GRANDEUR OF THE SEAS FUTURE?

Recommended Posts

Yes, but doesn’t know where Grandeur is going. Royal has new bookings on Enchantment out of Baltimore, so I doubt if she stays there. Maybe Cuba will open again someday, possibly Miami runs, but really nobody knows at this point.

Well, her final cruise out of Baltimore now unless they put her back there.  I think most who booked her "last" cruse are huge GR fans so they'll be fine. I know we love that ship and cruising out of Baltimore.  We've been on GR 7 times.   I could see GR going out of several different places, maybe Galveston or NJ for Bermuda runs, or even FL for Bahamas.  Possibly Norfolk a few times a year (not perm).  We'll know soon enough since they have confirmed it so they should be booking her soon.

Nice to hear that she's staying for now. Hopefully we can get a few more years out of the Vision Class. I doubt any of them will be there in 2030 but it would be nice for Grandeur to make it to her 30th birthday before she goes. If they want to sell a ship for money, I'd probably say Majesty. Empress plays a fairly important role in the fleet as she can go places that the others can't and some of the Vision Class are still quite popular.

I wonder where she is going. She could stay in Baltimore and EN could go elsewhere. Probably depends on the bookings since EN has more capacity.

My guess would be one extra ship (either GR or EN) in Europe or possibly over to California since Wonder got delayed meaning that Voyager has to spend 1 more year in Asia.

Thought Voyager was scheduled to sail from California in summer of 2021.  Why would she have to spend one more year in Asia?

Not really.  Love Grandeur and for me, at least, my March trips will be free casino trips.  Hope they sail.   The notice posted said that Grandeur will stay in Baltimore.  Hope so.  Katherine

It's written in the quote. Wonder got delayed, so Voyager may stay to cover her season. The CA thing was just a rumor, I thought

This is the news I was hoping to hear.:classic_biggrin:  When I heard about the demise of Pullmantur, I thought and prayed that it might mean a chance for Lady G to remain in the fleet.  Would be very happy if she returned to Baltimore when Enchantment's current bookings are done, after April 2022.  I've been on Grandeur 23 times and considered her my home away from home.  I want the chance to go home again!😉

The original plan (speculations) in summer 2021 would be

Shanghai, China: WONDER

Tianjin, China: SPECTRUM

California: VOYAGER

With the delay of Wonder, the confirmed deployment becomes
Shanghai, China: SPECTRUM
Tianjin, China: VOYAGER

California: /

Maybe at this point change the Enchantment bookings to Grandeur? I don’t really care either way as long as there is a ship out of Baltimore.  I love the fact that sailing out of Baltimore means more sea days!!  Katherine

No, it said it will sail from Baltimore for now but future itineraries were to be determined.

The actual statement reads :Right now, the ship will sail out of Baltimore once cruises resume. Royal Caribbean will announce future itineraries for the ship at a later date.

IMO, there is enough demand in Baltimore to support two Vision class ships, especially in the spring thru fall.  One could do CA/NE, Bermuda (spring, summer, fall) and the other Bahamas, Caribbean (year round) or mix it up between the two.

We could have a "senior" passenger ship (GR) and a "middle age" passenger ship (EN).  😄

Demand isn't the issue so much as parking is.  The two lots that are there (one used by Carnival) are always over 75-80% full so where would they park cars for another ship?  We've even seen the lots almost 100% full.

That would be somewhat hard to do.  Enchantment was cut in half and extended, they added more rooms to Enchantment vs the Grandeur.  There are some larger interior rooms that were added.

Build a 2nd deck for parking.  🙂

I'm sure they could find an off-site location for parking.

One of the great things about Baltimore's port is how close everything is. I don't think you  know that area where the port is located.  There's really nowhere to build an off-site lot that would work not to mention transportation, etc  It's a pretty densely built up area.  And as for a second deck, it would require tearing up the lots and rebuilding the entire thing.    I know people want the ship in Baltimore but don't hold your breath for an additional ship there.   MD has made it pretty clear they're  not interested in putting more money into cruising or they would be looking to build a new cruise port south of the bridges/Annapolis for larger ships.

I live in bucks County, PA and will definitely have to give that train ride a try someday soon.     Sounds nice.   I had a good friend who moved to key west and she used this same train to load up her car and some other belongings for a small fee.    she thought it was so much better than driving a u-haul by herself.

You'll enjoy it because you'll be relaxed and fresh.  I always head south two days in advance of sailing.  Pricing is based upon the time of year:  for the Fall (October to November), it is more expensive to  head south; in the Spring (March to April), it is more expensive to head north.

I've sailed from Locust Point seven times on Grandeur and two times on Celebrity Mercury but never really looked around the port area.

I wonder if the old terminal at Dundalk is still usable/available?  Sailed from there on Celebrity Horizon, Celebrity Galaxy, and Norwegian Crown.

Sorry.  Bad assumption on my part.  Assumed it meant new itineraries from Baltimore.  Time will tell.  😀

I read that as only if cruising resumes before her previously scheduled departure

You ought to see the new garage for Carnival in PC. It's almost twice the size or the one built for Royal.

6 stories, 1800 car capacity

They have since deployed Voyager to Asia even though they did have port bookings at Hawaii and on the west coast.

They still hold a booking at Astoria Oregon for June 2021 for Voyager that they booked just in March of this year. But it would seem that will be cancelled as well.
