trying to tell me otherwise. They may have been thinking of one of the other cruise lines that charge corkage fees during the boarding process.
Rare Rogueperson Posted January 30, 2018 #7 Share Posted January 30, 2018 The main place they will attempt to charge you is the MDR or specialty restaurants. However, its a hit or miss considering the controversy over it. On my last cruise on the Grandeur last July, we brought 4 bottles of wine to dinner with us and was not charged a corkage fee for any of them, even though the new policy is $15.00 per bottle. We were actually prepared to pay for it. It is technically any public venue, but the most common one is the restaurants. There is a fine line here between policy and customer satisfaction. I am NOT advocating this action, but I suspect the reason why the implementation of this is spotty is because charging a corkage fee may affect customer satisfaction as reflected in the surveys. Charging it may lower the ratings they get from those surveys, which affect job performance reviews. Guests may have threaten to lower their satisfaction scores due to this, may have prompted many servers to "overlook" such charges.

Rjh8842 Posted January 31, 2018 #16 Share Posted January 31, 2018 I have a feeling that many are not getting charged in the mdr b/c of tips. I think waiters may be afraid that if they charge it may come out the tip.
eel Posted January 31, 2018 #17 Share Posted January 31, 2018 Interesting. Will someone that has actually been charged a corkage fee please post here. Maybe they introduced and advertised the corkage fee to discourage people (especially newbies) from bringing wine on board? But if you decide to bring it anyway they look the other way to keep satisfaction ratings up?

Milwaukee Eight Posted January 31, 2018 #19 Share Posted January 31, 2018 I know this is a bit different but wine we have received onboard in our cabin as a gift, from various places like TA, friends/families, staff, and the Casino, have never been charged a corkage fee in any public location. Milwaukee Eight Posted January 31, 2018 #21 Share Posted January 31, 2018 Did those wine bottles have some sort of a sticker indicating they came from the ship? I looked last time we got one from The Casino as we have had this general discussion before. I have not been able to find a label or mark. That doesn’t mean there wasn’t a way for them to know. Generally, the wine we have received from the Casino is not our type. We typically take it to dinner if we are eating with others and have it opened and shared with others. Most of Royals wines are obtainable at a good wine store. Sent from my iPhone using Forums
