NOT QUITE LIVE! — MS Zuiderdam — NYC to QC

I notice that the balcony is not as deep as the SA’s in mid-ship but we have a wide-angle view and I like that.

The bad news is that sound carries from the hallway to our bed because it is not tucked around the wall. As well, the couch is a small pull-out in the corner. It is very uncomfortable. There aren’t as many drawers and shelves as the Neptune Suites on the Nieuw Amsterdam.

Thank you for the info on your cabin, Miss G . Is it a Signature or Neptune suite? I cannot imagine the noise nor the straight shot view from hall door to the bed. :o (We're booked on a Neptune suite on the Zuidy next year.)

I'm enjoying following your posts and photos. Smooth sailing!

Thank you Walfam! It is a Neptune Suite. I haven’t really heard anything from the hall since the first night. (In my mind I am trying to figure out how many nights I’ve been here. Hahaha. I don’t know what day it is until I get in the elevator.) We are on a bend so there doesn’t appear to be much traffic. I am adjusting. Still don’t like that couch.

Thanks for your comments Iggy! While I was taking the pictures above the fog horn blew right behind me. I got a few videos with it blowing. It was impressive. I wonder if I can upload them?

It is now 4:30. That’s what time our sail away is. I can see people still boarding from my chair on the balcony. They must have been on a HAL excursion. I can also see the airport! I had no idea it was there, the fog was so thick.

Captain Vaartjes has just made an announcement. We are still refueling so sailaway is now at 6:00 pm. Apparently there must be coordination with the airport because we are sailing directly in front of their landing strip. That must have been fairly exciting for them this morning because I saw squat through the fog. Oh sorry. Captain Vaartjes has just told us that they call them very low clouds. There are also very low clouds in Bar Harbor.

To continue...

I get my morning coffee in the Crows Nest. The Barista asks me if I am sure of my order because I didn’t get the same as yesterday. She’s good.

Yesterday and today I get the same questions from other passengers. “Where did you get your coffee?” They literally ask me that as I am standing beside the coffee bar. The visible presence of the new Explorations Cafe is literally abysmal. Today a man walked up to it and asked where they sell coffee.

We disembark and jump on the HOHO bus. I really like our driver but he only goes as far as Stop 1 where we have to get off and get on another bus. Bus driver # 2 is named Jules. She talks in a really fast monotone and puts people to sleep. When she is not boring us with the stories we can’t hear, she is admonishing us for things we haven’t done. Like getting off the bus; jaywalking; how we drive; why aren’t we getting off the bus?; jaywalking. I start calling them Jules’ Rules.

The architecture in this city is beautiful. There is a Freedom Festival going on. I can smell the pot. Coincidentally, we are now hungry. We finish the circuit and get off.

I had heard Quincy Market was the place to get lobster rolls. The crowds are horrendous and I decide that nothing is THAT good. We walk back to the harbor and stand in line at James Hook & Co. They have been in this location since 1925 so something’s keeping them in business. The lobster rolls are delicious. Unfortunately I forgot to take a picture. My bad.

Logan tower will actually "adjust" the landing pattern of inbound aircraft when Zuidy is outbound later! Enjoying your travel log! Keep up the good work!

Well, thank heavens for IG's post! You've been on the ship for a couple of days now, posted lots of pics but **NO** food porn. None! What kind of live-from is this anyway ;)?

And no, the shot of David Burke in the ATK looking askance at you DOESN'T count ;).

:’) Too funny.

DAY FOUR - BAR HARBOR

It seems that my internal alarm of 5:30 am is a set pattern. Here is the sunrise:

I take the stairs to the 10th deck. There is something magical and relaxing about early morning walks on a “HOLY SHIP!! FOGHORN!!!” I do the shimmy. Okay then. Well that’s taken care of. Time for coffee.

Bar Harbor is a tender port. Except there are very low clouds. Ain’t nobody getting off this ship. I decide to “do laundry.” “Doing laundry” consists of sorting items into groups and counting how many of them there are. Okay. Laundry done. What’s next?

Oh look! The fog very low clouds are lifting! We are not alone.

Have you ever lost something in your cabin? Well it’s hiding in plain site. Every time. You’re welcome.

Neptune Suites come with a separate tub and shower. There is also a shower in the tub. I really hate the standalone shower. I’m not sure if it’s the needle-like daggers of water trying to penetrate my epidermis or the billowing curtain trying to wrap itself around my body that I find more distasteful. I decide to shower in the tub. Except the temperature valve is stuck on screaming hot. It’s back to molesting-shower for me. I try not to think about it.

I tried that stand alone once.Nope, never again. Way too small (I have been in larger phone booths) and, worse yet, the curtain did not want to keep the water inside the shower. It billowed outward. Didn't even want to wrap itself around me. This, with the shower on low stream, not even close to "pressure washer" capacity. I ended up with a small lake outside the shower, on the bathroom floor, that I had to mop up, because I was pretty sure the cabin below us did not want water leaking down into their room. Not to mention safety hazard for us. Never again. Shower in tub was much roomier and safer.
