Thrill Waterpark Full Day Pass Prices Getting Ridiculous

Personally I suspect they are raising the new Thrill Water Park prices on larger ships to manage participation.  People are paying it but when too many people do it becomes less valuable because of long lines.  Then people complain about that.

Kind of like the dynamic pricing for HOT lanes in Atlanta.

When they start to fill up, the price skyrockets.

I've seen some sections on 85 north got from $2 to $12 in a heartbeat

I believe South Beach will be open, but Coco Beach Club right next door with the infinity pool will be limited to Coco Beach Club Cabanas guests.  Think the current cabana prices are high?  From what a revenue manager suggested to me last week get some cheese ready and stay tuned for the whining.

75 is quite respectable still but I-66 in Northern Virginia has hit $50+

Good old fashioned Supply and Demand. Basic economics 101.

Water park cabanas for my Dec 2020 cruise (16 mo out) are $1000 as of today. This is up more than 50% than they were 72 hours ago - I look at cruise planner daily for shits and giggles.

That's not too bad as the water park cabanas include the water park pass.

Oasis Lagoon cabanas do not include any pass.

They do, but the price jump floored me. Maybe I should have pulled the trigger earlier this week, lol. But there’s only 3 of us and our entire family has been scarred by a trip to GWL gone bad. We’ll still probably stick with the free stuff. 🙂

I have not seen anything that states otherwise. Who knows?

It looked like you had to transfer from the little golf carts that serve the pier, to the big trams that go around the island.

That is what I thought too, and then my Aunt went from ship to Oasis Lagoon on the big tram. I like the walking, although the trip back to the ship is killer for me in the afternoon heat.

I thought that I read somewhere that access to Coco Beach Club was going to be relatively inexpensive, and limited in numbers. While I do not find value in paying for any of this... this price list states adults will be $54-$99 per person. I guess that is not horrible, and of course I know, especially lately... anything can change. It will be interesting to see what people think of that area. I can only imagine what the over water cabana costs will be after seeing the pricing for cabanas.

Combined that was $63 in 2017 for one hour in the Aqua Park and your choice of left, right or center slide.

Personally I suspect they are raising the new Thrill Water Park prices on larger ships to manage participation.  People are paying it but when too many people do it becomes less valuable because of long lines.  Then people complain about that.

Also note what's missing in that first picture - umbrellas.  They used to be $20-$25 for the day.  Now they are free and all over the place.

I remember paying $20 to use that slide for the day.  I agree with you that they are charging more for the larger ships to keep too many people from purchasing.  People get mad when they buy the passes and have to wait an hour in line to ride one slide.

Weirdly, the water park cabanas are the cheapest cabanas by far, even though they include the water park passes.

According to my cruise planner:

Oasis Lagoon cabanas - $749

Chill Island cabanas - $649

Thrill Water Park cabanas with full day pass - $349

The water park cabanas are good for up to 6 people and with the park passes at $47 a person, if you have 6 people, you're really only paying an additional $50 for the cabana.  That's not such a bad deal.  But like SRF said, way too much for a single couple.

Heck, I would probably book a Thrill Park with water park for $349.

Then try to share with a couple or two from the roll call.

But $999 is a bit steep to get stuck with.  And to tie up the money for nearly a year.

Isn’t the whole point of a cabana to escape the crowds in a rather private way? Maybe it’s just me but I couldn’t fathom sharing my personal space with another stranger.

I have been twice to Coco since the changes. I love the place and both times I have done the Oasis Lagoon and spent nothing. I am going again solo in September and plan on doing the same thing.

@Mikew0805, try to leave Mariner and Coco Cay in decent shape for me next month.  I'm getting on Mariner as you're getting off her, and we have a wedding scheduled for Coco Cay!

For my July 2020 cruise, the zipline and the helium balloon is available to book, but not the thrill park ticket nor any of these cabanas.  How far in advance do you they typically list them for booking?

Unfortunately, there's no "typically" when it comes to Royal making items available for pre-cruise booking.  Keep checking.

No worries. It is going to be a strictly relaxing getaway. I am going solo, so I envision A LOT of sleeping.  Sleep, gym, eat... repeat. Maybe some casino time in there as well.

A wedding on Coco? I bet that will be nice. I didn't know they did weddings there.

If they can make money at it, they'll do it!

If you look at the photo at the end of this post from @twangster's Empress B2B thread, you can see the little gazebo/stage they have set up on the beach, with the ship in the background.

The bride and groom met on Enchantment, got engaged on the beach at Coco Cay, and are getting married on the beach at Coco Cay... a true Royal Couple!  ❤️

Ahhh.. I know who you are referring to. Congrats to them.  That is a perfect place for a wedding, picture looks great, and what a back drop! 🙂

I'm going on the groom's bachelor cruise next weekend, Dorian permitting.

I have 3 kids, ages 15, 13, and 11.  Luckily, they agree with me that it’s crazy to go to a water park when there is a beach right there.  We can go to a water park anytime. But, we don’t live close to a beach and only get to see the ocean once or twice a year, so a water park is a waist of time.

Sensible

Have a blast on Navigator.... tell the groom "some weird redhead told me to tell you to drink more water" -- he and his brother will both get a chuckle over that!

Hopefully they could become friends.  A couple of years ago, we met a couple on board and became friends.  They invited us to share their cabana.  It worked well.

But also, with the water park, it is likely the coming and going, there will not be that much time when everyone is there.

Last year, my son and I were seated at dinner with a family whose two daughters were also high school age.  We all got along well, and they invited us to join them in their cabana at Nellie's Beach in Labadee, since six people were allowed and they only had four in their family.

It worked out great, and the attendant made more money because he got tips from both families. We were all coming and going -- to the coaster, to the water, to the market area, etc. -- throughout the day, so it never felt crowded or weird.
