Rare bobmacliberty Posted May 7, 2021 #15777 Share Posted May 7, 2021 My Doug Flutie story... My brother got married in Buffalo in the late 80s and had his reception at a Marriott hotel. It was one of those big conference areas that can be divided into rooms with movable walls. The place was split into 2 large rooms, one for my brother's reception and one for the New England Patriots who were in town to play the Bills. Flutie was playing for the Patriots at the time. Both sides of my family are from the Boston area (I was born in Newton-Wellesley hospital) and almost all of my relatives still lived there. When the Boston based attendees at the reception learned that the Pats (especially Doug Flutie) were in the next room many people (especially women) decided to crash the Pats event. I couldn't believe how many, let's call them middle aged, women were Swooning over Flutie. He definitely had the "it" factor when it came to women.

When I was in my 20's, my friends and I used to have a ritual about going to the hottest new bars in downtown Toronto on Thursday nights. The bars would be "the Place to Go" for a year or two and then the next place got to be "The Place to Go" These bars were always crowded, very loud, and the young ladies were smoking hot (That's why we went!) Back then, Wayne Gretzky was single and playing for the Oilers. Well one night around 10 o'clock, Wayne and a couple of the other Oilers came into the bar that we were at. They were playing the Maple Leafs on the Saturday night and I guess they just got into town and asked to go the the hottest bar around. As they walked in, the place went totally silent. Literally, you could hear a pin drop. Then, a couple of seconds later, it seemed like every hot girl in the place, left the poor guy who was trying to chat her up, and beelined it over to Wayne. They weren't interest in his two buddies, only Wayne. The guy was mobbed by all these girls and man, he had the biggest smile on his face. 🙂 Wayne and group left about 40 minutes later with a bunch of the girls. Let's just say, from what I saw that night, Wayne didn't score all his hat tricks on the ice! Edited May 7, 2021 by DirtyDawg

Just the other day I've seen her on TV, updating about the newest treatments -- it seems that now they are implanting some device into the eye, which slowly release the med, and you have to "replenish" it every 6 months. Beats doing it monthly, for sure. At the time, mom got Avastin with very good results.

Rare island lady Posted May 7, 2021 #15790 Share Posted May 7, 2021 Walking wine and "food" tour was not that good on Wednesday, decent wine...but very lame food pairing. Best of the week was yesterday at rather new Comstock Winery in Dry Creek Valley. Reservations for private wine tasting paired with Chef's choice Tapas platter. Fantastic service, great wines, and wonderful Tapas. Had a great time. Pictures from there.

They usually gloated about the flowers blooming in February and complained about cutting their lawn for months longer than us. I sent a few texts that week. 😉

I friend of mine lived in Dallas for a few years and told me that, in the summer, he had to put big blocks of ice into his pool to cool it down. Any truth to that? I ask because he's in marketing and those folks are good at spinning stories. Edited May 7, 2021 by DirtyDawg

Yes , can get pretty hot , when it gets over 105 pool is sought of a large hot tub , hasn’t been that bad most years. Good thing is we can use our pool about 6 months out of the year, I do have a heater but rarely use it.

I know we are totally in the minority but we really dislike Disney world, only went there last time for a family wedding and then the groom didn’t show up , too crowded and not enough bars .
