P&O Cruisers - What are things like where YOU are?

Just to see if this subject is acceptable - I know a couple of you have holiday lodges in North Wales.  Reading about them reminded me of my youth (you all know it was ages ago) when we lived in Cheshire, and used to travel by train to the North Wales coast, where we rented one year a converted coach, and another a converted railway carriage, right by the beach in Talacre - near Prestatyn.  I was probably about 10, and loved it.  Mum and Dad and three of us.  Very cheap and cheerful, but fun.  Quite exotic to a child who lived in a 'normal' house.  Anyone else had similar holidays?

Ooh Talacre. What great funny memories I have of that place @lincslady.

Like you I was 10 when we went there for our summer holiday. We stayed in a small caravan hidden in a small knot of trees on the right of the road close to the arcade. We had to be careful passing the arcade as the big teenagers hung out there and we were only allowed in with our mum.

I actually celebrated my 10th birthday there and as a treat my mum took me on the train to the amusement park for the afternoon (I can't for the life of me remember if it was Prestatyn or Rhyl) leaving my older sister (12) in charge of my younger sister (8)- she couldn't afford to take us all.

The beaches were magnificent, and except for the time I lost my big red birthday beach ball after chasing it along the sands forever, we spent most days camped out between our set of sand dunes happy as can be.

We made friends on a Caribbean cruise with a couple from Rhyl a couple of years ago and when we went to visit them we did a side trip to Talacre. I was disappointed, it had become popular, and was no longer the little forgotten woe begone village at the end of the world. It had also become something for scientists to research so there were board walks everywhere instead of wide open beaches

Thanks for making me smile at such good memories Lincslady. Talacre is one of those places I never expect anyone else to have ever heard of.

Cheers, heather.

Another sunny day here, we have a cracking tan going on and not quite a week in. We had a lovely meal out last night to celebrate my birthday, not quite caught Kalos up (happy birthday Kalos, assume it was recently now you are an official pensioner). They seem to be easing the rules here in the Canaries, we took the service bus to Arrecife yesterday had a walk along the front to see if any cruise ships in, just one small French one, it was noticeable that quite a few had masks on outside which isn't happening in Puerto del Carmen. We have found a bar that is showing the Town v Blades match tomorrow so will give that an eyeball, might even get Mrs YP off her lounger for that one. Keep safe everyone.

Happy belated birthday Phil

  • Host Anne locked and unlocked this topic

Good morning I hope everyone's ok:classic_smile: I see this thread got locked and unlocked overnight :classic_ohmy:

I suppose it's good security practice but that gets me thinking where is our lovely

@Host Sharon got to :classic_unsure: ?   She has been through a lot with her heart operation and

I hope she is doing ok and nothing to do with recent events

As Wowzz mention chips I thought that could be my thought for today "Chips" :classic_unsure:

Fish & chips to be precise ,compared to last week the same meal at our chippy  has gone

up 50.p more :classic_mellow: There was a lot on the news about it but I thought I would mention it

just incase you were going to your chippy ,take more cash if not paying by card .

Take care and be safe (and secure :classic_wink:)  :classic_love:

Morning everybody.  Happy Saturday.

Oddly, but perhaps unsurprisingly, we seem to be missing somebody of late.  Missing might not be quite the right word......😉

That had crossed my mind too….

middlehaitch - lovely to hear from you - and presumably some time since then you have moved to  Canada.   (We have been comparing notes about childhood seaside visits to North Wales).

I guess the funny old converted buses and railway carriages disappeared many many years ago.  They seemed great to us in the years when we still had food rationing!  I wonder if anyone else on here is old enough to remember them?

Maybe, like me, you enjoy this board and thread because it is essentially British. Reminds you of the old country perhaps? .

Our weather at present is coldish, though not really winter; a slight feeling of spring in the air.

Morning.

I need to tear myself away from the Olympics speed skating and get moving. Need to pick up a prescription for daughter, which means we’ll get to wave to little grandson and make him cry when we don’t go in to play. She gets her prescriptions sent to our nearest Boots which always seems to have at least a half hour queue even if there’s only one person in front of you! I’ll leave hubby in the queue while I browse the make up 😂

It’s 14 weeks until our cruise, the closest we’ve got out of our 3 attempts at cruising so I reckon it’s time to start putting bits aside in toiletries bags etc.
