Smoker don’t book bliss

Recommended Posts

Just got onboard there is only one small area to smoke in deck 17 tiny area of spice and a sectioned off area of the casino but only when open. That’s an extremely long walk to have a smoke if you are in any of the bars or at the pool.

Thanks for the heads up. We are booked on the Bliss in January out of the 20 of us there are 4 smokers I will let them know. We had another option for a different line and will probably rebook with that line as we know what to expect on that line.

I’m truly devastated there is only room for around 40 people in the smoking area I would not have booked this ship had I known

The casino is no smoking which many appreciate. The smoking part of the casino is actually a smaller part sealed in with doors. I think there is a cigar lounge that also permits smoking. So actually 3 parts of the ship allow smoking and is a long walk from your cabin.

I’m happy that the main casino is non smoking even as a smoker I hate the stale smoke smell that drifts throughout the ship.

The cigar lounge is for cigars only just been thrown out of there for smoking a cigarette so yes only 2 places to smoke 1 when in port as you can’t smoke in the casino unless it’s open.

There should be more outdoor areas to smoke like outside the cigar lounge on getaway.

I guess too many cigar smokers complained because someone posted there were too many cigarette smokers in the cigar lounge.

Perfect! One step closer to 100% smoke-free ships!

Why why do you need that I agree all ships should be smoke free inside because it smells bad and is unfair on the non smokers but why should there be no designated smoking areas ? How do they effect you.

I, for one, got sick from the large smoking areas in escape the last time I sailed. Had to take additional days off work and take steroids for a week after...still wasn't 100% until a few weeks later. A friend on the same ship was a little better off then me. So yea, smoking - even outside can affect people on top of the regular old second hand smoke danger.

Was just going to book my next cruise on the Escape today, this post makes me want to switch to the Bliss now. Will have to look at where she is next spring.

If you're looking for a cruise line that allows smoking in more areas, you may want to look at MSC; however, even they don't allow smoking in the casino in NA markets. Maybe you need to look at European cruises, though even they are begining to have restricted Smoking areas.

Sorry that you're finding this a difficult situation but perhaps you need to re-think your smoking addiction.

Because of my post, this thread may get deleted, so please read it quickly as it may be important to you.

Enjoy

I think a great compromise would be if they added more smoking areas, but walled them in (like the smoking area of the casino), so the smoke doesn't travel to other parts of the ship.

I Agree, but... "show me the money honey", would be their theme. Right? They are focused on what's going on NOW and that trend is no smoking. It's why some lines are leaning toward a non-smoking casino, non-smoking ship and a totally non-smoking cruise line. I believe it will happen and soon and encourage those who still are addicted to smoking, as I was 10 years ago, to Stop smoking if they want to continue cruising. It's a well known fact that smoking kills. I have a friend who has just been diagnosed with lung cancer and they are not alone... unfortunately. So sad, really, my heart breaks for them. :loudcry:

As I do feel for the OP ... this is music to my ears!!!

I am a non smoker; I have plenty of friends that due smoke including my husband - with cigars!

I am casino player and on next weeks Bliss departure.

I never complain about my counterparts smoking; but I’m not sorry to say I welcome this!!!

As far as hubby - he would extremely enjoy the “cigar” lounge being just that!!

We are so excited for next week!!

It seems to me that if you restrict the areas smokers can smoke to the point where it's too uncomfortable or inconvenient you will get more "cheating" and people sneaking smoking on balconies or in other public places. Switching to a non-scented vape is another option for smokers; it's easier to cheat with vaping because it can be very discrete without any smell. That could expose far more people to whatever second-hand effects the vaping has than the current system that has adequate places for people to smoke.

Someone vaping on their balcony isn't going to have any second hand health effects on anyone else. I am a non-smoker and would much prefer reduced open smoking on the ship (like apparently the Bliss has) and vaping allowed on balconies.

If you find it a long walk maybe you should think about giving it up

The latest statistics that I could find from the CDC shows that 15.5% of the US population smoked tobacco in 2016. So, let's say the downward trend has continued and we are in the 10-12% category in 2018, that means there are currently around 400 smokers on the Bliss right now. Having an outdoor smoking area that holds 20-30 people (from what I've read here on Cruise Critic) is just too small IMO. I understand those of you who are offended by smoke and the published health effects that go along with it. However, there are many of you who really shouldn't be casting any judgement or stones. As I like to say sometimes; "you pick your poison...I'll pick mine". Unless you NEVER use hairspray, perfume, cologne, aftershave, bug sprays with DEET, scented body lotions, air fresheners, etc., please refrain from telling me that my smoke from a cigarette being smoked outside, is doing more damage to you, than your nasty smelling, toxic chemicals that you apply inside of your cabins. Since both actions are still legal in the US, perhaps we should focus on trying to accommodate all people trying to enjoy themselves on their vacation. Smoking on a top deck, on the back of a ship seems like a reasonable concession for all concerned. Don't like the smoke, don't go to the top deck, rear of the ship. And to those in the aft rooms of the ship who will now jump down my throat...seriously?! Even with scrubbers, diesel exhaust will kill you first!

If you got sick from smokers smoking OUTSIDE- then you’d get sick from

Smokers smoking OUTSIDE all the time, cruise ship or not. 🤷🏻*♀️
