An extra cost item: the Behind the Scenes Tour. I have learned so much with all of those tours that I have done. Maybe the most unique one was aboard Carnival Miracle. When we disembarked, she was headed for drydock. Going below decks and seeing the preparations being made for that drydocking was quite interesting. As someone else said, shuffleboard. Plus a great breakfast! - Windstar did poached eggs breakfast about 7 different ways! SOOO Good out on deck! But we have also done these Being the Scenes Tours with Princess, Paul Gaugin (back when Regent was leasing the ship), and NCL. On NCL, we were on the EPIC. At one point we were at the back of the ship and near the bottom of the ship. I heard this loud "WHOMP, WHOMP, WHOMP" noise and asked the tour guide what that was. Without a blink, she said "it's the propellor." HOLLY CRAP! I suddenly thought of the movie Titanic and wanted to get out of there. Looking back, it would make sense that it would be heard, but I just wasn't prepared for that and I'm sure they get very used to that sound.

Anyway I should stop high jacking the thread. Back to cruising 😉

My Nutritionist does not believe that peanut butter is something that I should eat.She prefers the other butters. Mrs Ldubs, who looks after my healthy diet, says PB is OK, but the other ones are preferred. We've also had jars of "nut butters" that say refrigerate -- Google will explain it has to do with the prep process.

SteveH2508 Posted September 15, 2020 #87 Share Posted September 15, 2020 There has just been a programme on Brit TV about 'why does peanut butter have such a long shelf life'. It is due to the lack of water and high oil content. PB has a free water reading of 20%; (crisps (potato chips in US) have a free water of 30%; jam (jelly in US) has free water of about 80%. The more free water the more that mould, bacteria etc. will grow. Preppers recommend PB as a staple supply for the zombie apocalypse.

shipgeeks Posted September 20, 2020 #89 Share Posted September 20, 2020 On Grandeur, we've had guest teachers who led Belly Dance classes and Tai Chi sessions. One time, during Tai Chi, the leader's calm, serene voice was loudly interrupted by what might have been the script of a porn movie (not that any of us would know). Luckily, one of the tech crew was able to rush over and undo the mic, and eventually get it on the right track again. Perhaps matinee time on a passing freighter? I think it was the most "unusual" tai chi session most of us will ever experience. 1
gooch47 Posted October 10, 2020 #90 Share Posted October 10, 2020 Not exactly an activity, but we took an Amazon River Cruise on the old, small Royal Princess. The dining room was low on the ship and while you were eating you could hear these loud thumps. Our waited told us it was the ship hitting logs in the river. It was my second on her and remains a favorite memory of mine. Both the ship, the ports, and the views of the land/river and the sky as we sailed along the Amazon: unique. Rare Tapi Posted October 11, 2020 #92 Share Posted October 11, 2020 Haven’t done it in years, but I’d figure out where the top/Royal suite on the ship was located, and on the morning of disembarkation after everybody had vacated their staterooms, I’d head there and see if I could take a quick peek if the door was open. Just wanted to get a glimpse of what I couldn’t afford.

Just wanted to get a glimpse of what I couldn’t afford. I have done the same. Sometimes, CC Roll Call groups organize "cabin crawls" for those who are part of our group. One such group included two ladies who occupied a Pinnacle Suite on a Vista or Signature Class HAL ship. Sitting room, bedroom, dining room, spacious bath, a dressing room, huge veranda with a hot tub: if I had booked such an accommodation, I would have spent too much time during my cruise thinking: "where should I sit now? what amenity should I now use? what drawers/cabinets ought I use? Etc." Really, a lovely accommodation for those who want that. It's just not for me. I never did figure out how to effectively use my Yacht Club Butler on MSC Meraviglia in January. I know that I left much of his "services on the table". But, I didn't need anymore than what I received. The cruise where I was able to book a Neptune Suite left me with the same feeling. Surely enjoyed the experience! Given the opportunity to do so again? Yes! But, it's not me. When I return home, my "Butler" and my "Neptune Lounge Concierge" is still me.

One of the great services that CC provides are the Roll Calls that allow for such cabin crawls to take place. The M&G sessions are more often than not very pleasant and sometimes leads to others or, at least, other meetings with the participants at the M&G. One repeated issue that I experience with M&G is "who the heck are you"? Nice to know that your name is "Mortimer" or "Cassandra". But, what is your CC name?

My best story about meeting a CC person on the M&G .I have posted this previously.I became very friendly on the roll call with a guy from Rhode Island. We made up to meet the day of boarding the ship.He described himself as tall and thin and told me exactly what he would be wearing.I saw a guy on the ship fitting that description, walked over to him and said “Ray ,great to finally meet you.” It was not him.We had a lot of laughs on the ship, met for lunch several times as well as dinners.
