Royal Caribbean Cruisers -- How Are Things Where You Are? (was "Routine" 😁 day in lockdown... how was yours?)

My Doug Flutie story... My brother got married in Buffalo in the late 80s and had his reception at a Marriott hotel.  It was one of those big conference areas that can be divided into rooms with movable walls.  The place was split into 2 large rooms, one for my brother's reception and one for the New England Patriots who were in town to play the Bills.  Flutie was playing for the Patriots at the time.  Both sides of my family are from the Boston area (I was born in Newton-Wellesley hospital) and almost all of my relatives still lived there.  When the Boston based attendees at the reception learned that the Pats (especially Doug Flutie) were in the next room many people (especially women) decided to crash the Pats event.  I couldn't believe how many, let's call them middle aged, women were Swooning over Flutie.  He definitely had the "it" factor when it came to women.

A family friend who retired a few years ago decided to go back to college for a Masters degree at age 66.He has no desire to do anything with it .

You have given me a an idea with what to do after I retire this fall. Hmmmm... what degree would be interesting to get? Art history?, tourism management, popular culture, history?????

Some athletes seem to have the it factor. When I was in my 20's, my friends and I used to have a ritual about going to the hottest new bars in downtown Toronto on Thursday nights. The bars would be "the Place to Go" for a year or two and then the next place got to be "The Place to Go" These bars were always crowded, very loud, and the young ladies were smoking hot (That's why we went!) Back then, Wayne Gretzky was single and playing for the Oilers. Well one night around 10 o'clock,  Wayne and a couple of the other Oilers came into the bar that we were at. They were playing the Maple Leafs on the Saturday night and I guess they just got into town and asked to go the the hottest bar around. As they walked in, the place went totally silent. Literally, you could hear a pin drop. Then, a couple of seconds later, it seemed like every hot girl in the place, left the poor guy who was trying to chat her up, and beelined it over to Wayne. They weren't interest in his two buddies, only Wayne. The guy was mobbed by all these girls and man, he had the biggest smile on his face. 🙂

Wayne and group left about 40 minutes later with a bunch of the girls. Let's just say, from what I saw that night, Wayne didn't score all his hat tricks on the ice!

For some citizens of BC, they might consider it to be comparable.😉

Us folks from the greater Vancouver area of BC tend to be pretty soft when it comes to tolerating weather.  A prediction of over 1cm of snow anywhere in the region and the local radio station turns into "Storm Central".

Go Boston College Eagles.  Our older son is a graduate of BC.

Doug Flutie had a great CFL career.  I was a season ticket holder back then and I loved him when he played in BC(British Columbia not Boston College). He had a brother, Darren, who also played for BC and had a good CFL career.

My older brother has that

If your bro has the "wet" version --

When I was managing the eye clinic, my "boss" (world renowned AMD specialist) was injecting Avastin, then Lucentis, then Eylea. This was done monthly.

Just the other day I've seen her on TV, updating about the newest treatments -- it seems that now they are implanting some device into the eye, which slowly release the med, and you have to "replenish" it every 6 months. Beats doing it monthly, for sure.

At the time, mom got Avastin with very good results.

Other than being near sighted, my eye problem is dry eye, which makes me tear up a lot. An oxymoron. Go figure

I think Gretzky did OK, both professionally and personally.

Walking wine and "food" tour was not that good on Wednesday, decent wine...but very lame food pairing.

Best of the week was yesterday at rather new Comstock Winery in Dry Creek Valley.  Reservations for private wine tasting paired with Chef's choice Tapas platter.  Fantastic service, great wines, and wonderful Tapas.  Had a great time.  Pictures from there.

Friends of mine in Chilliwack were crying a few years ago when they had the -20C cold spell with snow for a week. They usually gloated about the flowers blooming in February and complained about cutting their lawn for months longer than us. I sent a few texts that week. 😉

We are sunny and will be mid 80’s today and slightly warmer tomorrow, having our pool replastered in the next month.

I friend of mine lived in Dallas for a few years and told me that, in the summer, he had to put big blocks of ice into his pool to cool it down. Any truth to that?

I ask because he's in marketing and those folks are good at spinning stories.

Yes , can get pretty hot , when it gets over 105 pool is sought of a large hot tub , hasn’t been that bad most years.  Good thing is we can use our pool about 6 months out of the year, I do have a heater but rarely use it.

Speaking of Disneyland...

Going to venture out and check out Disneyland next week since DH decided this was a good time to hang up his scrubs and officially retire.  Time to have some fun at the Happiest Place On Earth.

I know we are totally in the minority but we really dislike Disney world, only went there last time for a family wedding and then the groom didn’t show up , too crowded and not enough bars .

Have you got your reservation yet?  I tried the other day and got frustrated.  It seemed like there were appointments for DCA but I couldn't get it to work.
