greenwaldsj Posted January 5, 2019 #1 Share Posted January 5, 2019 We were on the Caribbean Princess December 19th 14 day cruise and had a surprise free two free cover charges in a note slid under our door about midway through the cruise. We had booked directly with the cruise so it wasn't because of a TA or similar. I was wondering if anyone else had anything similar happen to them? It said: Section 81 Just a little gift to celebrate you today! 2 FREE cover charges at a specialty restaurant on board Congratulations On our bill, it was marked as "surprise" We used it on the Crown Gill Steakhouse, which was delicious, and indeed the two $29 cover charges were free.

Colo, originally we had been booked in an interior, but then paid an upgrade fee to a balcony. So no suite or anything like that.

Sea Hag Posted January 5, 2019 #5 Share Posted January 5, 2019 What a lovely surprise! No, we've never had anything like that happen. Won't be holding my breath waiting for it. 😃
skynight Posted January 5, 2019 #6 Share Posted January 5, 2019 Any idea what the "section 81" means? Did you frequent the casino? Sometimes they send comps.

Rare hllwdcruiser Posted January 5, 2019 #8 Share Posted January 5, 2019 On our last cruise on the Regal in 2017 we received a card midway through our trip offering us a gift of an 8X10 photo. I can't remember the exact wording but I think it was similar to yours. It was such a nice, unexpected surprise.
Rare Cruise Raider Posted January 5, 2019 #9 Share Posted January 5, 2019 Sweet .... you must have impressed somebody that had the authority to pass that along to you. You were probably seen being kind to someone and you were being rewarded for that.
LidoLiz Posted January 6, 2019 #10 Share Posted January 6, 2019 Yes, we had this happen to us on our last cruise to the ABCs in the spring of 2018, on the Ruby. We were inside cabin Riveria Forward, and not exactly big spenders (no casino gambling or on-board shopping). 🤔 What a lovely treat to receive a card in our cabin from Princess treating us to dinner for two at Sabatini’s! It was greatly appreciated!
Rare Coral Posted January 6, 2019 #11 Share Posted January 6, 2019 There was a thread a few months ago about others having a similar experience. Kudos to Princess for doing this. It is extra special touches that will make you consider Princess in the future. You sort of wonder if someone was having a bad day and you were really kind to them when they needed it or something like that. I wonder if the wait staff has the option to nominate people for this. It is pretty cool.
XBGuy Posted January 6, 2019 #12 Share Posted January 6, 2019 I'm beginning to hope that this remains a mystery.

Ep010835 Posted January 6, 2019 #16 Share Posted January 6, 2019 SCORE!!! 😃 Like skynight, I’m wondering the meaning of “Section 81”. A mystery.

I don't believe so. It wasn't worded like an offer, instead it was presented as a gift to make us feel special - which it did. There was absolutely no hard sell to buy any more photos. In 2017, when we received the card, other cruisers were reporting receiving similar cards in their cabins with differing gifts.

land lover Posted January 9, 2019 #21 Share Posted January 9, 2019 (edited) I agree what a nice surprise...maybe few reserving the specialty restaurants on that sailing so MD's on that ship are getting creative. 👐 Edited January 9, 2019 by land lover
masterty Posted January 9, 2019 #22 Share Posted January 9, 2019 This sounds like maybe the restaurants are trying to fill seats on a slow night(s) or itinerary. It is hard to sell something no one is interested in. Maybe this is nothing more than a program [lets call it "section 81"] that on itineraries with low attendance/reservations in the specialty restaurants they gift a SD to random pax.
