The ship will be making its required stop in  Victoria BC, Canada on the last full day of the cruise from 5:30 P.M to midnight... Their famous gardens are closed then..

Other than going to dinner, is there any reason to get off the ship at that hour?

With such a short visit,  Butchart Gardens is too far from the cruise terminal anyway .

Grab a cab ( it's a long walk ) to the area where the BC Legislature is-- there you can see the Harbor, the Empress Hotel ( a landmark ) and walk around the downtown --- it's a safe area with lots of tourists.

I have read that the gardens are open late to accommodate cruise passengers.  I'm not sure if you would have to book the tour through the ship for the late entry.  It takes about 35 - 45 mins to get there.  You don't say which month but in summer it doesn't get dark here till about 9:15PM.

Very few ships get into Victoria early, and even when they do, it's hard to see the gardens because the early ships have to make way for the late ones. There just isn't enough time to see the whole gardens, maybe just a little bit.

We docked at the same pier and we had time to go to the Butterfly Gardens and then to Butchart Gardens.  It was open past 9 pm when we were there.  We really enjoyed our visit.  Spectacular!  Took the cruise line tour. There was live music at the floral Gardens for us to enjoy.

We did the gardens on a late arrival one year.  It was really lovely to see them in the twilight and as the sun went down.  You don't get the full experience as some parts start to close as the sky dims, but it was beautiful anyway.  We did a ship's tour that time just in case.
