What is Your Favorite Area of the world to Cruise and Why?

I can think of no greater place to be than in the Caribbean! It's always warm and sunny and the islands are so beautiful. I wouldn't mind if that were the only place I ever got to cruise.

So far, it's Europe. So much to see and do. Love the ancient ruins, the wine, the scenery.

But, it's a big world out there, and I haven't been to most of it.

We have enjoyed all our cruises and the French Polynesia is our favorite. The beauty of the water and the snorkeling (Coral) is hard to beat.

For the history and food Europe wins but being ‘local’ we have been lucky enough to enjoy land holidays where you do get the opportunity to really soak up the culture which is simply impossible on a cruise....Also you can leave a Med cruise exhausted...it just seems criminal to stop at a town or city full of history and not try to fit all sights in!

 

For rest and relaxation the Caribbean remains a favourite...

 

For natural beauty Norway and Alaska...

 

For variety, the TP remains my favourite cruise of all times....A week in Hawaii first, time in Sydney after and in between Bora, Bora, The Bay of Islands and the magic of ‘Hobiton’ what more could you want? Also with a cruise of this length you have the opportunity to get to know fellow guests better and you have the luxury of many sea days...

 

Don’t forget Asia - Singapore and Vietnam are brilliant :). Not done a TA as we love exploring the ports on our cruises. The east coast of Canada is pretty nice too :cool:.

Even after many visits the Caribbean is still appealing — Central Ohio is lacking in beaches and palm trees — but I’m game to cruise just about anywhere. New Zealand is next on my bucket list.

 

Sea days are the best! Give me a balcony and my trusty Kindle and I’m set. Oh, and an occasional Adult Beverage. :cool: Loved our TAs. Hoping for a TP someday.

 

DH and I joked that it would be great if instead of making landfall at the end of our TA the captain would turn around and head back. Maybe if he left his wallet in Spain...

Agree! Our cruises so far in Asia have been seven day add ons to land tours! We did love Hong Kong, Singapore and Vietnam! Our first Asian cruise was on Star Cruises...It was really different as most cruisers were Chinese....we loved the cultural diversity! We also loved the quiet evening bars when most guests were in the casino!

 

We should have celebrated a significant birthday last year in the Millie PH in Asia but I unfortunately was grounded (not allowed to fly)....We still managed a cruise from Southampton. As I get mobile enough for touring Asia again we will return! Just about to put a comment on the ‘bucket list’ post saying something like ‘don’t leave until tomorrow.....’ this year has been a real learning curve for us that cruising isn’t all about choice...

My most favorite area of the world to cruise is Eastern Mediterranean. We love Greece and Turkey. Then next would be Asia.

 

Totally agree, but would probably include the whole of Europe. Our favourite cruise though was Asia. Pre tour in China, which was fabulous, then Korea, Vietnam, Thailand, Hong Kong and Singapore.

Vietnam and Philippines out of Singapore. China and Japan, Australia and New Zealand, Greek Islands ....... I’ve never had a bad cruise, but the Caribbean is not my biggest favourite. The best ever was Galapagos on Xpedition.

We love the cruise we're on, so all of them!

 

European cruises have been our most favorite though, and the 2004 Hawaii cruise where Infinity actually had 7 full days in the islands.

Without a doubt, I love anywhere that rings the Mediterranean. I've done nine cruises and will be on my 10th in May. I have been lucky enough to visit a lot of ports that a the moment are off the table, including Istanbul numerous times (and land stays too) as well as Antalya, another great port in Turkey. I've even visited Syria and Lebanon via cruise ship.... and Israel, Egypt, Tunisia, Morocco too. It's a shame there are so many more limitations today. :(

Tough question!

 

Since we’ve done the West Coast repositioning cruises 4 times, that has to go goes as our favorite itinerary. Overnight in San Francisco, lots of wine tasting and fun ports from S Calif to BC or Wash State.

 

We loved the South America cruise from Argentina to Chile: Port Stanley in the Falklands and Ushuaia were the most unique ports of call we’ve been to.

 

Love European cruises and our favorite port of call right now is Valletta Malta. Very unique and surprising. All that white sandstone/limestone forts and castles as we sail in and the the Hypogeum, an underground prehistoric site. Unbelievable.

 

Oh, thern there is the Fall cruise from NYC to Quebec City......then there is.......OK, I love all my cruises and so many great ports to explore.

 

Not too many of us are listing any Carribean cruise. We live in the Florida Panhandle and we take Caribbean cruises to enjoy the ship. We have better beaches (come join us!), better restaurants and I can buy Chinese stuff at home just as easily as on a Caribbean Island. I will say San Juan is unique and love wandering and eating in Old Town.....oh and then there is.......I’ve got to quit!

Maybe I should have asked where people have cruised and then put an asterisk by their favorite(s). When I was younger, I enjoyed the Caribbean. As I got older, I did land trips to enjoy hiking in European countries, along with New Zealand. Then, I started cruising again and combining them with my own land tours. At this point in my life, doing both together hits the spot. I would enjoy almost any place a cruise ship could go...

The problem with a lot of cruises is the ships don't dock near the cities you may want to see. Bus trips cover European cites much better. Cruises are more for relaxing on board. The Caribbean is nice because you may be at a different island every day. The Greek islands are great too.

I love Alaska - it's one of those places I can go to again and again and again. The scenery and wildlife are spectacular.
