Just got our acceptance emails for our August 9 Navigator sailing. Doing the 3-day cruise with family, so we had booked two junior suites through a casino offer. I bid for both of our rooms, bid $165/pp for a GS and $200/pp for the OS. Both rooms got the OS. I was able to call and get our rooms moved so that we have two OSs next to each other. I am staying on for a B2B so I asked what would be the cost to just upgrade to the OS for the 2nd leg, but they said it would be $2,000 more for the two of us. No thank you! So I am now waiting to see if our Royal Up bid will be accepted for the 2nd part of this cruise.

Update! I received my Royal Up email today for the 2nd leg of our Navigator cruise. I bid $175/pp for a GS and $225/pp for the OS. I got the OS. We will have to change rooms, but that is ok!

In general do you get notified 48 hours before the sail date or 24 hours? I have read both, but what is the usual?

There's no usual on the acceptance message, but it's been fairly normal to receive the denial message around 7PM on the night before the sailing.

Interesting! I had called a few months ago and asked,  and they told me that if I received a late Royal Up upgrade, I could cancel the Key just by calling Royal Caribbean. Your email makes it sound like maybe you would get a refund but maybe you would not!

Put my question to the Royal Up email and cc'd corporate in aswell just because and got a response last night from Mike Bermudez regarding my issue. I feel better now and it's a reminder to me why I am loyal to Royal..

Just have to win the bid now! 😳

Dear Sir:
Thank you for contacting the Executive Office of Royal Caribbean International. Your correspondence was forwarded to my attention upon review, and I welcome the opportunity to respond.
I want to thank you for bringing this to our attention. I am forwarding your concern over to our operational team for their internal review as you bring up a very valid point.
Nevertheless, I fully understand your concern and should your bid be successful after the time to cancel 'The Key' has passed please let me know directly, and I will be happy to ensure you receive your $349.86 in full for The Key.

Best Regards,
Mike Bermudez

Great! I was surprised at the previous email you received, Glad you tried again and got this one. I had put in a bid last March for our Symphony cruise and had also bought the Key. I called Crown and Anchor to ask if the Key could be cancelled if I got a late notification that my bid was accepted and they had said Key cancellation would not be a problem. I did not get my bid accepted so I was glad that I had kept my Key purchase.

I got notified three weeks early.

Your rejection generally comes during last 24 hours

I would think that bid strength plays into when you get notified.  I think you said yours was a very strong bid so perhaps those folks get notified further in advance while others get notified closer to sail date while RCL hopes better bids come if before assigning the upgrades.

Sorry for the confusion;  the bid was $200 / pp minimum - based on double occupancy.  So as we are each traveling solo, the minimum bid I could put in was $400.  In the end, under $800 for a 4 night JS seems like a good deal to me.

Looking forward the cruise!

Thank you for answering a question I was just about to ask.  I'll be on Symphony Sept. 14 with family but I'll have my own cabin.  My travel agent emailed me yesterday with the Royal Up offer.  I had heard of this from reading CC but had never received one.  I'm booked in an inside so I have nowhere to go but up.  Since I booked this cruise through a TA, do I make bids through him, or directly on the RCL site.  He did include the link in the email. I emailed him to ask but haven't heard back yet.

You would bid by going through the link in the email.

I was very disappointed with Royal Up. We are leaving out of Miami on the 19th, on Navigator Of The Seas and I had put in two bids. Yesterday I received notice one of our bids was accepted. $100 each so $200 in total. I was expecting a room like the picture they had sent me, but the room we received is nothing like the picture. I think this is very misleading on their part. I would never have placed a bid, if I knew this was the room I would get. The spacious ocean view we received is nothing like this.

It would help if you post a photo of the Spacious ocean view room you got. Or even if you could describe the differences you notice with the picture.

Welcome to Cruise Critic- What type and category  of cabin were you originally in?  And what category  did you get?

Welcome to CC.

This has been discussed in various Royal Up related threads. One should not bid on a balcony (or OV in your case) if you already have one, exactly for the reasons you cite.

We were originally in a Oceanview no Balcony. We are now in room 8332 which looks to be just a normal spacious oceanview room.

I'm confused then, why the dissapointment?

Didnt you bid on both rooms. The description says either a larger room or a larger balcony?

Do you have a balcony?

Yes, the pictures seem to be standard, and the cabins aren't standard from ship to ship.

Bottom picture kind of looks like a JS

I thought so too.  I've never had a balcony that large on RCI.  But many of our Jr Stes have looked like that.  If you use a wide-angle lens.  lol

You went from an OV cabin to a balcony for $200  That doesn't sound bad to me

True, but it's a shortie

They did get a good location. 😎

When you board, just open the curtain... you should be able to see you have a balcony now.
