So many conclusions based on about 2 minutes of video. Blame carnival for overacting response, not acting sooner, lack of training, alcohol involvement, whatever. No one on cruise critic yet knows the full story. Let’s take a breath before condemning anyone.

Was that Captain Gazzano towards the beginning? The older gentleman in a white uniform walking away towards the camera?

Right at the beginning of the OP's first link (the 9News report), totally bald, large girth? Yes.

Does sound a little strange why a family would want to board a cruise ship for all that money, and just fight,,,maybe they or someone in their family works for Royal?

Gotta get the Royal bashers of Carnival all spun up!

Strawman argument. Nobody is blaming Carnival for not acting sooner, by 2 minutes of footage.

Did you not read any of the news articles? The violence began on day 1, and allowed to persist until day 9, with the captain telling passengers, "What do you want me to do about it?" That's enough information to condemn. Anyone can disagree, this is cruise critic.

Heck, maybe if Carnival had given the family until day 10, the they would have gotten this aggression out of their system, and placed apology letter's under bloodied passenger's cabin doors.

What do you want me to do about it? How about 9 days of thread activity, and you're not allowed to go anywhere? Think about how the passengers felt, trapped in that situation. At least, you have a choice to not read.

I never said it wasn't entertaining.

let's hope there is a NO cruise list for the Barkho family

they should have have been escorted to jail rather than let go

Or at least disqualified from appearing on Carnival’s Vacation Creation television show....

More evidence of the fact that the cruise lines have lowered the bar so far that the ferals are now able to afford a ticket. Another great reason to avoid mass market cruise ships.

I disagree. Just because someone has money doesn't mean that he/she behaves well. However, when passengers are crowded together the way they are on some ships, altercations are more likely to happen.

The " Captains" reaction at the start of the video tells you much of why and how this terror cruise grew into this... He is supposed to be in charge of the ship ... He couldn't have ran away any faster .. He looked petrified ... What a spineless slob he is... He should have took control of this situation on day 1 ... Responsibility of what goes on in his ship is his ... He should wear much of the blame in this incident

Maybe just maybe he was going to call for more security.

Probably a good call on his part though for damage control later. Being video recorded near the kicking crew members would make the video even harder to digest for those who viewed it later.

Yup, cruise lines are certainly going after quantity not quality. Cram them in like cattle and we'll suck the money out of them on the "fun-cation."

Good summary explaining why reading articles and first hand reports about this event is much more important than just commenting on a single video.

From personal experience, I predict with a VERY high level of confidence that your upcoming cruises on the NA and Celebrity will NOT have the same levels of excessive excitement.

Really need to find out root cause of what caused all this. I have seen people really out of control that act like complete idiots. I'm not saying the staff has the right to kick someone when they are down but sometimes people, whether passenger or not, need a good kicking. I'm pretty sure if he would of calmed down it would not of escalated to this level.

Really was "the cause" really the issue here or that thugs could beat up people for 3 days with little interference from security?

It was posted in a recent thread about two people arrested after a recent cruise.

<<>>

CBP does not get the manifest until shortly before departure, and then need to vet every passenger on the list, so they could not stop anyone from boarding. Also, just having an outstanding warrant will not result in arrest, only if the jurisdiction where the warrant was issued requests remand.

Wow! Thanks for the info. Hopefully, they are a bit more proactive with those on the terror watch list.

I think at the moment it is. Lots of youth gang ethnic, violence on the increase over the last 12 months in our city, backed up by statistics. Certain areas are worse than others. We have a marked increase in aggravated burglaries, trashing stuff, turning up to events to attack people etc. They’ve set up task forces etc to try and stop the escalating violence, but while we have slack recently introduced laws where repeat offenders are given bail etc, patrolled or let off nothing will change. They walk into supermarkets taking and threatening, then tell the store security they can do nothing to stop them. Even throw stuff at the security guards. Which is right, the security officers are powerless to do anything. This is a very recent phenomena. So I also know what happens when security stands back and just talks. Works with some, but not with people determined to cause trouble. Let’s face it if that large group had behaved we would would not be questioning the security’s response.

Karoo: Can I ask where this is happening and who the people are who are engaging in violent crime?

k.

It's too bad they were let on in the first place. I know that the manifest isn't checked to see if anyone onboard has warrants out against them until after the ship sails.

So, if we have to do an online check in prior to showing up at the port, you mean the authorities don't have some way to, I don't know, quick scan the passenger list to see if anyone might be a potential issue? I can't imagine this family not having a rap sheet of some kind already.

It would have been nice for them to have been flagged prior and then denied boarding.

This was an International cruise so everyone onboard needed a passport and went through immigration before boarding. If they had outstanding warrants, it would have flagged them

I will be retiring at the end of July, with 31 years of law enforcement experience. I taught defensive tactics for 4 recruit schools. Maybe Carnival will hire me to teach their "security" team pressure point control tactics, ground fighting and a few other techniques!! It just might be a good retirement job for me! Give them a week of training then I would have to go on a cruise every month, just to check things out of course!!! I might be on to something here!!!!

What their security team did shows they have zero training. They are on international waters, they can lock them up if they want- easily justified.

If there would be a like button, I just hit it.lol

You must have missed the article that shows this family’s mansion and Mercedes Benz (among other luxury cars).
