Anthem of the seas 1-27-2020. What a mess

Recommended Posts

We woke up after a 11 day cruise to FoxNews showing our ship docking in Bayonne friday morning with possible cases of corona virus aboard. After searching the news with information regarding the passengers that are being tested for the virus I find a story regarding a crew member found onboard dead half way thru our sailing and they are awaiting autopsy results before the next cruise can depart. I am Diamond Plus on royal so obviously I am a big fan and supporter ,but i can honestly say I am pissed beyond words at this moment. We were never told anything about the possible corona virus patients onboard. we were not given any information at all regarding any off this. If I had known the possibility existed for this virus to be onboard I would have personally spent a lot more time in my room. This was so poorly handled by RCCL I am beyond mad. AS of this moment we feel we are sitting on a powder can with the fuse lit. I figured we would get an email with maybe more details when we returned home but have received absolutely nothing. All they seem to be worried about is when the next cruise sets sail and the casino open. But yet 4900 people were let off a ship possibly exposed to this virus without a word. Not to mention a health of unknown origin aboard. I am really soured at this moment.

What would you have liked them to tell you and how much hysteria do you think that would have set off?

I am sorry you had to go through this but what could they have done realistically knowing that they are caught between a rock and hard place.

And yes this company you love and are loyal to cares about money and lots of it just like every other company.

They are doing an autopsy. That is all. Nothing pointing to coronavirus.

The death and autopsy aside, they did feel the need to quarantine 12 people at the end of that sailing who presumably were all over the ship and had close contact with many people.

My comment pertains to the worker found deceased.

Stick93 as I indicated in the original post. I would at the least have expected an email on my return home, maybe giving details about when the persons became sick, so that we could be cognizant of the 14 day incubation period.any information would be helpful but we got nothing.

In the US there is a little thing called HIPAA. So unfortunately without consent and probably going through their legal team they can’t mention anything.  Good news from the post above the 4 cases are not corona according to the news

We all safe now that the CDC has confirmed that there were no infected passengers on the beautiful Anthem of the Seas. Time to move on.

🍸Cheers!!

Four out of 12 being tested. Your celebration is a bit premature.

HIPAA has no impact on an employer disclosing the type of illness an employee has/had.

I understand - I just think they had a very hard decision to make. I have to also think mass chaos would have ensued if they would have made an announcement.

they will lose no matter what they do.

If everything is fine and dandy now then why isn't the ship sailing tomorrow......why are they waiting yet another day until Monday?  I see the delay as this cruise is still questionable about them sailing on Monday? Does anyone else see it that way?

You are telling me they take 12 people off the ship and only test four?

More than likely only 4 were showing symptoms of being ill, and the others were close family members.

Exactly,  The 12 were traveling together.  Four were taken to the hospital for tests.  One tested positive for influenza A.  The others are now confirmed negative for coronavirus.

Think of it as being like a teenager who pulls the sliding board at the children's pool out of its supports and throws it overboard.  You will see his entire family being disembarked at the next port, yet only one person committed the vandalism.  😄

I understood that and was not trying to negate your comment. I was just musing that the OP's overall  concerns are not invalid.

I didn't think his overall concerns were invalid either, but I also could feel OPs distress and I didn't think that weighing in (on the other concerns) was going to help matters. If I were OP, I would have wanted to know things too, but NJ/NY is a tough crowd. Can you imagine the captain announcing 'possible coronavirus'? It would be immediate chaos. They did quarantine the individuals (as well as they could) and I hope that they were doing upgraded cleaning.

It's still early and this is not the last time something like this will happen.

Scratching my head wondering what being Diamond Plus has to do with Coronavirus or a dead crew member (RIP).  You sure this isn’t residual pent up anger from being denied access to CL?

In my opinion

I suspect the mentioning of C&A level was to show that the OP has a history with the company and, obviously, likes the product. It provides a bit of insight into the person who has the complaint.

In my opinion

I may have missed something somewhere but.......

After reading many posts on different threads I keep wondering if these same people that test negative now could test positive later?  With a known incubation period can the test determine that a person won't get the virus at all?  And wouldn't all passengers have to be tested?

Seems I read somewhere that people may not show symptoms at all but can be contagious.  Isn't that why the passengers on the Diamond Princess are being quarantined for 14 days?

This post makes to much sense to defy logic.  No one can understand what the CDC or Royal Caribbean is thinking. Pretty much fly by the seat of your pants on this one.
