Who ARE these people??

Who the heck are these people in the Regent flyers, catalogs, and the website?  I've been on a few Regent cruises and I don't think I've seen more than 2 or 3 people who look even remotely like the people in their marketing materials.  I mean, most of the people I see on board look like...well, us.  Normal people.  Did Regent sponsor a 'model cruise' and snap photos all week?   What gives??

When we were on Navigator in November going from Montreal to Miami they had some “models” and shooting crew onboard.  It was kind of funny to watch.

When I was new to cruising (many, many years ago), the advice was to pay attention to the people in the brochures. Supposedly, it gave you a good idea as to what sort of people you'd be cruising with. Now I think the same models are in every cruise line's brochures. I don't see too many of them on my cruises though.

 

And although I haven't checked lately, I'll bet Carnival and Royal Caribbean's advertising doesn't feature 800 people jammed around the pool, or drunks in tank tops in the dining room. And yet, that's what you're liable to see.

 

So buyer beware.

I posted our experience concerning models on another Thread within the past month--but cannot recall which one. 

 

Anyway, more-or-less as memory continues to fade--

 

Voyager several years ago.  Two couples, escorted by the Captain, boarded when we were at port mid-way through the cruise.  All--including the Cpt, of course, dressed to the 9s.  The couples were in their late 40s or early 50s.  Later that afternoon, saw them again in a Lounge, this time with two camera guys and others putting up light panels.  Bingo.  Models.  They were about the ship for the next two days in various venues doing a photo shoot. 

 

Next port-of-call.  Gone. 

 

About six months later, saw them again in Regent advertising brochures.

Now we all know they are  “models” as most of the people on the cruise aren't that young, don't have that waistline and we could go on---however we all have a great time on the ship which is the most important thing in the ad.

So funny reading this! When we went up top for sail away from Miami, we noticed some very tall, beautiful young people, and I thought, Wow, maybe they DO have passengers that look like that. Minutes later we met Sunny (in charge of wardrobe, etc. For the shows, and she offhandedly mentioned the beautiful creatures around were the dancers.🤓Duh. I'm sure I would have figured it out for myself eventually

I read on CC some time ago that the same male "model" used on a Regent brochure was used in a competitor's brochure.

A few years ago, my then-wife and I were asked if we would mind posing for promotional photos around the ship. We agreed and, we had some fun. Not surprisingly, the pics were never used, as we looked nothing like the models in the published brochures!

When I was young and had the waistline, I didn’t have the disposable income to cruise luxury lines.  Not sure which I like better...   😁

Yep, that’s usually a giveaway...tall, thin, young?  Entertainers.

Many brochures still use beautiful middle aged or older models that look great.  No, one does not have to be in their 20’s or 30’s.  Botox and fillers can do the trick.  Trust me.😎

Probably not.  The orange & purple would clash with the ship’s decor.

On our very first cruise many (many!) years ago, on the Diamond, we met and spent time with a couple who were models!  They were given the cruise complimentary in exchange for modeling. As they said, it was a pretty good deal and fun!!  I still remember...it was a 7 day cruise, Puerto Rico/Puerto Rico. Very lovely and of course attractive couple in their late 30's.  Only once saw them doing a photo shoot poolside.  But we did see them in some future advertising for Radisson Cruises.  Cool!

My son was in a ad for Cruise West many years ago.  He was about 11 and super cute.  The naturalist was showing him a crab.  That was in the brochure and online ads they ran for several years, till they went bankrupt.

Look at a princess brochure, I’d say ave age around 40, fit capable of wearing a bikini withou masses people gouging their own eyes out, get on board ave age more like 70.

 

When we went on our first cruise we got home and a mate asked had I seen any white pointers (topless sunbathers) told him no thank goodness as they would have been grey nurses.

Ditto back in the day when the Paul Gaugin was still  a Radisson/Regent ship. They were painfully easy on the eyes, and generally kept to themselves. One member of the support staff rescued me from a potentially devastating wardrobe malfunction on Motu Mahana.

They get around a lot do these beautiful people. The same models used in many a Regent brochure were also in a Celebrity brochure. They also showed their glamorous faces on the hard sell speciality restaurant offers boards used by Celebrity on our cruise to Norway last year. Luckily they weren't actually on board. I have enough of an issue dealing with impossibly elegant Italians so the last thing I need is to sit next to supermodels when trying to eat my pasta.

 

And lo and behold they weren't on board Voyage in December either. Maybe they heard I was going to be there?

 

PS it was a wonderful cruise on Voyager and I keep thinking of writing up my newbie impressions, but then Christmas was in the way and then we went to New Zealand for 6 weeks. Suffice it to say that the cruise surpassed our high expectations. Only criticism is to tell Regent to make the jogging track go counter clockwise like every other running track in the civilised world. I can only corner fast going that way.

I've brought that up before as well.  It seems like they switch the arrows at random times to change direction...and there are ALWAYS still some people who consider it their right to go whichever way they want.  Just fries my potatoes...
