Huge brawl on the Legend, with video.

I will be retiring at the end of July, with 31 years of law enforcement experience. I taught defensive tactics for 4 recruit schools. Maybe Carnival will hire me to teach their "security" team pressure point control tactics, ground fighting and a few other techniques!! It just might be a good retirement job for me! Give them a week of training then I would have to go on a cruise every month, just to check things out of course!!! I might be on to something here!!!!

What their security team did shows they have zero training. They are on international waters, they can lock them up if they want- easily justified.

Thats a great idea! Free cruises while you train security. You are on to something...

I like how everytime these videos surface that only show a glimpse of the total event people become armchair critics of security. I can promise you that if you were just spit on, kicked and punched moments before the video started, you would be kicking the person as well. You would be pissed and hurt. And with almost no training you would do whatever you could. Bite, kick, punch etc. So don't pin all the blame on security until you see the video of the 10 minutes leading up to this fight. I think the security people did the best they could given their lack of training. And as far as trying to get the cameras away that is perfectly justified. Because people go edit the video and show only what they want you to see. And of course there are legal reasons.

For all those worried about Carnival nickle-and-diming attracting those you deem not of your standard, the perps have money, so they are not the great unwashed that you fear, sorry ;p

I don’t see a lot of adrenaline involved. Quite a bit of random cheap kicks. The most adrenaline involved was the security guy who threw his arm back and was about to punch a woman in the face. He dropped his arm before continuing further. I believe other staff around him told him not to or he saw the phone recording. The officer with the Indian accent trying to stop the filming in between his cheap kicks had a good amount of adrenaline response to try to cover his butt.

What exactly was crew supposed to do instead of kicking someone to get them off of someone? What if they had them in a chokehold and that was the only way to get them off? What would you do? Suppose that person was getting strangled? What then? This was an extreme circumstance. If that was me being pinned by some psychotic drunk i would thank the crew members. Some of these reactions about the crew are ridiculous. I agree they should have all been removed at the first port for being a danger. But since they weren't and it was out of control the crew did the best they could.

Finally, a levelled headed common sense response! Security was definitely out muscled and pretty much ineffective......clearly there is a lack of training when it comes to dealing with escalated situations like this. Hey cruise lines, hire men and women who have the proper training AND, the physical ability to clean up a mess like this.

Hey passengers - pray that your fellow cruise mates aren't trashy people and all will be fine. That seems to be the issue with Carnival. Not sure why they attract the low lifes...

No drinks package on that cruise.

The fighting was for days, not 4 minutes. Ship pulled an unscheduled stop at Eden NSW and was met by federal police. We will see on the news tonight what went down.

Just as well no one was carrying. But then that don't happen down here.

Check out more detail and conjecture on Australian and NZ board.

Thanks for posting the NZ article. It makes sense that this wasn’t just 4 minutes but more like 5 days of people acting like morons and idiots.

Frustrating part for me is that people holed up in their cabins for days due to fear and Carnival didn’t kick them off until 2nd last day, and now is only offering 25% on peoples next cruise. That is a travesty and if I were on that cruise, I would be taking legal action to get my money back.

Disgraceful

I'm curious how you came to this conclusion that they have such a lack of training? Cruise ship security guards actually do have extensive training and some cruise lines even send them to FBI courses. One step further, security officers are typically required to have a military background. I've even provided defensive tactics training aboard cruise ships and was pleasantly surprised how well they did.

He might be able to justify those kicks if the guy he was kicking had the other guy in a choke hold, but there are much better tactics to combat something like that.

Carnival management should be ashamed of their offer of a 25% discount for a future cruise after allowing this disruption to go on for days and not immediately heading toward land to turn these hooligans over to authorities. Accounts from several passengers said they were afraid to leave their cabins which indicates they did not get the services that they had paid for. Therefore, 25% refund of their current fare for what will likely be applied toward the FULL PRICE for a future cruise is insulting.

For those of you who love Carnival, keep going on their cruises.

For the rest of us, we will abstain and give you lots more room on the ship, You all will likely not miss us so have fun on the FUN SHIPS

Those crazy aussies. No excuse for the security staff. They should be trained in how to grapple, and to use pressure points to subdue suspects. Kicking someone in the butt and ribs isn't the way to go! Maybe the lapd trained them.

HA!

Well this is but one reason I bailed on Carnival years ago. Check out Celebrity/RCCL's security people. Most if not all are former IDF. Once I found that out, I had no worries about anything.

I was just on royal and saw no IDF. They looked just like the boys from Carnival but with body cameras on them. Would have loved to see some IDF - but from the looks of the cruise they are cutting corners like everyone else. Or at least that is what the elitist on the ship were saying. Also I want to let you know the pricing was very cheap for that cruise and I met some of my fellow Carnival cruisers on board. Just when you thought it was safe!

Not sure what you mean but I have sailed Celebrity numerous times and all you have to do is check LinkedIn. Every one I've pulled up has been former Israeli military, or, simply, highly qualified.

And for others who say this happens on all cruise lines, perhaps. But if you do go to youtube, 90% of the videos are from Carnival. Enjoy

If it was a case of someone was in a chokehold and the security team was concerned for their lives, why would they kick them, then take a break to go swat at those recording? I would think if you were worried someone might die you’d stick with the people fighting.

On LinkedIn we can all be IDF. Have a celebrity cruise booked, I plan to look for all the exIDF as for Royal you were wrong. Didn’t see one guy with a crushing hebrew/Israeli name. Maybe they were on Carnival as undercover royal/celebrity cruisers to bring back all the videos of people doing things they never heard of on those cruise lines.

Kudos to Carnival's security people for doing what needed to be done to break up the brawl.

For those of you complaining about the methods, wise up. The security folks did what they needed to do. Do you expect your garbage collectors to wear white gloves and treat your trash like fine china?

While I don't expect garbage collectors to wear white gloves and treat trash like fine china, I also don't expect garbage collectors to damage my car or property when collecting the garbage. Do you?

You are dead on here. Class does not equal financial wealth. I’ve known many “poor” classy people and wealthy “trash”.

Some of these posts are like high school bullies that have to put down others to help boast their own ego. For those that continue to say Carnival cruisers are trash or similar are simply displaying their lack of class period. Keep it up you are just making whatever groups you claim look bad.

let's hope there is a NO cruise list for the Barkho family

they should have have been escorted to jail rather than let go

It may have been that the melee took place in international waters and the Aussie police had no jurisdiction over the incident. Only when the boat got with Aussie waters that they were able to do something, and that was to remove them from the ship.

I don’t think alcohol was involved. I also understand the ship tried to have them removed earlier but the ports involved would not allow Carnival to offload them. I think that Carnivals offer of 25 % reduction is pathetic. As was the comment from the CE that she hoped people could enjoy the rest of their cruise. That was - 1 freakin night. People impacted by this cruise esp those with children who were involved or threatened by such violence should receive a total refund.

Israel Defense Force - i.e. Israeli military i.e. mess with them and they will mess you up.

Soldiers are trained to kill. They would be effective against terrorists on high sea but a wrong tool to deal with civilian thugs like the Barkhos. That's a job for cops.

That's it, I had enough of this lack of security. I wont cruise with Carnival again,,,Untill Dec.2018.....:p

If your going on a cruise and are so worried about the security, maybe you should stay on dry-land. Believe it or not, they know what their doing.... Carry on
