Day 2:   Sleep in,  Nassau, and French Onion Soup class.

Day two was a stop in Nassau, or Nassyawn as I like to call it.    We slept in a little late, especially since we broke even on the whole deluxe drink package after day 1.  :classic_blink:     Had a light breakfast in the Solarium Bistro.     The Bistro was a great spot for us.   Our rooms were on deck 11, port side, just forward of the forward elevators.    The bistro and Solarium area were a simple few floors up.    If you are a frequenter of the Solarium, this cabin location is the place to be.

Around noonish, we got off the ship to just walk around town for a bit.    We did that, bought a couple cheap trinkets, and headed back to the ship.   We took notice of a super yacht docked along side the cruise ships.   It was the Sunrays....280ft long, and worth over $100M.   A very sweet ride.

We had a late lunch at the Park Café, and I must say it was a big miss.    The roast beef sandwich was off, the Cuban was weak and the ladies said the salad mixings were stale.    We'll just say we hit it at a bad time.

Dinner was in the MDR again.   Once again the drink orders were messed up.   Main courses were typically good.   Some just good, others VERY good.   Four of us got the French Onion Soup again, and once again it was bland and frankly, poorly made.   The restaurant Mgr, Manuel, came by to see how it was today and we told him we sent it all back as it was a big miss again.   As we were having dessert (my special request of orange sherbet was there every night.   The Royal chocolate cake was also very good every night), Manuel came to the table with the Executive Chef.   The chef had a notebook and asked what our concerns with the soup was.   One of the ladies is a great chef and she walked him through what was not right.    He was polite said thank you and promised we would not be disappointed tomorrow.   More on that in the day 3 summary.

In the evening we saw Ocean Aria.  It was VERY VERY good.   The strength guys were amazing and the whole show was a great way to end the day.

No pictures today.   We were very lazy.   In fact we excelled at lazy all week.

Tomorrow:   Chair Hogs?   Not on this trip.   Comedy show hit and miss.

I read the title and was expecting something totally different. Hens in the UK has a different meaning, just googled and it seems you call them Bachelorettes!  Thought you were all on a party cruise:classic_biggrin:

Following to find out what happened with the soup, it's one of my favourites too.

We get enough British TV and Daily Mail headlines here in the US that I thought the same as you.

I tried the French Onion soup once on RC and decided it was a one and done.

Can't wait to hear more - including if the soup improved!  Yes I'm supposed to be getting all my work in order for being off next week but I'm in a cruising state of mind already! 🙂

Day 3:  at Sea & the French Revolution

Day 3 was a sea day, so the night of day two was a long one.    I stayed up until 2am playing poker in the Casino.   1-3 no limit.    House takes a crazy 10% rake but got lucky and played with mostly the same guys all week made for a fun late night.

That said, we rolled out of bed late....I did at least.  Mama was her crazy self and up early to walk the track for a zillion miles.    I barely made it up in time to get the last of breakfast in the Solarium Bistro.     Afterward, we planned to meet our crew in the Solarium for some sunning.  We were afraid of a chair hog issue but it turned out to be just the opposite...as our lead began to wander the area looking for loungers, a crew of older ladies said “we’re getting up if you want our chairs.  Six in a row, dead center of the Solarium, up by the windows.   BINGO !!     We spent some time sunning, then a few of us tried the pool and the human stew tank.  As always, it’s way to easy to make friends in the hot tub.   Some chatting and a blue Hawaiian and we were fully cooked.   Spent the rest of the afternoon on our balcony napping and reading.

We all met met at our 530 dinner time at our table in the MDR.   Our table was #503, by the windows, port side.  Our server was Sally and she was magnificent all week.    Tonight,  we didn’t even have to order French onion Soup.   It came without asking.   After we all had a taste we declared.....Tres Bon!!  Maginfique!!!    The chef hit the nail on the head.  A much richer broth, you could taste a hint of the Cherry, onion in every spoonful.    They did a great job listening to us.   I asked if he changed the recipie for the whole room, and sadly they said no.   They made ours special to order.    We loved it but wish the rest of the room could taste this flavorful soup.

A summary of MDR hits and misses....

HITS

— The updates French Onion Soup

— the Pablano pepper and corn soup

— The beef tenderloin

— The salmon main course

— The beef carpaccio was unbelieveable

— braised short ribs

— other things I can’t remember right now

— Spaghetti Bolognese....very tasty as a side dish

— Vidalia  Onion Tart....so good I had 2

MISSES

— Potato Soup....tasted gritty

— French Onion Soup for the masses

— chicken marsala

— lasagna and Tagliatelli.....just not up to my Italian mates standards.

After dinner we caught the early comedy show.   We were booked for the 9pm seating but go in on stand by for the early show.   It is a very small room so do make reservations if you want to see it.    Two comics. A Greek guy named Basil.   A guy from Boston who was very forgettable.    Basile was very funny and consistently so. The Boston guy was an insult comic and not funny.   One of my crew called him a “Masshole”.    After the show, we all went to see Kareme for a drink.   Ladies went to bed afterward and a few guys went to solve the worlds problems again.

Tomorrow:  Moy, Cozumel was a better than we thought!!

Found the pic of the Yacht Sunrays that was docked in Nassau.

Some my regulars ate from the poker table.

Bummer no one else got the soup but hopefully they took your advice on the soup for future travelers!  So glad it hit the mark!  Another great day/night recap!

It is a bummer about the French Onion soup comment being a miss for the masses! So the chef didn't fix the problem at least on their cruise. Not impressed.  Guess we'll see how the French Onion soup is on our upcoming B2B cruise on the Freedom. I've always been a fan of RC and Celebrity's French Onion soup.

I will say that the French Onion Soup has been one of our favorites on other RCL cruises.    It just really missed the mark here....until we fixed it :classic_wacko:
