Regal, Grand and Sea Princess to remain?

It just makes no sense to me that Grand wouldn't be on the list of ships to scrap.  Her sisters Star and Golden are more desirable due to having retained Skywalkers, the thermal suite on Star, and they are both newer.  So why would Grand be kept?  She has no advantages over those ships.

Regal, on the other hand -- it makes absolutely no sense that she would be released from the fleet.

I doubt that Pacific will be released.  Many love that small ship and her special itineraries, which sell out easily even at a greater price per day.

There's no chance that the Regal is going anywhere! It's a brand new ship.

Sea Princess is certainly fit for the bin, as is the Grand Princess. I could never understand why they got rid of Golden & Star Princess, but kept the Grand. It's had it's day and I would never sail on it again.

Updated list

Previously sold

Costa neoClassica sold to Bahamas Paradise

Costa neoRiviera sold to AIDA (group Co.)

Costa Atlantica - sold to Carnival-China JV

Costa Mediterranea - sold to Carnival-China JV

P&O Aus Pacific Aria - sold to CMV, early departure

P&O Aus Pacific Dawn-sold to CMV, early departure

Confirmed

Costa Victoria - sold for scrap

P&O Oceana sold to Greek buyer-Chinese interests

HAL Maasdam

HAL Veendam

HAL Rotterdam sold to Fred Olsen

HAL Amsterdam sold to Fred Olsen

Costa neoRomantica - sold to Celestyal Cruises

Golden Princess - internal transfer to P&O Australia

Star Princess - internal transfer to P&O Australia

Very Likely

Carnival Fascination - sold for scrap

Carnival Inspiration - sold for scrap

Carnival Elation - sold for scrap

Carnival Imagination - sold for scrap

Carnival Ecstasy - sold for scrap

Carnival Fantasy- sold for scrap

They won’t scrap the entire Fantasy class, Arnold said they are still popular and still money makers, of course it’s a matter of opinion. Fantasy and Inspiration are basically confirmed, Ecstasy is retuning to Freeport, Imagination is still holding on the other side of the canal, Fascination is heading to Cadiz so that’s an interesting one.

But all 13 ships were accounted for if you count Atlantica, Mediterranea, Aria and Dawn in the mix, if they aren’t counted then I’d imagine Princess will lose most likely Sun and Pacific though I do suspect they will save and sell Pacific to Oceania/Azamara once cruising resumes. Though if cruising doesn’t resume soon then more will be sold.

I am curious to hear the justification for why Grand would remain in the fleet?  She, while lovely like all Princess ships, is definitely long in the tooth.

We sailed on the Grand in 2010 on the "Circle Caribbean" itinerary.  Great itinerary, but ship was oldest and smallest Princess ship we were on.  I won't miss it.

As of now here's what CCL has gotten rid of or looks like they are on the way out:

1. Carnival Fantasy (scrap)

2. Carnival Inspiration (scrap)

3. HAL - Maasdam (?)

4. HAL - Veendam (?)

5. HAL - Amsterdam (going to Fred Olsen)

6. HAL - Rotterdam (also going to Fred)

7. Costa -NeoRomantica (sold to Celestal Cruises)

8. Costa - Mediteranea (transferring to CSSC May 2021)

9. Costa - Atlantica (transfered to CSSC Jan 2020)

10. Costa - Victoria (scrap)

11. P&O - Oceana(?)

Princess - Golden (transferring to P&O- Aus 2020)

Princess - Star (transerring to P&O - Aus 2021)

12. P&O - Aus - Pacific Aria (sold)

13. P&O-Aus  - Pacific Dawn (sold)

If you remove the transfers, there are still 4 more ships to go.  My thoughts:

Princess - Pacific

CCL - 2 more Fantasy Class

6 more to go from corporate!

What does: Costa - Mediteranea (transferring to CSSC May 2021) & Costa - Atlantica (transfered to CSSC Jan 2020) mean? Are these still part of the CCL fleet? Are 8 or 6 slated to go?

2 Costa ships are transferred to China shipping Corporation, a joint venture with Carnival.

With the news about Maritime going under, the two P&O - Aus ships either need new buyers or are headed to the breakers :(.  My hopes for the Sun and Sea are becoming less and less,  and the Pacific which I never go to sail.  Not only will we have fewer ships but those "finge" cruiselines will be gone.  Hope Fred Olsen hangs on (although looks like they are).

It could be that P&O did not want the Grand. When transferring or selling a ship, the recipient must want it.
