that wasn't my question... please read my post

I have been able to do the check in for myself and do in 1 app..1 login...only time we needed him to have separate login was when princess gave away 1 free drink and each user had to sign in to get theirs....now with that said the current new app has us doing specialty restaurant bookings but so far is only showing mine under me...which is just stupid what couple books specialty dining separately...princess needs to correct this

You both need the Medallion  and an app on each phone .  That’s because if your wife orders a latte, she will want it to come to her, not you.  She will order it on the app that’s tied to her and the server will find her.  It’s different than the “Cruise Personalizer” web page where everything was centralized under one booking.

But...are we sure about that? The couple traveling with us next summer have one cell phone. He doesn't have one, she does. They won't be getting the drink package. They will each have the medallion, but I would think she could just have the cell phone and order anything they needed. This guy has never even been on the internet....so pretty sure he won't be carrying a phone.

Also, our grandkids will have medallions ( I think? maybe?), but at 2 and 5, they won't be carrying cell phones....

we just sign out of the app and the other one signs in.  But then again usually DH and I are together most of the time.

So in reality until the start of sailings next month, we really don't know, now with the requirement to check in through the app, if we'll each person needs a mobile device with their own app to check in

I agree with the one device comment,  the only time in the past with the old OceanReady app we tried to use Medallion, you could use one phone for all passengers to board, as it turned out though when we arrived to board the Royal in FLL, the entire system had crashed, and they were checking in everyone by hand....

But with the new iteration of the Medallionclass app, and the absolute requirement for every passenger to use it, I'm hoping there's a definitive answer coming soon. --> 1 device or 2 ?

Ok, I’ll add my experience.  We are on the Ruby in September in a suite.  One of the benefits of a suite is free speciality restaurant on the day of embarkation.  Another passenger on our cruise said they were able to do this and get the restaurant for free as the $29 fee had a $29 credit.

When I tried it for the two of us, it wouldn’t do that, it wanted to charge us both $29, no “free”.  So I asked the other passenger how he did it.  He explained that he went in and made a single reservation for himself for the first night at $29 and got the “credit” which erased it.  So I tried that and it worked.  However, using my app on my phone, I tried selecting my wife who is listed as a “companion” on my app, and making a separate single reservation.  No go, $29 fee no credit.  So I set up my wife’s iPhone separately as “her” (logged in using our booking number), and filled in her iPhone number, address etc.  Then I tried booking her as a single speciality restaurant reservation at the same time as I had already booked me.  Worked like a charm!  Got the credit which erased the charges.  So we have two independent reservations at the same time, but both are free.  Don’t know whether this applies to everything, but it is how it’s working now.  Maybe if you logged out of you, and then logged in separately as your wife with a different login, you could get this to work on one phone, but I didn’t try that.

A for effort...but quite frankly...that's an incredible amount of time spent working on beating the "system". Likely some folks time is worth far more than $29, especially with plenty of other choices onboard. Enjoy.

In the past full suite passengers never required a 1st evening specialty dining reservation. They just called the dining line or concierge on Royal Class ships, once on board. There were always enough tables for full suite passengers.

I agree - we just go to the Grill upon boarding and tell them when we are coming or just show up when we feel like it never been turned away

I believe you mean September 2019 on the Ruby...

As of April 2021, there is a complete new version of the Medallionclass app, in fact the previous onboard "Ocean Ready app" no longer even exists making most previous anecdotal app experiences somewhat less concrete.

I feel until there is current new real world use, we all just have wait til next month for updates on current practicalities.

While noted above it was complicated to pre reserve the suite speciality restaurant for free, my point is that functionally, the app/Medallion are duplicating the old “key card” that you and your wife had.  Two are needed so she can go buy diamonds in the jewelry shop, while you have a beer in the bar.  I should make it clear.  I booked “Share” the other speciality restaurant for two using my app on my phone, and can book the dining room for dinner each night for a reservation of 2.  The complicated part was only the “free” speciality restaurant suite benefit.  I am using the current IOS Medallion app.  Norm

The app and medallion are two different things.  You will each have your own medallion specifically identifying each of you.  No worries, your DW can still buy you jewelry while you buy your DW a beer in the Wheelhouse.  😄

Well said!  Yes they are two different things, but they work together.  If I’m a at Crooners and want to order a drink, I can do that on the app and a server will bring it to me.  But she will need my Medallion to pay for it.  Some people talked about the servers “tap” the Medallion to complete the transaction.  Norm

You're confusing me now.  DW's medallion will just be linked to the onboard account for your stateroom.  If I'm at Crooners, the wait staff was always very attentive. (Don't forget to ask for a complimentary stuffed olive tray - it's great!)  Your medallion will tap for your beer at Crooners and DW's Jewelry purchase will go from her medallion tap to the stateroom account just like your beer.  You both get the fun on the night before the disembarkation night when the piece of paper gets slipped under the door.

The good part of having the app with you is that you can view your stateroom account as often as you like on your device.

Don't understand what you trying to say. If you want a drink at Crooners you will have two ways to obtain it. Call over a waiter and order the drink you want, or use the app and order the drink. In both cases the waiter's tablet recognizes you. It recognizes you by the signal the medallion sends out, just like your cabin door recognizes you. Your photo shows on the their tablet screen. The waiter may ask you to confirm your cabin number and completes the transaction.

If your wife orders a drink, purchases something at a shop, plays a casino game and so on she uses her medallion. The same process occurs. If you and the wife's accounts are linked, most couples are, then it all merges together in the end. Your wife will never require your medallion to purchase anything on the ship. She has her own.

I guess I got misinterpreted.  I am well aware that all charges are going to one bill at the end.  I never meant to imply that there would be two bills.  I was trying to point out that you can do things with the app, like drink orders that wouldn’t be possible with the old key card.  I still think there’s added functionality by having the app while on board, and not just the Medallion.  The Medallion lets you pay for anything.  The app lets you order things even before finding a server.  My choice of Crooners wasn’t a good example because it’s so small.  Out on the Lido deck with a hundred other people, you may want to use the app rather than wait for a server to come around to you or you may walk up to the bar and order.  You have choices!  Thanks.  Norm

Norm,

One of the great advantages to using the app onboard is that you now can have the ability to track where DW is and run from Crooners to the jewelry store or art gallery before too much damage can be done.  🤑  Conversely, if DW has the app as well, she can find you in the casino before too much damage can be done... 😒

I just want to know if she's still at the Knitters and Natters meeting before I head clear across the ship. It's annoying when I do that only to find she has left to go to the cabin and we've crossed paths somewhere. Being able to locate her (and be located by her) seems like a good thing to me. If her meeting is in Crooner's and I can not only know she will be there can but also order an Extra Spicy Bloody Mary  or a Tanqueray and Tonic to be ready when I get there then it's definitely a plus.

Well, this was all good in theory.  On my only MC cruise in February 2020, I would use the app to locate two members of our party.  Great!  There they are at the Outrigger Bar in Horizon Terrace all the way aft on Deck 16.  By the time I got there to join them for a drink, they were nowhere to be found.  OK, so now they are down at the Guest Services Desk on Deck 6.  I race to meet them there to no avail, they are nowhere to be seen.  Aha! they are now at the Art gallery on Deck 7.  Well, you know what happened - not there either.  So, it is time to give up the scavenger hunt and return to my stateroom to get ready for dinner now that my pre-dinner cocktail time has been lost at sea...  I'm showing DW how the tracker doesn't seem to be as accurate as claimed when I now see they are in their cabin next door and they have been there for at least 15 minutes or so.  At least I got my exercise for the day.  🙄

I don't think the tracker is always showing a current location.  I think you need to be at one location for a certain period of time before it displays your new location but before then it would display the prior location until it gets an update.

I DO like the feature, but I agree....there is a "delay" in it. I used it on our last cruise just to see how it worked. DH went to get a slice of pizza and I was sitting on the back deck. He got back before the app had him back. I do think it will be helpful to track the couple cruising with us on our cruise next summer....they are more sit and stay in one spot kind of people. 😀

OK - I am able to change my emergency info and add profile picture and avatar but I see no place to put in passport data.  If my personalizer had my active passport would I assume that I don't have to worry about it ?
