Huge brawl on the Legend, with video.

Snoody much?! Those lowered prices have afforded my family to expand our vacation options and also allow for more that just one trip a year. Now that more schools are going to a balanced calendar with a 2 week Spring Break and a week long Fall Break, we have 3 decent chances for getaways. So maybe instead of referring to us frugal conscious consumers as “Ferals” you should remember that my family’s money spends just as well as yours.

Posters who say that it is because of low prices that an event like this only happens on Carnival are wrong. Prices are low across the board on all the mass market lines. There is a glut of ships right now and the cruise lines keep building more. Departures from Florida where competition is intense, fares are even more equal. Honestly, Carnival is not my line of choice basically because I like the more conservative interior designs that other cruise lines offer. This discussion should be more focused on Carnival's security response and not on other factors that are no different than their competition.

The problem with that is how would the average person know what

'planned gang" activities looks like?

The assumption low cruise price would attract undesirable people to cruise Carnival is a total myth. Gangbanggers pull in more money selling drugs in one day than an honest, tax paying Joe would make in a whole year working 9-5. And these unsavory characters have expensive taste, like to go high end and are flush with illegitimate cash. But if the ignorant insists Carnival is low class and low end, so be it. They are the ones missing out on all the good cruise deals, not us.

Regardless, the security members committed criminal acts.

No criminal act by the security team. The person being kicked is engaged on a potentially lethal attack. As such the use of force of any kind to stop it is legal.

that deletion of evidence is one of the most disturbing things...clearly they knew they didn't handle it the way it should've been and wanted to cover up their inadequate "security"

OTOH the CCL security team committed many filmed acts of felony assault on cruise passengers. It is called assault by means of a dangerous weapon, i.e. by means of a shod foot. So are you ok with that?

What kind of captain says that to other passengers and then does nothing about it. This group should have been removed after the first violation.

The very disturbing thing I see with the video is the fact that Carnival is not equipped to handle this type of situation. I post this with 30 years of law enforcement experience. I can tell you it it is obvious their security staff has zero training in any type of defensive tactics or any low impact weapon training. You mean to tell me they don't know a basic pressure point to use, a simple strike. How about a baton, CS gas (pepper spray) or even a taser, no sign of handcuffs? This is incredible, their reaction was to start kicking subjects that are fighting. In my opinion their "security" was out of control more than the people fighting.

They need serious training and NOW. This is unacceptable, I cant believe they dont have any well trained personnel. When I cruised I didnt realize the passengers would be responsible for defending themselves in this kind of incident.

You are talking about policing, law enforcement. From the stories and videos this was more of a riot situation. I doubt whether ANY training for security crew could cope with more than one or perhaps two thuggish individuals who don't give a damn about injuring others.

I've never been on Carnival and will not be doing so in future, but I have seen the odd "disturbed" individual on upmarket cruise lines making life very unpleasant for the guests and crew, and have been upset about the lack of enforcement by the officers. It's obviously a judgement call, but when multiple guests approach the officers about an individual and he/she is allowed to continue the behaviour something is wrong and the industry needs to up its game.

Maybe fights break out everywhere in your neighborhood, but not mine. Mr. Roberts

Oh so you live in the only perfect neighborhood on the world. Cause I bet of you start checking you will that there has been more then a few fights in your neighborhood.

I was waiting for someone to take this into the cutback area...ridiculous. I think you are right you need to move on to a cruise line where the fighting control is much more organized....happy cruising.

I can only hope that the Australian authorities do not have to absorb the cost of this police action. A total meltdown of Carnival's security resulted in the need for local Australian law enforcement to intervene in a situation that Carnival's onboard security should of been properly equipped and trained to handle onboard.

I don’t care what the circumstances were; there was no excuse for that security guard to have been kicking the passenger that was on the ground.

I don't know what happened so I wont make blanket statements, that said I can give you a circumstance that would make it ok for me....

Ok for you to kick a passenger repeatedly in the legs while they are already restrained on the ground while you are acting in the capacity of ship security? Enlighten me.

Carnival should have zero tolerance for violence or threats. First time it happens, offender is confined to the cabin and escorted off the ship at the next port.

No excuses, no second chances. Violence is never acceptable.

Trouble is... You're talking about 23 "me and mine against the world" offenders to be guarded 24 hours a day

for 4 days at sea until they can be escorted off. That takes a bunch of manpower that apparently was not available.

That being said, "Proper Planning Prevents Piss Poor Performance"

Wrong on two counts:

• "Putting the boot in" won't stop the melee. It's just "How dare you cause problems on my ship!"

• The male purser was circling the melee, kicking both the guy holding the headlock and the guy in the headlock.
