Price increases

I have a TA cruise booked for Apr 2021 on the JADE. My sister is my travel agent, and she is constantly monitoring the price of my cruise to see if she can get me a better deal. On Friday with the release of the increased OBC offer, the price of my cabin (class BA balcony on deck 10) is over $1,300 higher than the price we have booked. Is this how they enforce the proposed reduce capacity of the ships to account for social distancing?

Anytime they offer a sale or a deal they just raise the base price to cover that “deal” and then some. Nobody who watches prices falls for it.   Very rarely is there ever a real price drop anymore.

Meanwhile, I was able to rebook our January 2022 cruise from Panama to NYC on the Jewel for the same price we had, but now with $600 OBC. 

Not all fares went up to offset the OBC offer.

I feel your pain.  My alaska cruise for May 2nd that was a

canceled begging of April. I checked right away for the same cruise for next year 2021 and the price was double.  And that was with the 125% and 20% off.    
pill just wait till they need travelers and start to offer good prices again 

Maybe?  As like most of use we’re not happy with NCL refund policies.

Not all fares went up to offset the OBC offer.

We were able to rebook our 9 day Baltic cruise for June 2021 for the same price and got $200 OBC for our balcony cabin.

Per person?    It’s currently over $3000 balcony pp.    If you’re not available for last minute-    Supply and demand.    Last minute ( which is what I do)  can be give aways.    But the future is so uncertain what marketing will be??    I’m certainly not relying on any past assumptions.        
 

If you’re happy with me price-  all that matters.

I was also able to re-book my 9/2021 cruise to Bermuda for the same price plus the $600 OBC. All I lost was a specialty dinner - and I think the OBC does a good job at covering that!!

yep my price went up exactly the same amount as the OBC (based on 2 person cabin) when the new "deal" started

This has been normal practice for a very very long time.  The concept of 'sale' in the cruise industry is much like a sale on suggested retail price of a watch, it's the magic of numbers and the closer you watch (like many here do) the more you see past the magic.

 

That said, one can anticipate there may be increased pricing going forward but I wouldn't be looking for it week by week and comparing 'sales'.

This is pretty much all cruises.  If you are willing to take the chance to cruise later this year, you won't be disappointed on price.  

 

NYSE went back to the floor today.  I take that as a very good sign.

Each cruise has its own circumstances.  Some go up....some go down.

Karen, did you notice the substantial reduction (75%) of the solo supplement on the 20 day TA Lisbon to South America cruise (Nov. 29) on the Star a week ago?  I am still trying to figure that one out.  With the 20% discount it is $699 sail away....almost the same price as dual occupancy and the cruise is 6 months away.  Not like NCL....:-)  Wonder what prompted that.

 

Not to "look a gift horse in the mouth" I booked it.  I had wanted to book that cruise for months because it eliminates the massive South America air fare at least one way...:-)

With the drive to lower numbers on the ship, I expect they likely realize they should promote welcoming solo cruisers, really no different than if they need to leave rooms empty.  Pretty smart of them and never underestimate how they think 🙂

It was very predictable. The prices are rising everyday and due to the current demand (which is like super high) there is no reason why these cruise companies wont raise the prices. Moreover, they have to make up for the months they were not operating and its like billions of dollars. So, if you want to travel, get ready to show them your wallet 😁

Do you have any basis for these statements?  Do you have any data?  Do you have any inside knowledge?  Or, are you just a troll?

Here is your data Marc......I made a reservation on the Jade out of Tampa in Feb/2019, and the "fare" only, no taxes etc. was $1869 pp category BA.  Just checked out the same cruise today, and the "fare" is $2319.  The axiom "supply and demand" will always come into play, although NCL has been raising their rates for a very long time.

Just re-book our Feb. 2021 presidents week cruise to a BA for the same amount as last 2 years($3,100.00) Plus $200 on-board cash. We did give up one meal, but got all four offers(never had all four).

 

With the $200 we can get 3 more meals each so, 2+3=5 meals.

 

Seems like a great deal and last year we got the child cruises free deal(somehow got lucky) as that week you don't see it but for a minute I guess(5 rooms, lol).

 

Now a couple months ago it was around $3,700 for the 3 of us with no cash and of course 3 meals each.

 

We are happy!

 

Booked a inside for the first time and it was $2,800.00 with $100 cash offer(months ago). Really didn't want that room, but wanted on that cruise.

 

$300 for inside to BA? You tell me? Would have been lucky to bid at that price and who know were they would have placed us? I like picking my rooms!

Amazing how quickly we went from almost no deaths two months ago to lots of deaths one month ago and now headed back down dramatically.  Brazil's covid outbreak began one month after ours.  And their chart looks just like ours did one month ago.

I have booked this cruise as well.  But also want the following cruise.  It’s not an ideal ship for me with all the sea days   Yes the rate is cheap.

Yes, I am hoping to stay on for the round the horn trip.  But, being a gambler on cruises I will do what I always do.....wait and book on board once the cancellations start right before sail date.  Good thing about this one is that since it is costly and difficult for Americans to book at the end we on boarders have the advantage...:-)

Thanks for the heads up Corliss. I just put this cruise on hold. I need to see if I can get a CAS discount. Meanwhile, I would like to know how is the casino there. I have never been on the Star.
